I like the fact that you used a 'used' pool, so you've obviously been able to set it up and tear it down for several seasons. Nice tips with the pins and the better pump.
Great job!!! I sure do appreciate people like you that can help. Thank you Sooo much! And I'm probably not the only one getting excited about putting mine up!!! Woohoo!
For crystal clear pools. Sand works great but a DE filter or perlite works and filters better. Only difference most de filters you have to keep your pumps running.
My pool is smaller than that one however I found your video really helpful since I got it due the fact I did follow step by step all your instructions, thanks
We have the 12' x 30" model. Setup wasn't too bad, but I unfortunately didn't get all the wrinkles out of the bottom before completely filling the pool. Oh well, if we drain it down for winter I'll smooth it out for next year.
I am watching this video because I am thinking about investing in an above ground pool. For some reason the little boy made me laugh. Good informative video. The little boy made me laugh.
Very nicely done. A suggestion or two about your sand filter. First off you don't have to replace the sand every year. You can get by every three years. You should also be lubricating the seals on the filter every year as they are prone to dry rot. We are still in the process of learning everything the hard way as the home we just bought had an old 'Gunite' aka, plaster, pool in the yard which we spent the $$8,000.00 needed to replaster and fix the damage from years of neglect (Coleman pools really do stand the test of time!). We learned a lot about the filter and this year have gone from using sand to using glass. The glass medium is a little lighter than the sand medium but if you think you get good filtration with the sand, try the glass medium. It is a little more expensive but really worth it. Just curious, is it required that you take an Intex pool down each season and put it up again the next? Is there no way to winterize the pool so that all you have to do is take off the cover and hook-up your filter again? Seems lke an awful lot of bother when it is so simple to winterize a pool for the next season. Thank you so much for sharing this. My brother has young kids and has been thinking of getting a pool for them and I am going to send your video to him as soon as I am done here. He's a great computer programmer but whenit comes to being handy around the house........LOL! God Bless and thank you for an awesome video, Margie
I have an intex pool nothing wrong with it we had it for years now and it’s still great is got a small hole in it so we put punctures on it now it’s fine and great
Hi what on the bottom of the pool before you when you put that tarp down why didn't you add two or three layers of sand been the pool so it wouldn't poke holes through with stone and you wouldn't tear the liner I'm just wondering why that you didn't do that
Thank you Amazon and thank you dude!!! Sand pump yeah. But I see you live in a very grassy woody area and I live in the high Desert so my idea of a sand pump is totally different! Continue watching I will
Setting up the pool is easy (once you get the ground leveled.) But even a small pool is going to require maintenance to keep you water nice and clear and prevent the growth of algae. Plan on spending 15-30 minutes a day and a few hundred dollars on chemicals and filters. I have a 14'x36" round that's now in its 4th season. Living in NC Indiana pool usage is generally late May to early September. Over the past 3 years I've upgraded with a sand filter, salt water chlorine generator and solar heating panels. Each year up to this one I've had serious water problem (last year d/t a defective (cheap) algaecide which made the water soapy) so this year I've bought all my chemicals from a reputable pool dealer/supply place. It's a wonderful investment, but it's not as easy to maintain as these people make it look. Setup and filling the pool is just step 1 of about 20.
I don't know what your doing but I've got one and it has sand filter & salt system all I do is put my salt in and I don't do anything else except vaccum once every 2 weeks and it stays crystal clear all season may to October never had a problem knock on wood
Yes. I put about a half gallon of chlorine in each week (it's the cheap, diluted stuff). Luckily, I don't seem to ever have any problems with the pH or alkalinity, so I don't use chemicals for those. Beyond that, you just need to backwash the sand filter whenever the water flow becomes less.
Thadivs thank you. Going to start with the basic filter it came with and just drop like 3-4 choline tabs in between filter and see how that goes. Apparently every 3 days or so I’m suppose to add 6 tablets (1inch) Then maybe this July I’ll get a sand filter. Appreciate your time and reply. Thanks
I've read through every comment so as to not be redundant, but my question is what purposes does laying sand over the bottom tarp serve? Is it just for leveling or for protection as well, comfort, etc.? You chose not to lay sand and I've been told to definitely use it. I'm setting up tomorrow and I'm confused. Please help. Thanks so much.
My soil is free of rocks and whatever may puncture the pool vinyl. That's why I only use the tarp. But sand is better for leveling and making sure there won't be anything sharp to damage the pool. As far as comfort goes, it's been my experience that no matter what is under the bottom of the pool, it will always end up feeling as firm as concrete once the full amount of water is in the pool.
So now the debate is whether to use masonry mortar sand or cushion sand? Ugh. The sand supply guy swears I shouldn't use the masonry mortar. Any input, please?
Cool video. I hear the most difficult part of installing one of these above ground pools is getting the ground level. I didn't see you explain or demonstrate how you made sure your pool was level. That would have been very interesting to me. Either way, seems like you have your system down and it works. Congrats!
Looks to me like he just had a level spot in the yard. That's how it worked for our 12x30" pool. I had a spot next to my patio that was level across the 12 foot area, within about 1 inch or so. One side of my pool is about one inch or less, higher than the other side, which is fine. I also cut the grass down to the dirt with my lawn tractor, then put down a thin layer of sand, and then plastic over that, and then the pool on top.
There are plenty of videos out there on how to level the ground. I don't suggest just simply throwing a tarp on top of the grass unless you have a perfectly level area and installing a very small Intex pool.
Hi. Great video. So this looks like the 15x48 model. They don't seem to make a 15x36 or a 12x36. I was hoping someone coud tell me about what the minimum you can fill it would be but still allow the filter hoses to be covered? I would like to only fill it about 36 inches if possible.
This video is amazing - thank you!!! You referenced a vacuum, which I haven't had luck finding for this type of pool. Could you share the vacuum you got for it? Thanks so much!
Sand is the most effective small pool filter. The other commonly available are paper cartridges that have to be replaced pretty much weekly; they cost about $10 for a couple of them. The sand itself is in a tank and the water is pumped over and through the sand, removing both visible and invisible impurities and debris. There's a pre-filter unit to catch leaves, "helicopters" and bigger debris. A small bit of sand might make its way into the pool; it can be vacuumed out.
What are the recommended number of hours to run my filter pump? I cannot find it in the Ower's Manual. I have the Krystal Clear Model 637R Filter Pump.
I don't know the recommended amount of time, but I run mine 12 hours per day. 6am to 6pm in order to stir up the water while the solar cover is catching some solar heat. Doing this, I've noticed that the water tends to stay very clear and I only add about a quart of liquid chlorine (bleach), once per week.
About 4-6 hours a day, but it depends on the size of the pool. I've found that most pumps included in the pool sets are too damn small to be effective. I have a sand filter myself, and run the filter 4 hours for a 14x36 round pool then recirculate the water for the rest of the day. This gentleman is right: Invest in a good sand filter (about $125-200; sand is dirt cheap, no pun intended.)

I don't suggest just simply throwing a tarp on top of the grass unless you have a perfectly level area and installing a very small Intex pool.
