I’m 77 yrs old and remember my mom baking these,she used to bake them at a very low temp (gas stove),at 175 degrees,but can’t remember for how long.I used ur recipe and baked them at 350 for 30 mins.Unfortunately they all burned.The recipe was very easy,but the time and temp did not work out for me. Will try again at a lower temp.
I made 3 batches in 1 n it turned out like that too. I didn't want my daughter to see that I wasted all those ingredients so I threw about 2 ½ batches of the dough. BUT the cookies came out alright.
Iam worried about what specialist biochemicals( dr barry sears) says, shorthening contains hidrogen to make oíl to become white fat, and this is the worst for human health.
I agree I wouldn’t recommend eating this everyday or eating all of then yourself. This is like I said for a gathering and moderation is key. In the end it’s up to your discretion to decide.
I made these last year and these have become my go to recipe, especially for Christmas. Just made a batch again today!🩷

@@annalara9427 yes do try at a Lower temp 300 perhaps! I do watch them to make sure they don’t burn check every 15 min!
Do you think we can just shape them into little balls by hand if theres no cookie cutter ? Or does the dough have to be rolled ?
I’m worried the middle wouldn’t get cooked but you can roll into balls and press down with palm? That should work

Lard is actually slightly healthier and is the traditional way. I'd suggest it if you don't have any religious or dietary restrictions.
