    Thank you once again Sarah! I love your videos and all the extra tips you give us, keep up the great work ! 😃❤
    I have 3 boar Piggies they are all brothers and thanks to you i was able to build them a cage that would fit in my room and would be big enough for all of them! Heres some advice for new owners:
    1. If you get 2 guinea pigs a 5x2 C&C cage will be a comfortable home for them, but the bigger the better! 👍
    2. Hay! Most Guineapig owners don't understand that you can never give a guinea pig too much hay, hay helps their digestive system to work and helps wear down their evergrowing teeth.
    3. Treats- when you walk into a pet shop, you get to the small animals section and find an irresistible guineapig treat you might just pick it up and give it to your piggie, but always remember to check the ingredients. For example wheat, wheatflour, seeds and nuts are only a few things that can be harmful to guineapigs.
    4. Bedding Type- When i first got my guinea pigs the pet shop assistant said i should buy woodshavings for their bedding, I did so thinking it was safe and hygienic. However when I did more research on it, i found that pine and cedar shavings were toxic to guineapigs, I also found that I was allergic to the dust from it, so I switched to fleece and found a tutorial on Squeak Dreams how to make your own fleece bedding, Fleece is so much more easier to wash and clean I highly recommend it!
    5. Have Fun! Bonding with your new guineapig can be great for you and your piggie to spend quality time together and over time, your guineapig will be less timid and will enjoy lap time as part of their daily or weekly routine!
    Hoped this helped! 😃💞

    It’s a privilege to take care of these beautiful little ones. As they leave this Earth Realm there’s always room for a new herd. We owe it to any Animal we are entrusted to care for to do our absolute best for them and the bond we form with them is just surreal. Such beautiful Videos Sarah. Deeply grateful.

    Hello, I love your care information on guinea pigs & videos of those adorable potatoes! I have 8 guinea pigs, 4 girls and 4 boys. They are housed inside in a C&C cages. The guinea's are rescues from the humane society in the U.S. The rescue provided me with a lot of information including the websites specialized in getting the correct housing for my babies. It also has a lot of caring information and good brands of food like hay, pallets and veggies to feed them. They also have specialists working at the rescue for there health. I love rescues they do a great job and we need to support them in anyway we can.

    OK... I adopted two piggies at the end of April and have been learning a lot ever since... a good amount from you and your videos which I appreciate immensely! I have a question and would love to hear your thoughts on a potentially controversial topic reto: routine guinea pig healthcare. Some folks who do know a lot about guinea pigs and their care recommend using some of the treatments used for common GP health issues on a regular basis (ie. every few months, etc.). Such as Ivermectin, dandruff shampoo baths, and/or anti-fungal treatments... in order to prevent these illnesses/infections as opposed to waiting until the piggie(s) actually contract them and then having to seek vet care. Just wondering what you think about that practice... I want to make a wise decision for my two cutie pie piggies! 🙂

    Posting in several areas, as I don't know if you'll see this, but my pig suddenly stopped being able to eat his veggie treats and also his favorite Timothy hay heads. He mainly prefers his pellets now. I've done a bit of research and found that their teeth can grow over and occlude the tongue. He really wanted his treats but just couldn't eat them, so we tried chopping his veggies very small, and he immediately was eager and able to eat them. Have you ever seen this? I've read that the vet may have to put them under and file the teeth down (hundreds or $1000 in my area). Someone mentioned even havinf to put the lig down! He's my friend and buddy, five years old, and otherwise is good health. Your thoughts please?

    Hey Sarah! I have a question, so when we first got our piggies they where pregnant, we soon found that out, one thing led to another and we ended up with 10. Since we where still “new” too having piggies (we owned 2 a good 5 + years ago) we had them in pet store cages, I’ve been doing loads of research seeing what I can change, currently my Guinea pigs are outside on a porch/deck/verandah, i have the option to close it in adding a door meaning I can help with the temperature with a fan and heater would that help? I have no option to bring them inside with cats and dogs. Secondly! I’m saving up for c&c cages, I’m going to custom them all a cage too there size
    I have 3 herds!
    A herd of 3 boys/boars
    A potential herd of 2 boys/boars (in the bonding process)
    And a herd of 5 females,
    My parents said, as long as they are outside you can do whatever with them, so what would be the right sized C&C cage for all of them?

