    I cant remember which channel it was but he was the only one saying HDR is actually good after the update. I was so confused when people were saying RDR2s HDR was bad still after the update ( btw this update is old ). So many were saying black didnt exist at all but all my tools and the channel I was watching was showing the same 0 nits as you got, my highlights hit the correct 1000 nits my monitor produced as well. And the game wasnt washed out like crazy. And agreed, the game is literally top tier in every regard, I 100% and plat it on PS4 and I had over 600 hrs before stopping on the console version. I got it on PC as I got myself an AW3423DW and wanted to experience RDR2 in HDR with higher FPS and Ultrawide, modded the cutscenes to work in UW and haven't got back. Its an incredible experience.

    I just tried it and it's the same with some minor improvements on clipping.The main issue is that everytime the HDR is turned on, the colors get washed out,
    There was a point however during my playthrough (3-4 months ago I believe) where HDR worked perfectly, the colors didn't get washed out and it was absolutely stunning while I experienced it, then it got an update and reverted back to the previous washed out colors. Perhaps different monitors have different issues

    I have just been using RTX HDR almost exclusively since Nvidia released it. Very few games in my experience have a good native HDR implementation. RTX HDR is just to nice given how easy it is to set up. I play just as many old games as I do new and simply toggling RTX HDR and having almost my entire library look great is worth the performance cost especially since I always use VRR over BFI.

    • @jax6815

      Using only SMAA for anti aliasing in my experience with RDR2 fixed most of my problems with the games blurriness. It also hurts performance though. For me though Rdr2 is a 60fps target so I have tons of headroom to achieve that even with MSAA and RTX HDR on.

      So you prefer rtx HDR in rdr2 than native HDR or auto HDR trick ?

    • @jax6815
      @jax6815 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ppn7 It depends on the native HDR implementation. I do prefer RTX HDR to Auto HDR since Auto HDR raises black levels, supports less than half the games RTX HDR supports and does not pop like RTX HDR does. For Native HDR I’d have to compare them side by side but from my experience RTX HDR has always provided a great HDR picture at the cost of around 2% performance. I’ve heard people say some Native games are more accurate. I have never experienced this but I don’t have the time to go through each game to find this out. I generally trust Nvidia more when it comes to HDR than majority of these devs that can’t even get black levels right.

Super saturated/vibrant colors and 1000 nits on any highlight. They expect the same experience they get in the big box stores. I was the same way. On the theater topic I really only go for imax laser. Dolby theater is apparently good but it's not available where I am and the screens are only scope ratio.
    (Expessaly full frame imax as they literally don't have those for home release. 1.4:1 aspect ratio with dual 4k laser projectors)
    If the movie gets a imax home release it is just cropped to 16×9 which is more wide then even liemax theaters. Liemax ratio is 1.9:1
    I'll also go out for imax film. But the prospect is a bit more iffy. Giving up maximum brightness for way more detail.
    Oppenheimer (film imax), dune 2 (laser full frame), tenet (film imax), deadpool &Wolverine (liemax 3d, liemax ratio only during frame breaks)
    That has been most of my 2023+2024 watching otherwise a good home theater is higher quality than most theaters anyway so whats the point :(.
    Notable mention for good theater experience as well to
    avatar 2 in liemax laser 3d and "high" framerate),
    Dune imax laser.
    Aside from imax film, just recently did I find some laser theaters arround me there not advertised as such so you have to find information from 3rd party's and go abit out of your way to the correct theater.

      I did make a mistake some dolby theater screens can be 1.85:1 ratio (there also laser). There audio solution is apparently a tad better then the "new"/laser imax both have like 15+ channels.
      As for avatar 2 oddly I am not super bothered by frame rate for watching media to a larger extent than most. But everybody I was with said it was very noticeable it's frame rate is 2x normal so 48fps.
      I beleve hardcore henry is also 60fps but it's also shot completely in first person, you'll need to get a original not a reencode though.

Any difference you see in favor of Native being more colorful is because it might show more saturation in colors that are not the maximum saturation. However if you alt+tab, it goes into borderless mode and it turns back to sdr. Now i can alt+enter and get back into full screen hdr but any way to keep full screen when alt+tabbing?
    Using Prefer Layered on DXGI Swapchain doesnt fix it.

      warm 50 is generally the reference to use as movies are filmed with that in mind.

      HDR is an absolute, 100% accuracy is the goal. We don't have any display that can do that yet but at least we can try to get the white balance as close to accurate as possible.
      For me however, I prefer a warmer color temperature for my eyes, because it's more relaxing, easier, less eye strain.

    It's impossible to fix HDR for RDR2 because the developers control it completely. Turn your HDR on, go inside any building at any time (day or night) then go back outside. For whatever reason, the HDR works perfectly when you are inside and if you pay attention you can literally see it getting screwed up in real time when you walk outside. From inside, the days look bright and the nights look dark, but as soon as you are outside nights become too bright and days become too dark. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do.

      There's some dynamic tone mapping going on, they do that on many games, it's like adjusting exposure on a camera

    • @MediaBrad
      @MediaBrad 2 месяца назад +1

      Is that perhaps auto exposure messing up? If you're using the newer dlss versions, you need to use dlss tweaks and force auto exposure for this game and some other pre 3.1 dlss games.

    • @The_0ne504
      @The_0ne504 2 месяца назад +2

      That sounds like the game replicating auto exposure on a camera. If it's dark then suddenly gets bright, the camera has to adjust. Same thing happens with your eyes when you walk outside on a sunny day although it's just slower.

      Thats normal and not broken at all. Its just auto exposure doing its thing.
