  • Looking across to Woolston from Ocean Village and right in front firstly you can see the slipway where once a Floating Bridge which carried vehicles and passengers left to cross the river, and just left of the road Bridge was a factory where Spitfire aircraft were once built, as the camera starts to pan to the right of the bridge you see a vast empty space which looks like a beach is where Vosper Thornycroft once had a shipyard where they built ships and still by the main gate to the yard is a pub called The Victoria Inn. To the very right as the camera pans near the end you see a jetty which is know locally as Woolston or Weston jetty.

Hi Steve, nice video and thanks for sharing. I used to visit Woolston between 1960 and 1970. I have fond memories of the floating bridge and we used to travel across the river when I was a kid of about 10 years old. I`m from Brum but my Gran used to live in one of the prefabs just off the high street in Woolston

Well I never knew it was known as oil jetty too all I knew it was known as weston jetty and used to pump sewerage through into ships that collected it, thank you for the info.

the jetty is also known as the oil jetty as it once was used to pump oil down it for the ships. then used for sewerage.
