- Is this my worst thumbnail yet? Absolutely, no question about it. Overall this was a very frustrating viewing experience and I just don't have the mental capacity to fix the thumbnail. Anyways... to clarify some things just in case anybody looks here before commenting:
I do think Narumi earned her promotion throughout the performance, not just because she got the main parts.
The visual team was completely unbalanced and it is ridiculous that line distribution was even a thing. Literally who sings what does not matter but they let the lines determine the performance and that disadvantaged a majority of the team.
The vocal unit was a joke beginning to end and these producers should be investigated.
All of my criticisms of the vocal unit took their physical health into consideration and parts distribution is based on their healthy vocal tones, not just their performance on this stage.

The urge I have to share this video to every person out there who still has Seo Won as their top 8 pick with the reason 'Born to be Idol'
Fr, I had her in my top 8 but after the later episodes when you actually see them practice more, I replaced her with Yona because she does NOT seem ready for the K-pop industry. I’m literally the same age as her, and I wouldn’t in any way be able to handle all that pressure. I hope for her own sake that she will get eliminated and wait until she’s at least 16 or 17 at youngest before debuting. She’s still a literal kid. Since when did we go that low to debut literal kids who aren’t even teens yet?
This is so true.. just because one is "born to be idol" doesn't mean they only have one chance to it. If she won't make it now, she will make it later in life since she's born to be an idol.

I love Kotoko and am rooting for her, but Catallena was not the song the visual team should have been doing and it was blatantly chosen specifically for her. IMO they should have been doing an elegant song like Love Dive or even the 500th iteration of Feel Special.
Ok YES. I’m rooting for her, nothing against her, but I feel like the producers are allowing only certain people to shine at the expense of equally if not more talented contestants. Also I do have an issue with people being critiqued for performing less well in concepts that don’t suit them while others have not been similarly challenged by their stages. And even then the line distribution was just outright criminal.

This episode is so obviously evil edited + desperately rigged lines that it hurts😭 you can also see who was being pushed forward despite being lacking compared to the other contestants in their team that it's starting to lose me, if it's not because of gehlee and elisia I would just abandon this show😭
You gotta think in producers perspective. If you broadcast the show as is without any drama or conflict, that would be so boring and uninteresting. Girls got their part, performed, and got judged by unicorns. That's boring. Hence, they added in all the rivalries. But in real life, of course that isn't true
Also, the music producers clearly said the parts won't be distributed fairly but based on who is best fitting for the part. They want to promote their songs and their company. And girls that did best got most of the part. I see nothing wrong with that
@@darkapaul yes but in this case almost half of the girls are sick during recording, you can see them wearing masks so obviously they couldn't sing as well as they normally could take Elisia for example in this episode she's one if the best vocalists in the show but in the recording she couldn't even finish one line because she's sick.
@@darkapaulHow do you not see anything bad with it? The fact that the producers said the line distribution won't be fair doesn't make it ok. It's an individual battle, unlike the group battles in which you need to pick the best members so your team can win, in an individual battle, line distribution should be as fair as possible so the winner can be decided based on their true abilities and charms and not just because they had more time to shine than the others.
@@darkapaul Like of course if a few members fit the song more, is expected that they get the highlights and such, but going all the way to giving a contestant 2 seconds, a main vocalist material 6 seconds, and then 25 seconds to the most vocally lacking, is completely and absolutely nuts and rigged. It feels absolutely useless to make half of the girls compete in the first place with 2 to 8 seconds of singing. And like the audacity of the judges to say to girls like Eunhyung that they felt like they "gave up" or "didn't want to be there" is insane, since DUH, who would want to be there knowing you'll sing 2 seconds, have no center time and as expected, not get promoted.
You are the only channel I have watched who profoundly explained why idols shouldn’t debut as a child. 👏🏼
"it highlighted gehlee's visual more than her vocals" I couldn't agree more, emotion wise her and elisia embodied it the most.
Therefore, it further helps to solidify her visual center position if ever she debut. And if that happens, I will finally believe that the producers indeed intend to make a global girl group.

Good job on being a responsible adult. Having a global search where young contestants need to leave their home and country which can give them emotional support is brutal for this young minds. I hope they can overcome any trauma caused by this show.
33:11 All of these examples always break my heart, but Wonyoung hits hards specially because we were born the same year. I remember Produce 48 airing while I was on my first years in high school so imagine myself at that same age going through all of that, I know I would have just broke down several times. The more I get older, the more and more I get worried about all the young people who are getting in the industry.

