Until I did the research and talked to the actual hospital in Nigeria he said he was at thru a "friend" needing money for a apparent heart surgery.
Shouldn't be too long before we have AI security and personal assistance that can alert us to these scams, worst case is she falls in love with the AI and donate her 401k to the developers

But I also agree that there have been young people scammed as well, but mostly for similar reasons, they are belligerent and ignore the red flags because they want to believe that they are smart. They always have ridiculous excuses that make sense to the victim. Like “my manager handles all my money and doesn’t want me to eat too much and get fat” or “I’m getting divorced so I can be with you and all my finances are being looked at by lawyers so I have to keep you secret” etc.

Omg,that’s just really tragic ,I’m 74 and I’ve been single for over 40 years ,i don’t get lonely ,I don’t have a boyfriend,I don’t want a boyfriend I love myself ,I live in an assisted living facility and have fur 7 years now have on,y a few friends two are men (friends only)and the rest are women and they are employees here,I’m a retired nurse,so I get along with the staff on our skilled nur unit on the 2nd floor ,we have a lot of very gullible elderly people here ,I’m glad I’m not one of them ,I pity this poor woman .

My best friend mom killed herself last March because of this type of fraud. She lost over 750,000 in 3 years. . It made Québec news and hundred of people who parents and relatives were victim as well reached out to my friend. In Granby Quebec, An investigation is ongoing. We need to push legislations to change the law so we can protect our seniors. We need to change the law so we can support our relatives victim of fraud.
😢how sad. My parents who are in their 80s have been almost scammed by someone posing as my cousin. Thankfully they had the idea of calling my aunt who told them my cousin was doing pretty well in his life. I hate those scammers people 😒
It is not limited to seniors. There needs to be a mental health diagnosis designation and treatment developed.

I worked with the elderly for decades. This lady has the beginnings of dementia. They are easily confused and become combative when they are confronted with reality. I hope her family is able to stop her before the scammers get all her money. When that happens, the scammers get mean and threatening.

I caught the threatening ramping up the scam. BUT dad was ALWAYS combative when even remotely challenged, so when he started to slip, it seemed "normal". And 1.6 million in "kash", the family legacy, went out the door.

When I was in middle school, there was this girl that used to ride our school bus who thought that one of the pop stars of the time was in love with her. She would write him letters all the time. She was totally convinced that eventually someday they will get together and get married. She was delusional and bizarre. I’ll never forget that girl. So sad.
