Ginja, I wish I could get that granular humic you have available in your area (forget the store name..) looks like a good product for a great price compared to anything Ive found.
You can find it here for dirt cheap ;) . We are pretty fortunate. I would call some of the local lawn care guys and see if they have a source. It's fast becoming a normal product.
GINGA NATION , 5 STEPS JUST WHAT THE GINGA ORDERED , had same issue in my yard the way my home faces with the SUN , INTRODUCED some CREEPING RED FESCUE , works good with SHADE , GINGA IS ON POINT 🤺☝️
Ginja, kinda late in the season to do anything. I have a question. I mowed my lawn last week. Mowed it short because the cold is coming fast in Central Wisconsin. Anyway, after mowing (mulching), I went over it with a rack to pick up some clumps that were left behind. As I was racking, I noticed a lot of the grass was laying down and didn't get cut. I was racking blades that were 4-5 inches long. How do I get an even cut on all my yard? I have a lot of weeds which I'm going to deal with next year.
Generally has to do with 1 of 2 things or both. 1 the mower suction is having a difficult time (clean the mower and the bag), or the ground isn't very level and you'd want to level the soil.
This video really helped me. I have been watching for 2years. This year I reduced my watering days. I am watering deeper and less often. I still have shallow roots and a debris problem. I think I will order the Sun Joe since I can't find a power raking service here in Tooele. Can you offer some advice on fall and spring overseeding? I'm concerned with the seed and new grass adapting to my fertilizers. I currently run IFA 4 step with 2 applications or humic.
Ground temps need to be 50 to 65 degrees for two weeks is the general rule of thumb. You need to keep the seed damp for 2 to 4 weeks min for Kentucky bluegrass, which is the primary grass we have in Utah and slc county.
Great videos!! I find that it’s tough to diagnose fungus issues in a lawn. How do u identify fungus? By looking at the grass blade? Any info is appreciated! Thanks for the great content!
Ginja, got a question for you. I overseeded my back yard with Scotts KBG seed about 8 days ago (living in south jersey) and 2 days ago I found grubs in a couple spots. Am I able to safely apply a pest control product before the seed germinates? I got a product that kills on contact but haven’t spread it yet. Also I spread the sta-green starter fertilizer last night. When I first over seeded I didn’t want to boost too much growth of the existing grass and cause the new seed to be too shaded. Also possibly found in the front yard. Overseeded with a blend a month and a half ado and have mowed at least 4-5 times with good solid growth. Is the pest control safe to use in the front as well? Also side note, the back yard is about 7500 square feet and has a septic drain field right smack in the middle that was replaced last December.
I'd hit it with a curative and preventive insecticide. It doesn't cause much of an issue if any with new seed development. best of luck to you. Good to hear that you're out on the lawn doing the work.
Another great video Ginja. Does Perennial Ryegrass perform better in the shaded and high traffic areas than the RTF from Barenbrug. If so, will the rye grass blend with the RTF. Thanks for the info
In my opinion it does better in the shade only by a small margin. I like the rtf better but the areas jef has is loaded with shade and the perennial rye blends better with kbg
Hi Ginja! Thanks for the great info! I am in upstste NY and have creeping bentgrass patches. I noticed that a hard rake rips it up about 50-60%. Also Heard that tenacity kills it. How do I get rid of it other than nuking with roundup? Thanks!
Tenacity or acclaim ii is your best bet. tenacity being the cheapest option. be sure the grass you like is on the list of non-target species before you apply
Is that KBG in the front yard with necrotic ring spot? Also, maybe a third option for the concrete area is to landscape around it. As always, an informative lawn diagnosis.

I find that bluegrass can take up to 3 to 5 weeks before it completes its germination process fully. During the hot months I was 1.75 to 2" per week to keep up with evaporation. You want 6" to 8" of water saturation. do not water more than 3x to 4x per week. Overwatering will cause fungal issues fast with kbg. I recommend using .5lbs of N per 1000 sq ft out the gates to give kbg a good kick start in the spring. You can back down to .25 lbs of N per 1000 sq ft or less every 4 weeks and it does awesome.