Yes! Especially when xyz already states the negative effects debuting so young had on them... yet people still choose to ignore those statements.

He himself has talked about it and mentioned he was scared about billie eilish when she was a minor. Plus this is all we are seeing in front of us. We don't know what happens behind closed doors.
I hate how they went from 82 girls to 24 girls and still only give screen time to a handful of them. Also, the part distribution for the vocal and visual group was definitely rigged in favor of seowon and kotoko(not that i hate any of them i just want to see the other contestants have a chance).

Fr, like visual unit's line distribution is a meh but the main focus is the visual itself the vocal unit be triggering me 'cuz the line distribution was not giving, It's a vocal unit for a reason and That's what needed to have the centre of fair line distribution to showcase their vocal.
I love your commentary and it always validates my decision to not watch kpop survival shows. I couldn't handle it I would go mad when the show would blatantly sabotage my faves.
Your point on their ages was perfect and the segment at the end so so impactful. I've always been against debuting such young children but seeing the damage on idols we love so clearly... my heart breaks for them. They are all so amazing and talented and I know they would've been the same if they had debuted a few years later. Maybe they would be even better since they had less regrets and had the time to emotionally mature before debut.
The industry as a whole needs change because as it is, it's harmful for all idols. And while we're working on that we should do everything we can to stop children especially from entering this toxic place.
Hopefully more people will see your video and reconsider their views. Let kids be kids.
I made a video on TikTok where I expressed my concerns for Seowon and told people that if they genuinely care for her and her mental health they shouldn’t vote for her, guess what? People were spamming comments about how I was ruining her dreams and how I was “manipulating” people into not voting for her when the only thing I wanted to express with that video was my concerns with someone that age debuting, I gave people tons of examples of what she would go through if she ended up debuting, yet everyone were still mad at me saying “she know what she wants” and “she can make her own decisions” which was far from the truth, a 12 year old cannot make their own decisions about what paths they’ll take in life. But this doesn’t apply to only Seowon, it applies to young contestants in general, the youngest idol in the industry should be 16 if not 17 but 12??? There’s no way that people actually don’t find any problem with debuting at that age.
And for those of you that are reading this comment and think that it’s ridiculous, do you guys realise that these kids will get sexualised, stalked, hated on, starve themselves and maybe even get abused by their company??? The kpop industry is no place for children and the fact that some of y’all are still gonna defend these companies and survival shows for having them is horrible
Seriously, those people are nuts. When I was little, I wanted to do all sorts of ridiculous things and had I been allowed to, I'd have gotten ridiculously hurt! Were those people never children to say such things, as if they never had foolish ideas?!

I feel even contestants like Sunwoo and the other older contestants will get eliminated or rigged out of the final lineup because they want to make a younger Newjeans. As you said before, it does seem like the group concept is going to follow in Newjeans footsteps, young, innocent, pure conceptually. But even though Newjeans were young the members of whateva group this is going to be in will be like 12, 15, 16. If older contestants ( 17+) are going to debut they are going to have a limited relationship with the younger members and they will also be forced to babysit them.
I wish I was wrong, Hyeonju is the only adult in Unis.
that line distribution for the vocal team isn't just fishy, the whole ocean just smells terrible cuz it's that obvious, papermaker (more like troublemaker) handled both visual and vocal teams.
One thing that's bugging me is that both Visual and Performance unit's votes from other contestants are shown but not Vocal. It's probably not the results they are expecting that supports their narrative for this episode or hopefully they would show it next episode..🤔
As for Elisia being able to incorporate emotion in her performance even though younger than her co contestants was probably due to her acting background. She's a child actress in the Philippines and have starred on several TV dramas so she already have the experience for that.
They pushed Seowon to get the spotlight a lot because they need a Korean to be #1/center. If Seowon sits out, the other 3 are foreigners.

Kim Sumin is really underrated in my perspective. She's one of the girls that has the most possibility to debut! She's one of my fav and she MUST debut!

Like judge-wise says who are an (expert) in Kpop idol-ing-- they could see the potential in Kotoko's future performances which they did saw her improvements overtime: her pronunciation, vocal and stamina are gradually increasing if she gains confidence of herself, I do want to see Kotoko perform a dark theme type song and see if she can handle any theme wise because all she has been getting are lively ones which I don't really care. Overall in my opinion Kotoko has great potential given that she is inspired because of her sister who is an Kpop (?) Idol I believe? or Jpop, I forgot..

