You bring back a lot of awesome memories for me Zach. I appreciate you posting and taking time to do your videos. When I was about 12 years old, my dad had a 48 Willis Jeep. He kept it out at the rig so he could go check the water well with it every day. My brother and I put about a million miles on that thing in the deserts of southeastern New Mexico. We drove the wheels off that thing but it never broke down or never left us stranded. We had so much fun with that thing hunting fishing. Chasing rabbits, antelopes, deer. What a blast!

Great video Zach. With points, it's best to find a set that has a phenolic rubbing block. The cheapo replacement sets use nylon and they wear out insanely fast. Also make sure to smear a little grease on the rubbing block every few thousand miles. I like that Jeep, looks like a blast to bomb down the trails in!

Watching you do a gear box rebuild in high speed reminds me of a story I once hear. A bloke had to rebuild the rear diff in his Land Rover. He was so excited to finally have all the part and the time to complete the job. He threw it together, and couldn't wait to take it for a test drive. Problem was he didn't get far and had to do the entire job all over again, because he forgot to fill the diff with oil.

As soon as I saw that glass, I knew it wouldn't survive the installation with you. I'm amazed at everything you do but finesse is not your strong suit. It's incredible to me how you take things apart and get them back together. You must have an incredible memory.
Thanks for another great video, Zach!

A friend in high school had a '45 Willys with 5:38 gears and a Warn overdrive, which gave it a top speed of almost exactly what you had after the gear swap.
By modern standards, those old jeeps are definitely underpowered. They are still fun and capable off-road vehicles. It's just going to do everything slower than what we are all used to. 🤷‍♂️
That brought back a lot of memories. I can even smell that Jeep. Thanks, Zach! 🤠

Snap-On used to sell the same self-powered dwell meter. Good stuff. I've had CJ5 and CJ7 jeeps, loved them. l laughed too when I heard you laugh as the jeep made it to 55mph.
Kinda late now but I have a suggestion. A while ago you had a custom gear made for a pump jack but the hole was a few thousandths too big for the shaft. Instead of building the shaft up with steel use bronze rods and braze it. I've done this for shafts in old tractor gear boxes, also building up broken gear teeth and worn hydraulic pumps. Never fails.
I've learned a lot from watching your videos and enjoyed every minute. The transformer repair job puckered me up a little. I'm a retired power electronics engineer... survival instincts kicked in. Thank you for making these videos!

Love your videos. I’m old, but, as a rule, I don’t yet talk to my TV. However, this video had me screaming “It’s the coil!” ‘It’s the coil”. I’ve had it happen multiple times with the same symptom - several times with new coils. New parts does not equal working parts. More and more parts are made as cheaply as possible, by no name manufacturers in China, but sold under familiar brand names in the US. It’s getting impossible to buy quality aftermarket parts.

Zach - Put you some lube on the rubbing block on those points. The points you removed were Blue Streak points which featured a little felt pad which you'd put a couple drops of oil on it every oil change or so... That would keep from wearing the rubbing block on the points and wrecking the distributor cam. Also - Under the rotor should be a pad which can be lubed with a little 3 in 1 or Marvel to keep the mechanical advance from binding up.
Another 'hack'... With the plugs out, use a starter button and crank the thing with the key on and you can set the dwell easily.
      Good luck!

12:00 ateel on steel without a bearing in a transfer case is not uncommon. The drive sprocket for new process chain type cases are steel on steel with the main shaft. I'm sure other makes/models are similar. I put together a 263xhd last weekend. The bearing surfaces of the sprocket and main shaft were a little chewy. I should have replaced those parts but the truck has 450k miles. For what it's got to do it will live.
