That's because "prayers", for most Canadians and especially Quebequers in general, are utterly useless. They appreciate the thought, but at the end of the day, there are a dozens other ways to better help with the situation. So, thank you for putting your hands together and saying words in thin air in your room wherever you live, but if you actually want to help, there are other... better... ways. So thumbs up for the thought, but yea, ultimately, it didn't help.
I'm a Canadian who spends half of my time in Thailand. I love both countries, and feel at home in both. Canada functions so much better and is so much safer and more pleasant than a few other countries that most expats in Thailand are escaping from. The only issues for me really are cost and winter. I could be happy in either place. Love your videos!!
Hey, thanks for making this wonderful content about my city. I just love your energy and I'm so glad you guys had a good time here. As you point out in the video, yes the cost of living has indeed exploded here with inflation, and even then it's not as bad as in Toronto or Vancouver. Hopefully the situation gets back to normal sooner rather than later. Btw that 30$ poutine is a total scam hopefully it was good at least.
Great start to the Canada series. Right now I am casting my vote for Note as Husbund of the Year for the "Home is where the heart is" comment. What a profound and true statement. It's not where you are as much as who you share your experiences with and we are lucky enough to go along with you two on your journey.
I will say I have been following your videos for going on two years now. I have started going back to the very beginning but it's going to take me a little time to catch up but I thoroughly enjoy them. I love watching you both as husband and wife. You're absolutely wonderful together and you just make me feel like I'm right there with you all no matter where you are in the world. Thank you so much for sharing and the food. The places the people wonderful and my country we say. God bless you ❤️
Note, your mother sent me this link. I’m an old friend of her when she had Joys Elephant Camp back in 2003. So cool to see you and Flo. Need to go visit Pai again, it’s been a long time since we’ve been back. Pai was so cool back then. Now I see Mini Bus’s now going to Pai. 1st time in 2002 we took a Songtau. Loved the Hot Spring pool your mother had! Happy Trails, Gary
Thanks for showing us Montreal. Cost of living has gone up all over the world post COVID plus the ongoing Ukraine invasion 😢 I kinda agree with Note that home is where the heart is.
Nice video of my hometown. I lived 12 years in Asia so I agree, home is where your heart is 😅 Next to Kem Koba (great ice cream and great story behind that shop) was another classic… Wilensky. Serving beef salami sandwiches since 1932… well, it started as a depanneur, then a hair salon in the corner, then a restaurant and serving the same sandwiches from the same grill for 70 years. Anyhow… so many institutions here. Hope you enjoyed the many pedestrian streets and the Jean Talon market ! Happy travel !
Hey from France, this must be my first on your channel, being out of Canada since 1983. Thank you for the memories, of me living in Montreal from 1962 - 1969 and Vancouver 1969 - 1977 & 1982 - 1983.. I still feel like I'm Canadian.. I'll be checking your posts
Yeah people don't realize that the cheese curds are only supposed to be like 5% melted in a poutine. The whole point of it is to have the squeaky bite and chewy texture. Definitely not fully melted. When I see a poutine and the cheese is all melted (even if it is made with cheese curds) I turn it away and say, I don't want these disco fries.
the only real canadian city of 400 years , the other cities are a copy of any average USA city , same culture , same food, same language , same car culture .... is a walkable city with best public transport (metro, biking ) , architecture, food, we speak both official languages of Canada , UNESCO design city , fashion, safe, best night life and the city never sleep like NYC.
Loved your talk on feeling at home. Annie and I have been many years teaching in S E Asia and still return every winter as we too feel at home in Thailand and Canada. Note is right , home is where the heart is especially if your sweetie is with you. ❤️
Such a nice video, very relaxing. I grew up on Fairmount bagels but have since leaned more towards St-Viateur bagels. Both are good but I agree with your ratings, your spot on.
Now we are in Montreal (06.04.24) we fall in love this town, very clean and cosmopolitan also Japanese+French food is excellence, but we can't find a good Thai food jet, we hope soon we'll it.
Welcome Flora And Note to your 1ST visit to Montreal. It has Ben on my bucket list for a long time, specially Chinatown. Absolutely love cheese bagels. I could tell after both of your 1ST bites YUM YUM. Outstanding $$. Super surprised 9 out of 10. Love seeing the older houses with the front staircases. Line wrapped around the corner for Fairmount that Note gives an 8.5, the lady seemed surprised in the white top. Note was saying run to catch the train. Poutinefest is a must for me, delicious. Duck was almost $$30US. Absolutely Loved Every Second.
Bienvenue à Montréal! in french. The most taxed province of Canada in all of North America everything is expensive. I live in the northern suburbs of Montreal and I can tell you that me and my wife will live in Thailand for our retirement in a few years. Canada is beautiful!....but where the cost of living is very expensive compared to salaries!! Nice video thank you !!
Greetings from YYC. Welcome home, so enjoyed your visit to Montreal, absoutely love that city, been there many times on my way to the Martimes. Enjoy your travels...