Oh, I just wanted to add: I've been professionally trained as an actor and I can confirm that they tell you and convince you (at least at school/uni level) that it's your responsibility to keep healthy, ergo it is your fault to be sick. I was the entire episode saying "WHY are they all sharing the same mic? I hope they are disinfecting it between each girl and ventilating the studio!". My guess is that they didn't. They were all getting sick because there was no precaution from the RESPONSIBLE ADULTS to provide with a proper work environment. But the judges (I remember my teachers) blame them, and say it's a skill to keep healthy. It is, but outside on the bus or the subway idk but not in the place where they should only think about their tasks and performing their best That was kinda triggering because it really is like that and they scold you if your voice is not at its best and you feel ill.

Lim Seowon probably thinks joining this survival show is a good idea. Not only is she debuting at 12/13 but she'll be debuting at a future nugu group. Those years will be wasted. Such a shame, she could've just trained at 15 in some agencies instead of joining and debuting here way too early. I'm sure even big companies would want her
God..... Nugu groups have to work so much harder too. I really hope the members can terminate their contracts once the group starts flopping. Breaks my heart to think about them overworking and struggling.
if it is true that this show is a cooking show to debut kotoko and seowon I would feel bad for the rest of the girls did so well but do not suit to debut with the theme that these 2 fit. I wouldn't wanna see nana in a group that has to adjust to kotoko. I want her to be in a group like Girls on Top with Jayla and other performers. it's weird how this is a pool of incohesive genres of girls. I hope they debut 2 groups 1 girl crush and 1 cute concept group

If I at 12 years old entered the current job position I am currently in now, he’d never make it.
I’m older than 18 currently, and getting through my two current jobs + college with only a few hiccups every now and then.
I entered High School at 12 years old, barely turning 13, not even old enough for the labor laws in my state. Every time I see an Idol whose age isn’t even near my age of High School Graduation (17), I get a chill up my spine. And I’m young for this technical scale, so the fact that there is *younger* than me, working towards a dream career in a hellscape is a terrifying thought.

the fact that Kotoko's rank is higher than Sunwoo is so disgusting and unfair. + notice how everytime Kotoko performs, youll never hear anyone say "her voice is so well" or "she can dance" because her only "talent" is being cute(which is all anyone compliments her for bc thats all shes good at..) ANYONE can act cute in the lineup but cuteness is NOT NEEDED for a debut lineup...

4:22 THIS!! There are songs that are difficult not because of high notes, belting and the like, they are difficult because they test your ability to emote, how do you inject attitude or your total comittent to the concept of the song.
To put examples, I think TXT songs are a lot of the times difficult to perform because there's so much emotions in their songs that if your emoting is not on par, you're going to make it sound soulless. Or Xdinary Heroes, attitude is key for a lot of their songs, so if you don't know how to inject attitude into it, the song falls flat.
That's why, for example, (G)I-DLE's Tomboy falls flat to me. That type of song requires attitude and only Soyeon and Yuqui do that, so it makes the song feel somewhat empty and flat. However, My Bag is also a song that requires attitude and all the members deliver there, so maybe the problem is that the majority of the members don't suit rock that much?🤔

The age thing is still crazy to me, but for a different reason. Its the kpop fandom in general and the absolute bi-polar reactions with age. An example of what I mean: I stan TripleS which is a group with an interesting 24-member concept that I wont dive into right now, but recently they released 4 new members, and one of them is the youngest member so far at 15 (and I believe she is turning 16 this month). I saw a video talking about the members age and debut and it was FULL of comments absolutely DISGUSTED with Maudhaus (the company) and wanting the member basically taken back, like not allowed to debut. While I think she is very young to be debuting, I personally think 16+ is an okay age for debut as long as the concepts are not gross and the overall health of the artist is taken into consideration. But then, going back to Universe Ticket and seeing people basically begging to debut this 12-13 year old girl gives me SUCH whiplash! Where are all the age-angry comments for Universe Ticket? Are the deleted or non-existent? Are people giving certain children a pass and others not? I am not sure but I am sure its crazy! My line up preferences havent changed much.
Aside from letting the sick contestants rest, they could have given more lines to those who are not sick. But no, PD said "Oh, you're sick? Okay then here are more lines. Don't forget to cough in your intro!"
Nana did so well this episode she would be such a great center i just wish we got to see more we already know she's a great center for her last svs, I wanted more rap,singing and dancing, But she did well as always, Everything that's happening to Prkil i really hope she debuts, Sumin is so great can people please stop sleeping on her! 😢, Gehlee and Eilsia Hyeonju literally were so pretty, Narumi is so amazing that's all i have to say. Sewon is so so talented but she's so young and it it shows alot i get so confused do they like her and is supposed to be cute and maknae, Or is she supposed so be bratty and spoiled? Sbs is so confused if they want her or not. And it shows i feel so bad for her and i really think she should miss out and wait a couple more years before doing something big like this. Catallena wasn't not itx for visual songs i would have done Red Velvet feel my rhythm, Be natural,Twice fancy, Or Even Unnatural by WJSN, Beautiful should have had a better dis could have been such a pretty performance, If a team could win it would have to be loco dancing like that and singing live shocked me due to prior performancesl cause it was bigger and out there compared to the other two, And although i thought Nana did well and i loved the different concept i would have loved to see her in loco, Her and Narumi would have done so well.
I had alot of thoughts this episode, They're clear biases for Kotone and Sewon showing is crazy, I only keep watching for Nana, Hyeonju Eilsia and Gehlee i only hope they can all make it, But Sbs dream line up is very clear it's sad tbh.

