I enjoyed this video. I have a true neutral undertone and have found it best (as you stated) to not go too far in one direction or the other. Hence the description ‘neutral’ 😊 I am constantly mixing. I think it would be really interesting to see half of your face done with the correct undertones and the other half with the incorrect undertones.
Well, this new palette certainly brings out golden highlights in your hair. And I think your eyes are quite pretty in this sunset combination. But alas, that pesky line of demarcation between your face and neck is very obvious here, and illustrates your point perfectly. Thank you for being such a good sport and going waaaaay out of your comfort zone! 🧡💛🤎 😉
Hi, Sue--I think I'm actually O.K. with warm colors in my eye look, but usually like to mix them with some cool tones! I think I literally physically shrank back when I picked up some of those very warm toned colors lol.
Good Morning, Elise! Thank you for taking one for the team. 😂 I see what you mean with using colors that don’t match your skin tone. It really does make a difference. I can’t wear orange at all, but my friend Cindy has a deeper, warmer skin tone and looks stunning in the color. Thanks for a fun video.
Thanks, Paula--and I appreciated your analogy of taking one for the team! lol. I love the color orange, but definitely can't wear it unless it's an extremely white orange . . . but even then . . .
Honestly, I didn't think today's look was all that bad...only after seeing all your previous looks with the correct colors did I see what a difference it makes! Great (and clever) demonstration, Elise!
I smiled when you talked about your yellow wall color. In my house, most of the rooms are painted a very warm, butter yellow. I get frequent comments from visitors about how much they love the color! I am a very warm-toned individual. Both my wardrobe and the colors in my home reflect my warm undertone. I think that most of us unconsciously gravitate toward colors that look good on us.
Hi, Kathy--It sounds like you've done a wonderful job of surrounding yourself--and wearing--colors you love and that are most flattering on you. That makes such a wonderful difference in our lives. In fact I just filmed a video where I talked about color being so important in my life (as well as 6 other things--video will be coming in October). We just had to totally repaint a new place we moved into and I'm just so glad that my husband and I agreed on the colors we wanted.
Hi Elise! This was very informative and definitely proved your point with the completed look. It was also quite comical to me, although it wasn’t meant to be.😂 Thanks for doing this for us. I’m neutral so I would probably love the foundation. As for my eyes, I lean toward cool toned shades but when I started adding a bit of warmth it made so much of a difference. I felt like you did, dreading to do it but was just playing with an eyeshadow palette. I lean slightly toward warmer lipsticks as pinks wash out my lips which are slightly darker naturally. For blush I like darker pinks, mauves and peach. Thanks again for this wonderful video, even though it pained you somewhat to do it! You’re the best!
Hi, Lisa--I'm so glad you felt it was informative and proved my point . . . AND that it was comical. I love that. I think combining warm and cool tones for eyeshadow is absolutely lovely and it's pretty much my referred way to go. With eye shadow it's really more about complementary colors for our eye color which then really make our eye color pop. It sounds like you've found the perfect colors that work beautifully for you. That's what it's all about. Sending warm wishes your way, my friend.
The look improved a lot when you changed to gold jewelry and the warm beige top! However, as a cool-toned lady, myself, I fully understand your discomfort with all these warm shades!
Perhaps this looked worse in person Elise, but on the screen I thought you looked very pretty in these colours! All except for the brows of course 🤣. I particularly liked the lipstick shades, prior to the gloss.
Good morning, Mary Ann--It's always such a day brightener to hear from you. So glad you found the video helpful. But I have to say I had to really push myself to do it! Wishing you a blessed weekend as well, my friend.
Élise, I think you can wear some of the slightly warmer colors. I like the lipstick color on you. I think you can wear pinky peach colors that lean to the cool side. ( not a garish orange or warm yellow, but softer more neutral warm colors can look very good in you) I think some of the very cool colors can look harsh. Bottom line, you are beautiful and know how to apply makeup, so you look good in most colors.
Hi--You are so kind to say so! I do love pinky peach tones so I may have to stretch myself outside my comfort zone and give them more of a try! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
Hi Elise! You showed up in my feed today and I’m enjoying your channel very much. Our channel missions are very similar. Wonderful tips! I learned a lot. Mona
Thanks for taking one for the team! I have warm to neutral undertones, but to be honest, I don’t look best in coopers or bronzes. I look far better in peach.
Peach is such a beautifully flattering color on warm and neutral undertones and I'm so glad it works so well for you. We always have to go with what really works for us. Not all colors in our color palette are equally flattering for sure.
Good morning Elise, well this video made my day. I feel so much better now after watching you try on all the wrong colours. What a great idea!! I do have a bit of neutral in my skin but I could not wear most of the colours you chose & I too love my raspberries and pinks so much better. Wonderful video, thank you so much 🤩
Hi, Pam--I'm so glad you enjoyed it. My actual physical reaction to some of those colors surprised me. Although I'm comfortable wearing some warm tones mixed with cool tones in my eyeshadow (e.g. I love combining a touch or orange with blue, for example), going with those warm colors by themselves was definitely a painful process. I'm so glad that as a fellow pink and raspberry lover you understand! All my best to you, Pam.
