It is wrong that the interior paintings represent kings defeated by Islam. Some were, like Rodericus or Rodrigo, Visigoth king of Hispania, but there are also others, like the king of China, a territory never invaded at that time.
They are put in place to give pomp and pageantry to the caliphs, but it is pure propaganda.
It is wrong to think that this building is Arab. They recovered it, reestablished it, but it must have originally been a Bedouin well for the caravans, then a Roman fort (lemes = limes = border).
The paintings and texts are Greek, perhaps made by Byzantine Romans, speaking in Greek, or the artists were. The Romans loved everything Greek.
Furthermore, Islam prohibited representations of animals, much less human ones, but it was after this realization that erotica abounded.
Paintings restored by specialist technicians from Madrid, Spain.
