I also even thought they were going to be having concepts like each member represent a certain planet or their each comeback represents a certain planet or space related things like how you said mvsk could be moon and up would be sun. I think if they went with planet concepts, I think that would make the group more interesting with a solid storyline. So sad the girls are experiencing this, I have supported them since gp999 only to see them going downhill.

especially after boys planet and the debut of zerobaseone, its so obvious that kep1er was just wakeones and mnets test group to see if they could still have a successful survival show after the voting manipulation scandals. its clear just from debut that wakeone has such stronger creative visions for zerobaseone. the teasers and mv looked more quality and better edited, and they debuted with 6 original songs and no boys planet remakes on the album. in bloom also seems to have better production quality than wadada, the producers even sampled 90s hit take on me. i feel bad for kep1er, at least they got a better name than zerobaseone because i still don't understand why mnet chose THAT out of all the fan options

I never really followed Kep1er, so I’m surprised to find out here that they’re still trying to keep it all Korean. I just don’t understand why Mnet is so adamant on keeping as few foreign members in as possible - you’d think if more people are voting for a member, they would get more album sales from that member being so popular to the viewer base. Like they’d literally be getting so much more money.

i understand where you're coming from but you can't tell me that any rookie group (ive, nmixx, lesserafim, nwjsn) couldve done what kep1 did 1 months after debut. they performed so well, and the seniors said it themselves, that they don't act like rookies. they had a lot of hickups on they way, dayeon falling off the stage, yujin slipping around during pool party, chaehyun being injured and just all members not being well, but they handled it like pros and did perform exceptionally well on each stage. not a single stage that they performed was a let down on kep1er's behalf. kep1er have 9 incredibly talented performers who could perform so well next to some groups that have been together for years. they are a group of all rounders. every dancer in that group could easily be a main dancer in another group and chaehyun + youngeuns vocals are amazing. they have one of the best rap line's in 4th gen. So as much as i get where you're coming from, they did much better than a lot of groups would've done

For me, they just seem so... unbalanced? They lack chemistry and cohesiveness, like some of the members feels out of place sometimes.
Also the fandom has cracks everywhere and is in a civil war all the time.
Chaehyun as a center, well, no hate to the girl, but she just doesn't have that "shine" factor. Comparing her to Somi and Wony, she just doesn't stand out imo. Xiaoting had that "shine" factor but she's not Korean so that would be hard and complicated.
Their songs just also doesn't hit right. Wa Da Da was fine enough for a debut, but i would have loved a heavily vocal song. I hate the fact that their title tracks barely has any real singing lines and instead has adlibs, chanting, and speaking lines. And that factor contributed to the "favoritism" and "unfair" treatment Kep1ians has been fighting over since their debut.
People had really high hopes for them as they were the next girl group after IZ*ONE. But they clearly never met those expectations and thus it is how it is now. The girls had potential to be a top girl group, but it seems like they were never the favored one.

Iz*one really set the bar high up as being products of survival shows. The members are still very popular even after they disbanded. The timing of the debut of Kep1er happened when former members of Iz*one were also debuting in a new group. Wake One should have focused on the branding of the musicality of Kep1er since debut so that that the general population can maintain their hype on the group. Unfortunately, they failed in doing so. For almost a year left in their contract, until then they will continue to live under the shadows of IVE, LE SSERAFIM, etc. who debuted with them at the same time. Their management should have asked themselves this question, "Why should the general support a temporary group as compared to a permanent group?"

