Great informative video as always Justin 🏁🏆🏁 Appreciate all you do to get the word out on all things Dirt Track Racing 🏁🏆🏁
This is true for late models also. I ran a team in 2017 and I figured it took 2k a night to show up at the track.
No matter what level you race at, your car is never going to pay its own way. You gotta find somebody else to pay the bills.
Alot of these have no idea what fuel for truck haulers costs maintenance on hauling eqipment not counting expenses for the 410 sprint car pit passes that are very high at any series.
Dirt Track racing is better for your coverage. Thanks for the top notch news sir.
Most excellent show. Always great information. I am excited about your newsletter. It is always fun to learn more about drivers and behind the scenes stories. Thank you
Kyle didn’t come from money. He’s just the last great driver with amazing talent that big money teams took on. Also Kevin didn’t mention how much swindell speedlabs makes. 6500 a night? That sounds crazy.
😂😅
Surprised main sponsorship could be secured for only $95k. Thanks Justin. the economics that drive the sport are fascinating
Tanner runnin well in the cup
He pays to play just like everyone else
Corey Day is on fire. It looked like he almost threw it away in the final corner, but managed to hang on.
When he first started he drove like that!
Skagit race was by far the best race of the night. Day and Tanner Homes will be ones to watch for years to come as well as some other young guys.
Dirt Cup didn’t disappoint last year either.
I think Joel Myers Jr. will be one to watch too in the future but he doesn’t seem to have the rhythm he had at point last year.
@@davidarnold6266I 100% thought the same thing about Joel Myers jr. His first 2 years he was on fire and did amazing. This last year or so he hasn’t been up front as much. I still think he’s going to be one to watch out for.
My daughter was racing front wheel drive 4 cylinder cars at 14 years old. Never made enough to pay for it, but she never had a drug problem. Made the investment worth it. And yes, even that level is expensive.
To me it all starts with frame and wheel manufacturing. Its all gone up at every level, even go kart racing. Which is ridiculous because you shouldn't have to spend almost 10k to race a go kart, thats just ludicrous. There's really no answer but to do the best with what you can afford. And some people are spending way more money where its not needed.
As Kenny Wallace and Sweet said it's hard to bring a potential sponsor on board and the toilets stink and stands are falling in
I would say the Hunt the Front team must be the top team in merch sales on the dirt side!
Shoot guessing $1500 a night to unload and race doesn’t include the price of building the car or hours just to get to having a car and trailer.
Justin, fyi... Cory was trying a slider on Tanner which kept him wide and he bike'd up over the cushion and tagger the wall. That broke his Jacobs ladder. He also had problems with his top wing from early in the feature. So not bad coming 4th.
He's 3rd in points after night 1.
Also, the whole 30 lap race from start to finish took just under 7 minutes.
Cool to hear these costs. Love your show!
Dude Brad sweet calling that a guy a "truck" killed me😂😂
Ah another video to dash my hopes as being a blue collar guy running at my hometown track, Knoxville. Oh well, back to karts I go..
Yes teams are expensive to run, nearly as much as their private jets some tend to fly
We all know racing is big time expensive, but $6500 a night for PPM's team is using some funny math!
He’s called young money not young socialist
It’s very interesting how much difference there is between the amounts that it costs car owners to compete nightly. From $1500 to $6500? Wow! That’s a big difference! I would’ve expected somewhere around $2000 per night myself. Fantastic show! Really informative! Have a great weekend!
I assume the differences come from how it's averaged. If they were referring to an average night or yearly average.
For example I race a support level class. My average weekly is gas to get to the track, race fuel, entry fees, general maintenance. About $300+/-
Yearly would include all that plus tires, wheels, engine, chassis, suspension, repairs etc. My 2014 expenses were $65,000 minus winnings at $200 to win divided by 40+/- races a year. If I won every single race (which I didn't) my average weekly cost would be $1425
@@MrNater41 Thanks for the info. I didn’t think about it like that.
Its really simple. If you want to make a million dollars racing, start with 5 million. I raced a more entry level class myself. Skeptics dont think about the nickle and dimes beyond the big expenses.
Gas to get there
Entry fees
Race fuel
Engine oil,
Gear, Transmission fluid,
Antifreeze
Grease for u joints, ball joints etc.
We all know the race surface is going to be laser smooth and not cause any random suspension part failures. But theres beer swilling experts hoping for wrecks, and of course theres always the one guy out there that knows 8 wheels turn better than 4, and is happy to oblige the fans with a little driver side banking. With a little oopsie to just the LF. Now theres a guarantee of needing.
Upper and lower a arm
Ball joints
Tire
Wheel
Spindle
Tie rod end
Wheel bearings
With a chance of
Shock
Center link
Steering arm
Steering box
Drag link
Brake caliper, rotor, and or line
Body panel
Nose cone
Rivets
Bumper
It adds up in a hurry. Our weekly races are 200 to win. I guess if you know, ya know
I was a NASCAR Grand National crew member back in the 70s. The real irony of all the things you list is that the guys who have no money have to buy that stuff and the teams that have money get a lot of those things given to them. It's just the way it works.
Work harder to beat the best
Speed costs money, how fast do YOU want to go???!!!
