My coolant level is low. I bought some coolant for my 03 Tahoe and I’m just wondering, can I just top it off? It still looks good so I don’t think I need to drain any but I’m in my 20’s and still learning.
Hello Christian, these antifreeze companies say their coolants can last up to 5 yrs or 100,000 miles. Coolant can turn acidic from cycling from hot to cool. I change mine out every three years. Antifreeze is much cheaper than having problems like a leaking heater core which is a very labor intensive/expensive repair. I think it wise to air on the side of caution. One thing I need you to be aware of is to NEVER put tap water or any water other than distilled water in your engine cooling system. The minerals will cause damage to components. I hope this info is helpful to you. Feel free to write anytime. Kudos for wanting to learn. Please subscribe and share if you haven't already done so, I could use the support. Thanks, Paul.
Can u please help with my truck gmc I think it's has something to do withe coolant but not sure it's just making a load noise while doing it and not accelerating as wheel thanks
You would have to send me a video of noise through Face Book or post it on You Tube so i can hear the noise. It could be many different things causing your problem. I need more details. You can also email me at paulphillipsfix@gmail.com
I use Prestone, been using it for decades without issues. Thanks for watching and please subscribe as I could use your support, it's free without any strings attached; just shows RUclips that someone is watching. Thanks !!!
Coolant capacity is approx 6 quarts with a 50/50 blend if you use straight antifreeze, it's the cheaper way to go... only dilute with distilled water. Never use tap water! Don't use that damn Dexcool as it's garbage, go with Prestone or any other brand but Dexcool, those orange coolants are terrible.
I replace my coolant every three to four years. This is cheaper than cooling system issues. Please use distilled water with the antifreeze, never tap water. Also, please properly dispose of coolant as it is toxic to animals.
Thanks for watching. Can't help you with the rain :-) Maybe you have a different model radiator if the hose nipple isn't there. If it is, just run out and get a piece of hose for it. I definitely like having it there as it helps reduce in making a mess
@@PaulPhillipsFix nipple is there. Valve is missing. I think it’s a cheap aftermarket radiator. I’ll just have to flush it later one through the lower radiator hose which will make a huge mess. But it is what it is. Thanks for the video.

So is anti freeze the same as coolant? Thank you guys!
Yes I'm speaking of antifreeze.
Thanks for the detail. I couldn't find it no matter what. Turns out previous guy probably broke it. Anyone got any tips for me?
I wish my 07 worked that way. The elbow is there with the nipple but no valve!😮
Sorry to hear that. :-(
How many liters do I add and how much water?

What is the running temp on your Tahoe? Mins is running at 210 all the time. Thanks
is this about the same with gmc sierra?
Yes, same setup.
I have a 03 Silverado and It doesn’t have a plug how can I drain it?
Just pull off the lower radiator hose and unscrew the filler cap and it will all drain out
Distilled water for making the 50/50 mix as well?
With 50/50 blend there is no need to add any water.
I meant with the ones you do ? Distilled yes?
@@georgeferrone1867 yes
Doesn't it circulate through the heater core whether the heat and fan is on or not?
@@roltyd22 Yes I believe it does. But you'll need the fan running to tell if it gets real hot and all air is cleared out of core.
Doesn't use DEXCOOL. But uses a DEXCOOL clone. Myths never die.
whats better dexacool
or clone?

I am sorry I don't understand your question
You’re truck comes with a reservoir