I agree 100% with everything you have said and I really appreciate the outro and using your platform to spread awareness. I feel so conflicted watching the show because I love korean survival shows, but I do think the 'older' contestants should be the ones debuting, but I guess we are aware that's not happening. Sumin, Yona, Narumi, Seunwoo, Hyeonju, Gyeoryon, Haram and Gehlee are my favourites, and I must admit I have a soft spot for Kotoko, just because she's adorable and the editing suits her immensely. I agree with the blonde bob point, I have been thinking the same thing. I think she can be so much better, but she needs more time and training; she can get there, I mean Hyewon in IZ*ONE showed zero everything and made it to the group and at least could blend in on the dances. Kotoko has already showed more than she ever did on P48.

I'm new in Kpop industry, glad that I watched your video, thanks for the message, As I comment now, as someone who watched the journey of these girl group and know who made it. Your message change my view on them, but I'll still support them but JUST within this 2yrs and 6months, no more. I don't want them to renew or extend that shit. HOPE this girls will realize what they truly want after the contract expire. I HOPE that company will spare them healthy, and I HOPE people will leave them peacefully, but all of that are just Hope. Dunno what lies ahead of them, I just wish that they will still smile the same when they first taste how sweet cotton candy is.

I’ve always rooted for my gal Jin Hyeonju, but now I don’t want her to debut. To be honest, I don’t think the group will be successful. Of course it depends on their company, but take Class:y as an example. They worked so hard and ended up being a nugu group with 1 comeback:( I have mixed feelings about this show, it’s interesting how successful the group will be

the funny thing about this ep is that, its supposed to be a vocal unit but there were no equal line distributions, it doesnt make sense, it looks like seowon and friends

That last section of this video.... There are so many stories about now adult idols feeling sadness and even regret at missing out on so many things because they either debuted young, or started training at a young age (like Jihyo). The people actively voting in these young contestants.... They are not thinking about the mental en physical impact this industry will ahve on these young teenagers.

Well... wow. I've been a heavy consumer of various korean survival shows for girlgroups in particular. Before watching this video I wasn't that strongly against having young trainees debute, but you nicely rounded up the various problems the industry will throw at them. Really informative, really well explained and at the same time.... really sad. Really appreciate the videos you've been putting up.

Yunha's (and many suspect Kotoko's) agency is the same agency that will manage this girl group once it debuts. I am sure the agency (and the big company behind it) demanded the show PDs to make sure Yunha (and Kotoko) got all the exposure to make the team.

Also, I never understood why vocal units or rap units in most survival shows also have to dance. Isn't the whole point of being on a vocal unit to showcase and highlight your vocals? Why include choreo on the vocal unit. Like the combination mission in Girls Planet got that memo, along with Queendom and Kingdom
(The only problem I have with the combination mission was that not all of the contestants could choose freely their talent and a bunch of them probably got the talent they least wanted to do)

it would make sense if it was a team battle like the other rounds where its more beneficial for the best performers to get more parts so your team get a higher chance of winning and getting more people promoted and less people eliminated
but that was not the case here, the girls were competing against each other for the same role
so how will the other girls compete when they barely had a chance to showcase their skills
the vocal team had the worst part distribution like almost half of it was given to Seowon alone