let'a be real kep1er although had a lot of hype initially it was all based on international fans, koreans didn't watch GP 999 ... after the produce series scandal i don't think south korea was ever going to support the first group to come out of another MNET survival show ... same is happening with i-land season 2 on MNET right now and the last two queendom competitions shows also made very little impact domestically in terms of TV ratings and interests domestically in south korea
and i've always felt KPOP internationals fans are some of the biggest bandwagon music fans in general across all genres so if they don't think a certain group will be popular 90% of these "fans" will choose another group to follow that they deem to be the next big thing ... we're talking about high school level popularity stuff here imo
i mean there is a reason why there is a term called "big 3" or even "big 4" company priveges and although being from an MNET survival show group used to have some benefits and it still does, you're not going to get any support domestically in south korea after that produce scandal which was only a few years old
i mean we've seen past KPOP groups get blackballed from south korea after "minor" controversies or scandals ... now imagine coming off the biggest music scandal in the history of that country and that dark cloud was always going to be around kep1er as a group in their tenure domestically
imo to be a top tier KPOP group especially a girl group you need domestic support from koreans as even though KPOP has grown a ton over the years koreans still make up the majority of each group's fandom
kep1er again wasn't going to get that support that previous MNET groups got no matter if they had a more cohesive concept or released general public friendly songs
i mean if you look at japan where kep1er has their biggest fandom they've done very well including going back to when 5 million watched the GP 999 finale in oct 2021 ... KPOP fans in that country didn't care about the produce scandal in return have given their support behind kep1er as south koreas did with previous MNET survival show groups .... 4 songs that have charted in the top 10, 220k albums sold just for their japanese releases, and nearly 160k attendees over the last 2.5 years worth of concerts and fan meets ... now kep1er still i wouldn't say is in the top tier A level of favorite KPOP girl groups in japan but i'd say their on that tier B
i mean KPOP company "stans" are a thing in this genre as i truly believe if a small or mid tier group released some of the most popular songs over the last few years the song nor the group would get as much as the support from KPOP fans in general and in return if some imo good KPOP songs fromm these same small to mid tier groups would be released by a group from one of the top companies they'd be big hits ... that's the thing that sucks about KPOP as a whole as talent and imo even song quality isn't the determining factor in whether or not you're popular it's company size that determines your popularity as a group and that's why most outside the KPOP bubble don't take the genre all that seriously because of this
i think kep1er likely was always destined to be a mid tier group like loona or dreamcatcher ... good support from international fans but very little backing in south korea

I still remember many of the Chinese contestants (and Yurina) while not remembering many of the ones who actually debuted
the Chinese girls and Yurina really dodged a bullet... and I'm sorry for Xiaoting for getting herself into this messy group
after all the evil editing and favoritism of the show (*cough* Dayeon *cough*), even after revealing their name Kepler, which let's be real it's terrible, I thought to give them a chance and check out their debut song... it was mid and boring to say the least (that's why I even forgot about them as a whole until recently)

Each comeback song is even more childish than the last, but it's a pity that even at the age of 12 or 13, are not buying into it. The previous comeback song, 'We Fresh,' was just plain embarrassing with the way they clumsily pretended to play the guitar in the dance.

The success of a Kpop group, I believe, doesn't rely solely on their music (or wha you called sound), but with also with timely buzz and constant hyping. Both I.O.I and IZ*ONE did that by sending their members to individual gigs and variety shows.Queendom 2 is not enough coz that show failed in comparison to the Queendom 1.
And additionally, a two or three "popular" members play a significant role in the groups success or failure. I.O.I has the trinity Somi, Sejeong and Yoojung, while IZ*ONE got the center-rivalry duo of Wonyoung and Sakura with the wacky Yena. For Kep1er, their most popular member could not even enter the top 30 of Monthly Brand Ranking. The relevant girl groups always has a representative member in this Ranking ever since its establishment.

Everything about the concept felt half baked. The name Kepler, and what concept they are trying to pull? With name like that, I thought they want to do something like WSJN. But well of course, there are many groups with "galaxy" theme already.

In my opinion WA DA DA was actually a much better debut song than MVSK, and it is a more easily accessible song as well. It’s like a big room type song that is still popish.
MVSK meanwhile, is a very busy song, with many different breaks, melodies and changes in the song. For general appeal, this is not good.
Besides that, WA DA DA gave Kep1er their own sound too. Most people here in Korea will immediately recognize that sound and song and think of Kep1er.
As for having more songs… That is much more easily said than done, and look at most recent K-pop groups releases, they only come out with 1 to maybe 4 songs when debuting and most of those songs have been heard before in pre-debut content.
Finally, to touch upon making an English version of the song, I don’t think that would work. Kep1ers music is very K-pop, even “Up!”, so it’s more unique and than regular pop music and would have a hard time appealing to those who are not K-pop fans. If you look at FiftyFity with Cupid, that is a big exception it’s not the norm. The song itself is already basically a regular pop song that is easy to listen to and everyone can enjoy, and it had a lot of help by become a viral trend.
I do agree with the overarching narrative that Kep1er has been mismanaged and that there is a lot of potential there. Especially the part where they don’t have an identity.

Like many other groups whom would have tried a more high-teen concept, then a girlcrush one, then back to a summer cutesy concept (such as Kep1er themselves in this case or CLC in their same label), (G)I-DLE refused to do so.
