Actually, the mountain lemurs are based on indris, the largest living lemurs. This is reflected in Sage's birth name, Babak, and his brother Koto's name. Babakoto is the native name for indris.

This is about the Madagascar timeline, but you said the penguins of Madagascar show takes place after the penguins movie, because the lemurs probably came back with them, but in the intro of the show it says they were shipped from Madagascar???
