  • A historic landmark in Raleigh is back open for people to enjoy. The Historic Allan Herschell Carousel at John Chavis Memorial Park is back in operation after closing seven months ago for repairs. As new generations go for a ride, the carousel also tells a story about the city's past. The City of Raleigh bought the carousel in 1937, when they built Chavis Park. It served as a place where African Americans could enjoy it, while other areas had limited access because of segregation.
