    I remember Claudine Longet. Always thought she got away with murder. Never believed her story and still don't. Still believe she murdered him in a jealous rage. He was trying to dump her, was getting ready to go to a party without her and she shot him. It seemed so unjust. You shouldn't be allowed to get away with murdering your boyfriend just because he wants you gone. Friends with the Kennedys, Andy Williams ex wife, celebrity - just a delicate freakin' flower. Sorry, seems I'm still annoyed after all these years. Don't remember the other two.

      Yeah, “son of Sam laws” should be enforced. Some states don’t allow criminals to give interviews after they’re sentenced & not to do paid interviews. Even selling their stories or biographies is a not allowed or if it is, the profits should go to the victims and family of victims. It’s frustrating that criminals seem to have more rights than their victims. I’m talking about horrible murdering psychopaths not folks in prison for lesser crimes like non violent drug offenses.

      Our neighbor a few years back was the mother of Louise Chartrand, his final victim. Had Olson been arrested when the officers working the case wanted, she would not have been killed by him.

      You have to see both, the release and the handsomeness under the viewpoint of the 70s... He is the Ted Bundy type, clean cut, charming and manipulative. And of course, the serial killer phenomenon was not as known and established worldwide as it is now. There was also a wave at that time about jail being a way of rehabilitation and not justice. You add up all of it and you can start to understand the case at that time frame.

      As I wrote in another comment, you have to put it in the perspective of the time spirit: jail was thought as means to rehabilitation, the idea of serial killers or serial rapist was not yet really understood and crime was thought to be a reaction to hardship and wrong education in the formative years (and it is probably so, when we are not talking psychopaths or sociopaths like this one, some other persons got paroled or pardoned in Europe in similar circumstances and they followed up a honest life afterwards)

      It's awful, the arena he was provided trough his release could have aided him in his sinister deeds. Streetworkers have often drugabuse and/or other social problems and typically do not follow news as regularly as Mr Smith who glance trough the morningpaper while having breakfast before work and watch the nine o'clock news before going to bed in the evening. He probably got acess to some of his victims by presentinghimself as a journalist working on a piece of social issues but his victims being unaware of the other nasty truth about his background.
      One can easily see it that a "gifted person" who are prone to severely violent unprovoced acts is typically more dangerous and thus a stronger argument to have them behind bars.

      @ReturnoftheBrotha that's literally not how it works. Not guilty means 'not proven guilty', it doesn't mean innocent, it is up to the prosecution to prove someone guilty, ie. Prove beyond reasonable doubt that someone is guilty. Cochrane managed, cleverly, to create enough doubt in the jury that OJ got off, but looking at the DNA forensics, as well as other evidence, should have been enough, but it was a new technology misunderstood by many people and was not utilised properly.

    • @KatTheScribe
      @KatTheScribe 4 года назад

      Tragic miscarriage of justice. On another note, if he had been poor and not famous, he would be on death row. Poor black people get convicted on the flimsiest of evidence.
      DA did not take their time and build a proper case. They rushed because they were in the spotlight. The jury had no choice, as he was not proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Even with the lab errors, if they had taken the time to do a proper investigation they would have had a better case. Tons of evidence never even made it to court. So damn obvious to me, that violent wife-beater did it but... I would rather he be found not guilty, than to be found guilty with a flimsy case that wouldn't stand up to proper scrutiny. The system is there, ideally, to protect us against conviction based on weak evidence. Too many times it doesn't work, I know, but sadly this time it did as the prosecution did not make their case.

    • @KatTheScribe
      @KatTheScribe 4 года назад +1

      @ReturnoftheBrotha Hi there, actually 'Innocent" is a plea, not a verdict. The verdict of Not Guilty simply means the prosecution did not prove its case to the jury. Sometimes a jury will feel the defendant committed the crime, however they still come to the verdict of Not Guilty simply because of the lack of evidence presented at trial. Plenty of folks have been found Not Guilty, only to confess later on as they know they will not be subject to an other trial - which would be Double Jeopardy. I think CL has some videos of cases where that happened. But - they could be retried for a lesser or different charge. That has happened as well, especially when more evidence comes to light after a trial has concluded.

    Old Claudine Longet. She got away with murder, thanks to the Aspen police screwing up. Poor Spider Sabich never had a chance. I can't believe it has been 44 years since that happened. Somehow her second husband, Ron Austin, her lawyer in the case, is still alive years later. The Longet case was a huge case at the time, one of the most sensational murder cases in American history. The sad thing is while Sabich's parents each lived to an old age, all three of their children died relatively young. Spider's brother and sister both died of cancer.
    For more details about this case, you can find an old episode of "Dominick Dunne's Power, Privilege & Justice" titled "The Starlet and the Skier." There are uploads of it on RUclips.

    This may not be a very PC thing to say, but the officer who arrested Don King may have pulled his punches too much. When DK beats a man to death, gets ordered AT GUNPOINT to put down his weapon and step away, and then kicks the victim anyway, that may very well be a justifiable occasion for use of force by the police.

      Also, regarding the reference to the Hotel Cecil in the Unterweger case: while the Elisa lam and Richard Ramirez stories are true, the connection to the Elizabeth Short/Black Dahlia case has been conclusively debunked. This was a mistaken report put about at the time of Lam's death in 2010, as an effort to whip up more mystique around the controversial site.
