Nice for the price either way, but the Flight is bit nicer. If you’re on a tight budget and buy the Donner, you can sand down the bridge a bit if the action is too high for free. You can put new Aquila nylgut strings on it for $4 and a little time. Hemostats work well for pull-through string changes.
I have a concert DUC-100 too. It seemed like the strings were too high by the 5th-6th frets. I mean what do I know, being a novice that could barely play a D chord at the time, but my calipers said they were on the high end. I took out the saddle and filed it down Felt better with lower strings. I agree about the volume. Mine doesn't like being loud. But I paid $60 USD several years ago.
@@AnarchyInTheUkuleleTV I can fix stuff and know when it doesn't feel right, but still a beginner musician. I will buy my next uke at the store and get one that feels good..
My first ukulele was an Amazon purchase: the Donner DUT-3 full laminate (spruce top with mahogany back and sides) for which I paid just under £43 at the time. It's still one of my main instruments. Whilst the lasered sun is not to my taste, the sound and the bass response are fabulous. I think I'd stay away from the absolute cheapest painted Donners and the plastic models. These laminate models though are a safe bet if you're on a budget!
Great honest review thanks. I ordered the Duc100 when on special offer for £24 and what arrived was a Duc400. Why I don't know but must admit it seems great although I have only been playing for 2 years and am a slow learner but have a lot of fun. I think it is a solid top and traditional bridge. Mine arrived with good set up however on a couple of my ukuleles both saddle and nut have needed adjusting which as a retired engineer I have managed to do. Only just found your channel so will be watching your previous reviews. Thanks and sorry for waffling on.
Never apologise for waffling on, we are the champions of waffling (as you'll see if you watch other videos!)! Glad you liked the review and enjoy your Donner too - it's all about the having fun!
This was one of our very early videos, and have learned since that people actually want to hear the ukuleles we review (who knew?!) Maybe we'll revisit some of our older reviews at some point :)

You sound like you were pretty competent for a novice Harry! Do you still play it?

We totally agree with you! We keep doing blind tests and the Donner keeps winning because of the sound.

"You're gonna put it out of tune like that."
"I simply caressed it."
"Yeah, exactly" 🤣
Very heavy handed caresser xD
Maybe play it (more?)?