    Sarah, Do you leave lights on for your guinea pigs? If so, what kind of lights and how long? Also, our baby piggies don't seem to eat much hay. I clean out their hay bin every morning (It is a plastic bin with the side cut out, like yours.), and refresh their hay throughout the day, but I have never seen them in it. There are some poops so they must go in sometime. Thank you! Julie

    Really appreciated this video, very helpful with caring for a blind piggy (probably a permanent situation now). Unfortunately, every attempt at bonding had failed before she came to us, probably due to her blindness. All the information in this video was very helpful. (as usual!) She is in a very large C & C cage. You state 1 tbsp. of pellets per day is adequate, but I have been keeping her pellet dish full constantly, guess I should cut back? Also have been feeding assorted fresh veggies twice a day, should I cut down on that amount, too? How to reduce food amount without upsetting her? (she does get unlimited hay, refreshed daily)

    • @saturnthemirrorball
      @saturnthemirrorball 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, pellets don’t need to be a constant supply. If she’s accustomed to having it constant & you want to tone it down, I would do it slowly so a drastic change doesn’t scare her. If you do it in a big heap at the beginning of the day, I would remove 1 tbsp or tsp every week until you’re down to the desired amount. If you top it up during the day, perhaps add a smaller amount than you usually do so she still gets the routine but you give her less.
      Hope this helps!!
      P.S on veggies, it depends how much of them you are feeding her. Guinea pigs only really need about a cup of veggies per day, which is actually recommended to be split up throughout the day. As long as you’re feeding her within the limit it should be fine.

    Thank you for what you are doing to the genuia pig community. God bless you Sarah. Our genuia pig Jalila hasn't been eating for a month. We have been giving her critical care (forced) we took her to the vet and the vet gave us meds and said she has an inflammation in her throat. After taking the medicine for some days she ate pellets once but couldn't again. We went to the vet one more time, she still didn't recover so he gave us another kind of meds and she still she won't eat. Today we noticed she didn't poop for 17 hours. We are very worried, we don't know what to do. We still give her critical care but we are very scared, We don't know what she has. Please respond. We don't know what to do anymore but we will never give up on her. Please respond.

      See a specialist guinea pig vet, it really does make the world of difference. Not being able to eat but still willing to indicates tooth problems, she may need her teeth filing down. Do you know what the meds are and any more information about this throat inflammation? Was the vet actually able to diagnose anything? Inflammation is a symptom, what is causing it?

    I am getting lil baby piggies in the next month and have just a few little questions.
    1) is the burgess food pellets good enough? I see the one with mint a lot. Or is there something around that price range that’s better??
    2) hay! Has anyone got experience with the haybox? I see them advertised a lot and I’m thinking of using their hay for piggies ☺️ if any other hay supplier are better I’d love to know ! ☺️

    • @saturnthemirrorball
      @saturnthemirrorball 4 месяца назад

      little late, but burgess is fine! some people don’t like to feed it as they get older (since it has alfalfa hay in it, but it’s not that much & it’s not really that dangerous for them) but I’m sure it’s fine for young piggies! You can always look around though if you have concerns. I haven’t used haybox yet, but I am looking into it. Some people have said their quality has declined in the past months but some others say it’s fine, so it’s a bit of a mixed bag. There’s lots of other hay subscriptions though, like happy hay co which I’ve heard good things about. Hope this helps!!

    Hi! I wanted to ask a question, is a 2x5 C&C cage too Big for 2 female Guinea pigs? 🤔Today I was out looking at Guinea pigs, and the breeder said that it was very big and it would probably be better if I made it smaller (the Guinea pigs are 4 and 6 weeks old). I initially bought a 2x4 but I got extra grids and I thought the bigger the better, but now I’m unsure. Should I make it smaller? And the breeder said I shouldn’t buy any toys for the Guinea pigs too which made me confused.

      It is not ideal... And what if she decides she doesn't like them at all... Your piggie would have to be alone forever? 😕 Go to a pet shop (or better local guinea pig rescue where they'll help you and be there for ongoing support) and your mum will have to decide and commit to getting two or none 👍. One guinea pig is a lonely guinea pig.

      I would recommend using a local guinea pig rescue, because if you have a male piggie, they can be more difficult to bond with another male. Females are often easier to bond. A local rescue will know what is best and provide ongoing support, whereas, as Sarah explains pet shops easily mis diagnose the sex of a guinea pig - and the last thing you want is a male and a female. Alternatively a local rescue may have a neutered boar, which could be bonded with a female. I have two females and a neutered boar