I been to Montreal before, and it is a very beautiful city. Bagel area is nice and laid back. Flora and Note I hope you both do a Toronto tour as well. Maybe a Vancouver one in the future. Much love to the both of you my favorite RUclipsrs. The Nepal series was classic from you both Flora and Note.
Welcome back home to Canada Flora and Note!!! I love Montreal and visit at least once a year. I hope you can make it to my city of Ottawa. I look forward to more of your Canada series. I agree with Note that Canada is beautiful in the summer, but this summer has been unusual with tornadoes, heavy rain and smoke from the wildfires!
What has changed the most is the cost! I went home for the first time in almost 7 years, and was shocked how expensive everything was. I left for the adventure, living and traveling the world with my girlfriend. Now, I legitimately would not be able to afford daily life back home in Halifax, and ESPECIALLY not in Toronto where we used to live. 😰 We REALLY want to go back and explore Canada a bit more though. And you guys make us want to re-visit Montreal even more. Best bagels ever. 🤤
@@FloraandNote We live in Budapest, but will be going back to SE Asia soon. We're going to have the opposite effect! Can't wait for $2 meals. 😃 Looking forward to seeing what you guys get up to in Canada! 🇨🇦
I like the ones from Fairmount too. I used to pick up a few of them after night club when I was studying at McGill University in Montreal. Oh, try the Pina Colada flavor one.
Prices now in Québec are just insane. Crazy rent (1,400$ for a 1 bedroom) food inflation 40% in the last 3 years, and now workers are crazy about tips, suggesting often up to 28%. I do my mandatory 6 months here but I am more than happy to spend winters away.
That's awesome! We started following you guys, researching SE Asia before coming here, as we were sitting at home, IN CALGARY! Too cool you guys are from the same place, doing the same adventures! Love the content, and cool to see you guys back in CA! 🙌🙂
Those outside staircases scare the hell out of me. I even decided not to buy a particular apartment just because I would have had to walk up one of those staircases hahaha.
your tour of Montreal brought back my memories of the city...fairmount bagel was much better tasting to me too...also the crew collective cafe is such a cool place to have a coffee...the chinatown in montreal while small is quite nice to walk around on the way to Old Montreal.
Looks like you guys are catching some great weather. We were in Vancouver two weeks ago it was lovely. I noticed Note's sesame seed bagel quickly become Flora's after one bite. Lol. Happy wife, happy life!

Don’t forget those Sandwiches need to have a cold slaw and a cherry coke. Don’t mess around with Coke or Pepsi, it’s not a real experience. Trust me, I’d try! Enjoy your stay!

Welcome home!!! Even though I've been to Montreal, you guys are always teaching new things. Love your videos, I hope your world viewers can enjoy Canada like we do. Sadly, Canada is pricy (like US, definitely not asia). But you guys will make it work to find deals. Can't wait to see the east coast and find your way back west to Calgary (home town) and Vancouver.
Well parts of Asia like Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei are WAY, WAY, WAY more expensive than Canada and the US. Calgary is super inexpensive compared to large Asian cities where the demand far outweighs the supply of housing. Singapore is literally the most expensive city on earth.
@@HeatherLewis213 Yes, I'm well aware, but thanks. I was speaking to the countries they've visited on their VLOGs and how they like to highlight inexpensive deals. Normally things convert to super cheap like
I live in Montreal and I just came back from a small trip to New York City and wow, things have gotten very expensive there. Not too long ago, the US seemed to be cheaper but now everything is more expensive, especially if you consider the exchange rate. NYC has also gotten dirtier and there's urine smell almost everywhere.
You shouldn't justify high taxes! Most of the money goes into the pockets of the elite! Also the French they speak in Quebec is an old version that was brought over when the French first arrived. Some of them later went down to New Orleans to live. (The French Quarter) I think the language in France is a more modern version now.
Welcome home, guys!! Was wondering what would you find interesting and beautiful in Montreal. Because when you live in a city, you get used to it and don't find anything special of it. My dream is to visit Koh Samui one day! Very much enjoy all your videos.
Canada did change in the past 5 years but I think most places did. Covid caused a big shake up related to social structures like work where a lot of people are disengaging from the work drone culture. At the same time we have some more active extremists on the far right than we used to. Add to that economic instability causing a flaring inflation and most people feel the pinch. At the same time I get the feeling that most people are more understanding of other people's difficulties and plights, more empathic maybe? Though people are more tired and more anxious making them more unstable emotionally and more isolated. Weirdly I think despite an exacerbated introvert wave, people are more oppen to be approched maybe less forward but more craving for human contacts at the same time? I'm not sure how to say all of this. I think it is reflected in politic at least in Quebec, political parties that used to be more pro corporations are adopting a discourse at least on the surface about helping the poors get through the hard time, but at the same time we hear more far right extremists clamouring for insanities more openly and without shame, emboldened by the USA far right parties going mainstream in the past 10 years. Sociopolitical instability generate extremes, extreme kindness and extreme hate.
Hi Flora and Note! Hope you guys are well. How was the weather in Montreal right now? Because I’ll be going there in two weeks so wanted to packs accordingly, thanks ❤😅
