I wish you had listed the plants you discussed. Not sure how to spell some, not sure I heard others correctly.
Interesting to hear what worked for you. I would like to be able to view the pictures longer. Could you do a split screen while your talking about each plant? I agree with Pretty Sunshine that it would be nice to have each plant, in order of discussion, listed in the description.

Thanks! I created a monster by planting “Gooseneck Loosestrife “ well little did I know it is like mint,,,runners that are red thank god there red, lol and I’ve been pulling this out for years now in perennial bed😭 It has pretty white flowers that bend over like a neck, lol and I was putting in white flowers, now I’m paying the price

Diamond snow euphorbia would look amazing with the dog woods.
I live in southern Wisconsin and grew the Senecio in a pot. I brought it into the garage that stays above freezing. It is near a window and it looks good. I also dug out the Lemon Coral Sedum and brought a big clump inside to keep in the garage. It also looks good.
I’m so sorry that Urn broke. What an absolute bummer! I do, however, love the alien that you put in front of it. Hopefully you’ll find something comparable and be on your way to this year’s adventure.

I'm really looking forward to the upcoming growing season since I pre-ordered some Tropicanna cannas because I just LOVED them in your urn (that glow!!). I love your garden, Erin! I live on Whidbey Island in Washington and envy your summer rain! We have very sandy loam that drains too fast, and we are in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mtns. I am forever adding organic material. My favorite vines are clematis. I think I’m addicted!

I subscribe to many garden related sites, but I find your content to be so relatable to my garden style. Perhaps because you give what works and what did not work. You started my dahlia passion by the way. I had no idea I could grow dahlias in the Midwest. My first attempt last spring turned out to be mind blowing. In a high tunnel in Illinois no less.

Purple bell vine looked great and if I can find seeds I may give it a go this year. Also from now on I want you to narrate all the garden things for me, I had laughed so hard few times that I choked on my coffee. Just love how you do this effortlessly and naturally!

I found some Angel Wings at the end of summer and planted it among ornamental cabbage for a winter display. It’s doing great in my 8b zone so far. Looks beautiful against the purples of the cabbage. Truly a statement plant! I would love to try the purple bell vine this year. Thanks, Erin!

Well, now I need to acquire seeds of the "very rude vine" to go with my Peter peppers and Elephant Head Amaranth, which I affectionately refer to as "F-U flowers"! LOL! Also, I ADORE your window box in all its iterations, and the hyacinth bean bringing the ...jungle to the side of the house was amazing!
I also MUST try growing purple bell vine next year!! Wow! And there is no such thing as over the top. I loved the wild and romantic look of the hyacinth bean in the window boxes.

Oh gosh! Yes the quaking grass will take over! The Jewels of Opar will too but easier to control. I'm in central NC zone 7.

Erin really enjoyed the summary of “the good the bad and the ugly” of 2020!!! I grew the purple hyincinth bean vine and totally loved the result on my south facing trellis and that foliage is so pretty. I wish I would have tried to save the pods and seeds for this years planting but I did find it at Fleet Farm last year!!

Hey Erin! I grew purple bell vine in two hanging baskets on a western exposure, hot, sunny spot. They did great! Love them. However my cup and saucer vine (same exposure) grew lush saucers with not a single cup! No blossoms, not a one. PS Thanks for all the tips!

I had jewels of opal come back several years after I originally planted it. Never saw it in between. Evidently seeds wait until conditions are just right. Zone 6
I just got the seeds in last week for "The Very Rude Vine" I didn't realize it was obscene - my 18 year old son will find this hysterical. Thanks for the videos!

Thanks for the heads up on the quaking grass! I was thinking about growing it but maybe I’ll pass. I did bunny tails from seed last year and it seeded EVERYWHERE. Glad I moved 😁
Thanks for the video. Some interesting plants in there. I will definitely try out the Jewels of Opar, I'll see if I can get hold of the seeds over here in Spain, not too easy at times. Also the Rhodochiton Atrosanguineus, I have been looking for a more unusual vigorous vine that likes a bit of shade. Looks like it could fit in perfectly.
Vines are my focus this year--they need to start covering a super white vinyl fence that blinds us in the summer. Thanks for the ideas!

crazy. Already got the seeds in hand! 😎 I also had a meh year with calendula. I was really excited about them but they seemed more like a weed. May be for another year.

Have grown those begonia in a hanging basket by our front door in northern exposure shade. Do spectacular and way less fussy than fuchsias, etc. Look great with trailing coleus.
the hyacinth vine was an inspired decision. I think American gardeners tend to be very geometrical and match-matchy but don't be scared to go a little wild and cottagey. it has charm and wonder.
I grew a purple super be a under my mandarin tree in a pot. It looked amazing for years

I loved my angel wings as well. Overwintered it indoors and made a ton of cuttings with it. BUT once it got aphids on it (ants were farming the black ones alllll over it) I could not get rid of them. I gave up and let it freeze this year. I agree the salvia argentia is equally interesting and less trouble. My angel wings never did get as big as I see it in pictures. I prefer New Look dusty Miller honestly and it’s easy peasy!