As a neutral leaning cool I cannot wear warm blushes or bronzer and it took me a lifetime to learn that...I blame my mom for convincing me I was an Autumn back in the day
Hi and welcome! Oh my goodness--and I bet you were never particularly fond of those autumn colors. My mom wanted to buy me a camel colored coat when I was young, but I was never drawn to that color and luckily she didn't force it. So often I think what we're drawn to are the colors that work really well for us. Glad you're now wearing the colors you love.
Remember when I told yo7 i fell backwards down the step and needed surgery on my right wrist? Well it gets better. I spent my birthday in the hospita. I couldn't take the pain in my ribs and neck, went through some tests and I broke my ribs and broke my neck. They gave me 2 days worth of lame pain killets. Oh yea that helped a lot. Beside the agonizing pain I'm in somewhat good spirits. I guess dressed ñice everyday, i do my hair😁 and puts lots of makeup on. Andrea Matillano is sending me a little something because of all thesuffering. I'm watching your video again. It was that good
Sherry--Oh my heavens, woman--what you've been through! Thanks goodness you went back to the hospital to get checked out. I can't even begin to imagine the agonizing pain you must be going through. I'm so, so sorry. It sounds like it's going to take awhile to get back to full strength again, but you're one strong, powerful woman who I know will come through this with flying colors. And I love to hear how you're still getting dressed and putting your makeup on. It's wo wonderful that you're doing these things to brighten your mood. You are in my thoughts and prayers every day! Hang in there. We're all rooting for you.
This may sound condescending or unfeeling, but thank God you were in pain!! As an RN, I did not infrequently have patients who'd found out accidentally that they'd broken something quite important, because they simply had no discomfort whatsoever. (Including my father in law, who broke his neck but had no pain at all so kept taking his neck brace off. It's a miracle he didn't end up a quadriplegic.)
What an excellent idea for a video! Tbh i couldnt figure out why you looked so washed out until you pointed out the eyebrow color. I have to say that i didnt really see how much the wrong toned makeup could wash one out, until i saw all the makeup in place. I know the theory, of course, but your video was pretty startling!! I have a neutral skin tone so i can use most colors, but I'm a Swedish ash blonde sobi have to be careful that i dont use colors that are too strong. (Except lipsticks).
Hi, Johanna--I hadn't seen the video for a few weeks and when I looked at the first part again I was indeed startled by that brow color. I felt like I was looking at a totally different person lol. Ahh, a neutral skin tone give you so many wonderful options! It sounds like you've found the perfect balance of colors!
Hi, Barbara--I'm so glad you enjoyed the video-and I so appreciate your letting me know. Thank you! With my coloring, I always need to go with an ash brown hair color.
That's so sweet of you to say, Sherry. But I have to admit that I certainly don't feel my best wearing these colors. If you're open to it, could you drop me a quick email so I can respond to you privately? Thanks! boomerandbeyondbeauty@gmail.com
Elise, I have a cool undertone and blue eyes. It’s my understanding that warm shades such as orange and copper make my eyes pop. I’ve been using those in my crease area. Are those choices not the best for me in view of my cool undertone? Thanks, Roberta
Hi, Bert ( I apologize if I'm getting this wrong . . . do you prefer Bertie?) You know, eyes are a whole different story. Complementary colors definitely make our eye color pop, so you're right on track with warm shades such as orange and copper on your blue eyes. It's with our blush, lipstick and foundation that coordinating with the undertone of our skin is far more important.
My veins turn green and blue. For a while the were green. Then after a couple weeks they turned blue and stayed that way then green. I heard that means you're neutral and you can wear sikver and gold
Hi, Sherry--Yes, you are a very fortunate "neutral" so you can wear both warm and cool toned colors beautifully--just not the extreme versions of those colors!
I know what you mean about envying those who can wear colors that do not flatter us. Way back in elementary school, i realized that the "girly" colors the other kids wore - blue-based pinks and lavenders - looked terrible on me. I did not understand why when I was 10. I had light brown hair (with gold and red highlights) and very fair skin. I looked around the room and saw other girls who had what I thought was similar coloring look great in those pretty colors. At the time, I just could not understand why the colors looked so good on the other girls and so bad on me! By the time I was a teenager, I had figured out what colors actually flattered me. My brown hair is very warm, thus the almost metallic gold and red highlights. My ivory skin has obvious peachy/yellow tones. My hazel eyes are a mix of very warm olive green and golden brown. My best colors are warm golden yellows, light oranges, tomato reds, warm Kelly green, camel, milk chocolates, and clear rusts. The makeup that looks so unlike you works really nicely for me!
Hi, Kathy--Thanks so much for sharing this story. Wow, it's impressive that at the age of 10 you realized that those colors looked terrible on you. I think at that age I was totally oblivious except I knew I didn't want a camel colored coat! You're so fortunate that you figured this out as a teenager. I think it was Carole Jackson's Color Me Beautiful book that did it for me--and I was in my 30s! lol