Honestly I totally agree.... About the age... I saw many people sharing their tip pick including 12y/o girl... I was like... Isn't she too young. We all know what idols shared about their past story and impact of the industry to them.. We all see many idols debuting in young age receiving harsh comments, hate, etc... The consequences.. We all see
But wth continuing voting for them when we feel like we have at least a little bit power
When I saw the vocal team I was like, Sujin is so freaking talented she'll gonna kill it... But waiting for her part.. I was chocked like.. At least they have to hide the favoritism but here... It's too open. 😔I'm not even her fan but recognize her voice

Nice 👍🏻. I do agree that performance unit had the best stage to evaluate because: 1) each member got 2-3 rounds each to sing in their song, 2) in every line they sing, each trainee were highlighted in their dance choreography even without getting thos kill moves 3) the camera distribution was well done, everybody got fair screentime. Amongst the 3 promoted, Narumi won that fair and square, unlike the other two (although seowon did great and I like her, her line distribution irks me so much 😅). I commend Galactika, i like them last ep 6 eventhough they lost both battles but they presented well distributed as possible performance.
I can’t even repeat that performance of Visual Unit. Song choice already is too much for my ears, then everybody acting cute and doing baby voices then making weird noises is just too hard to watch and listen 😂😭.. And that line distribution is just the worst, even the camera following just 3 people really made me mad 😅 Papermaker did so badly this round after winning all the battles last ep 6.
Lastly my Vocal team. I expected so much from this team because 5 were my biases. And the preview showing their looks really made me expect more, and I even commented that most of the visuals in UT went to the vocals unit 😂 which triggered a lot of comments 🤣.. I actually liked the song choice but the distribution was just so badly done. They should have chopped that intro and outro into two and gave it to 4 different trainees. That plus the verse 1 would be enough to have already 2 sentences each trainee. And yes Yunha was expressionless eventhough I like her, that comment that she gave the emotion to the song was 50/50 for me (you can hear it in her voice but her facial expression was blank). Gehlee, Huran, Sunji actually have lower voice register so I think they should have gotten lines from either intro/outro or the verse 1. When they started verse 1 with seowon’s voice, I already predicted that Gehlee, Huran, and Sujin will get the least line, I mean who starts a song with the singer who have the highest timbre of voice? 😂… Although I think Elisia and Seowon is the best pick for that last blending. Why? As much as Sujin or Sunwoo can hit high notes, they were also emotionless throughout the performance, check the face cam. In fairness to Seowon she had parts wherein I can feel emotions from her expressions. And Elisia’s falsetto + expression actually hit the message of the song, which is sadness and longing. The way she sang that part and the other ‘kuriwo’ (don’t know the spelling😅) made the song memorable. If I will judge who portrayed this song with their vocals AND facial expression, my top 4 would probably be: elisia, huran, gehlee and seowon/hyeonju. When it comes to vocals I always look at facial expressions and how they portray the song with their voices. 😊
And same sentiments on that recording😂 who the hell pre-records a VOCALs evaluation performance? And that happened even during the eliminated girls were still present, what happened to their lines?? who got them?? 😂
I was so disappointed with the vocal team's performance. And it's not even on the girls. I was expecting harmonies, layers, and dynamics - not dancing! Where was the vocal director to arrange 3-part or 5-part harmonies throughout the verses? I needed the altos to show up and add texture to the performance. I wanted them to stand in place with handheld mics and sing their little hearts out. Beautiful was a bland serving of porridge.
Honestly, they can manage to not rig their show by casting contestants that literally fit the debut team's concept. Like most of these survivals hows, they just rig it to form a solid visually appealing debut line up that fits the concept that they are looking forward. And I can tell you, the ones who doesn't fit are just fillers for the show. It is sad but true.
I also firmly believe that visuals really has a part of creating a top-idol group, you can't jsut put anybody else in the final line up without them having a facial harmony with one another. That's why most of the debut team from survival show flops, it's just, they're not cohesive to look at.

I am okay with debuting 16 years old so long as they only trained for less than a year before debuting (meaning, they start their idol journey at 15). I was once a student before so I believe a 15 years-old can have the maturity to take the challenge. But of course this is not speaking for all 15 years-old. Individual differences are, of course, present. Even among adults there are people who have the fortitude while some are blatant immature.
I mean that could have a negative effect on them still bc you would present them to the public with minimal preparation and they'll just get scrutinised more. But I do very much agree on the not debuting people under 16 part. There should also definitely be a limit on when they can join a company. Too many people wasting their childhoods there waiting for a debut that might never happen.
Perfect debut age is 18-20 for me. Maybe few years training before. Kinda utopian but a girl can dream