Yes, a video on vining plants would be great! I want to plant more but need ideas on where I can put them other than an arbor or trellis. I know you have mentioned adding them to shrubs. Can any shrub tolerate this?
Sea Oats or Quaking Grass (whatever the proper name is) was one of my top 5 BIGGEST garden errors. I think that grass should be either banned or come with a warning label. I purchased 6 plants about ten years ago and they looked glorious in a sweeping area. By next spring my hubs comes in and says, not sure what it is but there are countless bright green baby sprouts everywhere. OMG I was digging out seedlings for the next 3 years. I had to deconstruct dozens of plants to extract those seedlings. I have an acre botanical garden and it was covered.
I loved this video and I'm also fascinated by vines, in fact I think I have more vines than shrubs in my container garden!! They are just so dreamy looking.
As for the purple bell vine it's pronounced
Ro-do-kEE-ton atro-san-goo-EE-neus and it means 'red (like a rose bloom colour) cloak' (Greek) and 'dull black/gloomy bloody-red' (Latin). It has been on my wishlist for years and it's borderline hardy in my area, if the winter is mild. I think I might finally order it online this year.

Erin, I really enjoyed the look back at your 2020 garden successes, and also the plants that didn't perform as expected. Thanks for the information about the Purple Bell vine seeds, my seeds arrived today from Park Seed Company, and I'm looking forward to getting them started. Did you give them bottom heat to help the seeds germinate?

I love your videos. You have great information and I appreciate you sharing your experiences. I'm a rather new gardener so could you either slow down a bit - I have difficulty understanding some of the names of plants when you say them quickly. I'd like to search their name and learn about them. Another option could be to type the major plants that you feature in the notes so I can get the names there. Keep up the good work. You inspire me. Thank you for all the time it takes to make these videos.
This is so informative. I wish you would write the name of each plant you're talking about. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. And I missed some additional illustrations (you talk about a gorgeous bloom but don't show any pictures of it). I love the somehow wild aspect of your plantations. I feel more comforted there than in a garden with lesser plants and space in between them.
I live near Longwood Gardens, as for Vines I always plant a Moonflower as well as smaller vines such as Thunbergias, Tried Purple hyacinth bean and found that the Japanese Beatles LOVED it
For containers facing east I usually plant an Upright Fuchsia as the main flower and Calibrachoa that drape over the sides as well as as many different sun coleus I can get. I also love the look of carefree coleus but can't find them as plants or seeds any more
Did you use soil heating to start the purple bell vine? I have several soil heating mats also when did you start the seeds, for me (Zone 6) it looks like I should start mid Feb or so
I love purple Hyacinth vine. I grew it and I'm going to keep doing it. I also want the purple bell vine. I have a pot of golden hops and chocolate vine I've got trellis designs for.
I love golden hops. I haven't grown them yet but one of these days that's happening.
I have the Rodochiton seeds - I’m excited to give them a try! I grew Cobea Scandens last year and the vines grew like crazy beasts- but didn’t flower all that much, hoping the purple bell vine does better for me 🤞

@@bryonyhellis Noo!! I think Erin said in another video about this vine that she ended up buying plants from Select Seeds. I remember one year I planted a passion flower vine, and it grew to 8 feet tall -- not a single flower.
Supertunia honey would be pretty under your dogwoods. Especially in the fall.
I’ll be interested to see how the Jewels of Opar resends for you. I’ve had it before and had mild reseeding but they eventually fizzled.

Interested to hear you say you planted canna in a nursery pot and then put pot in the urn. Seems like a good idea to keep the canna in check. Mine in urns were out of control.
I actually did it originally because the canna wants more water and food than the rest of the plants, but it ended up being important to keep it in check. I now do this anytime I plant a large ornamental grass in a planter as well, as they will eat up all available room quickly.

Beware the cardinal climber. Aggressive reseeder. I got a blocker last year. Get one. You won’t regret it.
Did the deer ignore your purple bell flower? I am redoing my front garden and want to place a vine in between the two front windows. Have tons of deer. Somewhat funny story. We have had to deal with blasting for 1.5 years. Just prior to the blasting our fence blew down in a windstorm. I was afraid that the deer would eat all my plants in our backyard. The blasting kept them away. Once the blasting stop the deer were back and ate all my plants. I want to put up a new fence, but right now my neighbour can't afford it.
The purple bell vine was in one of the few places I could be sure the deer wouldn't get at it: on the deck. They haven't dared to do the stairs yet. So I can't say how it would fair against deer.

Am looking for some information you gave on one of your programs and unfortunately I did not write down which one it was. You sang the praises of a plant you said was sensational in every way. I grow in zone 5b and would like to give it a try. It was called, nepeta. Just am wondering if there are different varieties and which one you recommend.
