    Good to see the engine running great! Good job!
    I had a super beetle that would shake like that when you were up to 40-45mph. Put the poly bushings in the front end, it took care of that problem.

      Much appreciated... Unfortunately the thing has front end suspension like a beetle or a Ghia so it's just ball joints and tie rods no bushings having dove into it yet still waiting on response from the owner to see direction but I'm thinking it's a combination of a tire imbalance and something bent on the front end tie rod related... Or at least I'm hoping it's something easy like that

    My Ghia reverse came to me with a pop out condition. That was 7 years ago and I have just lived with it. It is still not as bad as the Thing was, but I just adjust my parking accordingly. I ordered a new switch and will eventually (you know what that means) change it, or continue living with it. I enjoyed this video just as I always do in watching your work.

      Much appreciated as always.. typically I've been lucky getting away with replacing or just removing the nub off reverse light switches and gaining reverse back but I think this thing has had no reverse for far too long and it's just been forced countless amount of times to where there's nothing left to grab onto once any torque gets applied

    Gutted to see and hear about the gearbox :( but positive engine sounds great snd car looks great. Nice work sir

      Much appreciated... Unfortunately it is what it is... Car will probably be back as the owner chose to deal with the not having reverse for the time being... Currently just trying to figure out the death wobble/tank slapper it has going on

      @@vwcoco not 100% sure yet it's been raining here every day and haven't be able to take it out yet... Re did the alignment as well as rebalance the tires as they are wide fives and don't look like they've been balanced... Hard to find shops that have the adapters to handle that style rim around here if not specialty... Everything else in the front end looks and feels tight so I'm starting with the easiest first before I go start throwing parts at it

    One of the worst feelings! After 21 years producing, hosting, editing a Public Radio program, my worst feeling came in year 2 when, after recording and editing the entire program that featured 3 in studio guests, instead of hitting the save button, I hit delete. I had not even saved as I was editing. Then to add insult to the whole mess, I had to ask the guests to re-record the program. Fortunately for me - the graciously did. I feel your pain.

      Mann I typically try to only keep my record time to 30-45 min instead of filling 2.5h on one card to try to avoid things like this but you know it always happens the one time you don't do something and brake you normal routine it will bite you... I was even contemplating taking everything apart and "staging" the repair all over again but that's not how I roll ... suck now because I'm a week behind now in content without a cushion

    Don’t know if I’m correct but the braided fuel lines are 5mm and are NOT ethanol proof. Therefore need to be replaced every year? I ALWAYS use ethanol free gas. So do I need to worry about replacement.
    Or what kind of fuel hose should I use?
    Thanks much for answering my questions.

      You're correct the original fuel line is 5 mm cloth style and yes if you get the original stuff it is not ethanol rated so what happens is it tends to either swell or dry out and crack... Personally I don't use the original style fuel line due to this problem whether using ethanol or not unless I'm putting hose clamps on the ends of the original style cloth line... With that said I personally just run quarter inch fuel line which is about 6 mm you need to run hose clamps anyway and you can pick it up at any parts house by the foot... Anything a part's house provides is ethanol rated so you should be fine for years

    the stock wheel and tire are very narrow on the thing

    • @airkooledmotorwerks
      @airkooledmotorwerks  5 месяцев назад +1

      As far as I can tell they're no different than a Ghia a beetle or a bus... And the and the tires that are actually mounted on this thing are wider than factory 195s compared to 165s.. I think the shake like I said in the video has to do with an inbalance and something's just unsettled in the front end
