I pretty much agree with all that you have said. Multitool pliers, even the full-sized ones, and any of the other tools that they contain, are great for smaller occasional jobs, but there are many tasks where a "real" dedicated plier or screwdriver or wrench is what is needed. The multitool can often save me some time, or the steps needed to fetch my tool bag, but they certainly can't replace that tool bag. Choosing the appropriate tool for a given job is an important skill.

I have not had a Leatherman tool for over 10 years, had one at work in my desk & when I left I gave it to a colleague. I have the Deluxe Tinker & the Motorist as my 2 Home tool kits on my computer table. Both have the same pliers & I used both recently to undo the locking nuts that had rusted on a elderly neighbors small dining room trolley. The pliers work quite well on small items but I can't see them as being large enough & strong enough to handle large tasks.

I agree. I classify a Victorinox SAK as a multitool. It just comes in a pocketknife form factor rather than a folded-pliers form factor. Technically, a SAK is a multitool as it has multiple tools.
I have always thought of Victorinox’s pliers as heavy duty tweezers which they work well as. I have a Special Mechanic model which is only two layers thick, which is comfortable in my old hand.
You mentioned using these to cut guitar strings. I specifically use the PS4 Squirt to tighten tuner nuts. Perfect size for that, and I typically keep the PS4 in my Martin gigbag for that reason.

Mostly because the victorinox ones makes you push with only your thumb, and if you are holding something with them all the weight is on your thumb. On regular pliers you mainly squeeze with your grip, and the leatherman (and similar style) much more mimic that.
I recently purchased a Swisschamp as none of my other SAKs have pliers, metal file or inline Phillips. I also own a LM Squirt PS4 (retired since the scissors broke) and a Nextool Flagship Mini. The VIc pliers head is about the same size and thickness as those 2 but the tips on them are a bit longer. However as you say when using the pliers the Victorinox fills the whole hand, whereas with the Squirt you are trying to hold them with the tips of 2 fingers and a thumb. Same applies to Gerber Dime, Nextool Flagship Mini and other pliers based keychain multitools. With the Victorinox pliers you have more control, more reach, and more leverage if force is not applied sideways, which you shouldn't do with any multitool pliers. Also you can squeeze the Vic pliers as hard as you like without any risk of them breaking, whereas with the LM etc. the handles start to flex inwards. On any folding multitool pliers like those, whether a Squirt or a Surge, they are only ever as strong as the weakest point, which is the pivots connecting the plier head to the handles.

great idea, using it to pull stuff out the oven, and SAK does afford greater distance. also, the SAK pliers are sharper such that they're almost like large tweezers.
I have gradually gotten the hang of adding video music/background music to my videos. I think if you check out some of the other videos I have you’ll find the sound mixing is a little more equals out

Absolutely! I have the Angler and Swiss Champ both have excellent precision pliers for delicate tasks , electronics , radio and PC repairs in that respect they are 1st class . I have the squirt on my house/van keys , so a bit more capable, not quite so precision, but save the day many times . I tend to pair my Angler (with screwdriver/ can opener mod )with 125 cobra Knipex waterpump wrench, which is only 5 inches very pocket-sized and way more capable than even the biggest multitool.

@@simonh6371 I did say the Victorinox pliers was 'excellent precision pliers ' and the leatherman pliers was 'not quite so precise ' ! But I do think the leatherman squirt pliers has a bit more torque capable. That's my experience.
@@robduncan599 Really you shouldn't torque on any multitool or other articulated pliers, the pivot connecting the head to the handles is the weakest point on them. I know if you bear down on the Squirt pliers the handles start to flex, whereas with the Vic pliers this cannot happen. But I think a lot of people just get it into their head that Leatherman = rugged lol.