The teams want more money, do we really need stacker trailers semi trucks and 950 horse power motors. Teams keep spending money then complain they aren't making enough money.
..........and that will never change.
Very interesting.
My comment to the dude was wtf kinda socialist shit is that lol
thank your public school system.....these idiots are everywhere....
These start times are killing me… can’t stay awake for the feature.
I agree 100%
I feel what your saying. I get up at 330 eastern for work. Can't make it to the dash some nights. I watch alot of feature replays of mountain and pacific time zone races. And avoid spoilers for as long as possible.
Sprint cars need a deal like nascar. Through cable television nascar is boring to watch sprint cars is actually entertaining.
Cable TV is dying
Everyone jealous of kyle
No, he or nascar drivers don't need the money as do as other guys are trying to race for a living which very few of them can do now a days less and less are doing it.
Yup cause he’s #1 on dirt no one can touch him.
@@michaelolenick4078larson helps his car owners earn a living
@@michaelolenick4078so because other guys have less money then Kyle he shouldn’t do something he clearly enjoys
@@DirtTrackRacing410😂😅
Remember when keading's used to be fast petty sure Brent's career lasted a lot longer than their but I could be wrong I don't pay attention to stuff much anymore just don't hear them in the headlines like the old days
Oh my god Brad Sweet sounds like Shorsey in that video
Drivers need to be more accessible to the fans, and that includes the tracks participating in that. My experience is that few drivers will be at their merch trailers but only want to talk to you if you are buying their merch. Not a good way to build a fan base. If you want this sport to grow it takes effort from drivers and tracks.
My ex husband thought race expenses were more important than rent. Thank God for food stamps.
The video is great😂
Some guys on Street outlaws NPK( Drag racing) can pull 25k$ a weekend in merch… not sure what the less popular guys make. I’d assume dirt racing would be less than that at smaller non crown jewel events.
Larson seems to be so worried about others making money yet comes in to take the money when they have a high purse. How does that make sense?
He is brilliant chasing the big money.
Makes plenty. He is helping more than anyone to bring that money and his presence has given everyone opportunities. Unfortunately for the others he's difficult to beat
You can bet he gets appearance money for every one of these races he shows up at.
@@EclecticHillbilly still earns it
I'm one of the people that said he shouldn't be racing his own series taking money away from smaller teams who don't have the backing he does nor the nascar salary he does. How is dirt track racing gonna survive when only a few teams can afford to do it anymore
He also puts up extra money with the dice roll to beat him, he knows he’s the favorite, yet wants the competition to beat him.. Even if they don’t I bet he’d still pay them extra to have the balls to do so..
I can't believe a driver would want half the purse money...lol
Kenny Wallace covers money in dirt racing. Had Brad Sweet and J Davenport on
Back in the day, that was the standard for a hired driver............there was no salary, though.
Justin, speaking of merch, where did you get the shirt you have on in this video? Was hoping it was in your store, but no luck.
It's an old R&R shirt. I don't believe they sell them anymore.
Thanks. It's a great design.
You earn it you keep it
Hey Justin: I have an idea for feature on shows in the future. How about Where are they now? What happened to Andy Hillenburg? He was a favorite of mine. M.Kinser.. Stuf like that. Thanx again for your show.
You should go find our past episodes of Open Red. We talked to all of those guys.
@@DIRTRACKR Thanx will do that.
you miss quoted yourself, truth is 'racing isn't expensive, winning is, however"
Even losing is expensive.
Why b a car car owner if you pay the driver half of the winnings an you break even with thr rest doesn't make sense
Amazing tax deductions
I wouldn't mind paying an extra 5 bucks, that would help.
I was going to say the same thing. At our local track I don’t think admission prices have increased since the mid 90’s! Maybe a increase of $5 over the years. It’s a bargain for family entertainment. I would pay more at the gate if they pass it along to the drivers to help them a tiny bit.
Get the fans in the stands
The grove is canceled
I Was gonna go..hope lincoln runs.
By the logic of some of these people someome that is the best employee at a business should share there money with a new hire or a not as good employee, that’s a very socialist way to think
Kaedings are the literal worst. Spin themselves out when the race isn’t going their way, Bud just spun himself out at Skagit because he didn’t want to get lapped in the A Main 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Don't forget what the fuel cost to race racing gasoline diesel for the hauler and Diesel to run the generator oh yeah what about motor rebuilt
Why are you expecting to make profit racing? It's been known you only become a millionaire racing by starting with multiple millions and spending it all
For the vast majority, racing has always been a money loser! It's only because of men's egos and competitiveness that it has survived this long. Look at NASCAR, their glory days are behind them. They will never again fill their grandstands like they did 15 or 20 years ago. Kids today are not being exposed to racing like they used to be. Computers, the internet, and social media have ruined our kids for sports. Even high schools are having trouble getting enough kids to field their teams. Just look at the ages of people attending the dirt track races. You won't see many young people.
The lack of young fans is a huge problem that is gonna get worse and seemingly nobody cares about it
I recently went to Cedar Lake (regular show 6 classes), then River Cities (WoO sprints + Wissota late models), then Red Cedar (regular show 6 classes). At each place, there were kids tossing footballs at intermission, scrambling for the t shirt canon, looking over the t shirt stands, and more. All 3 of these places make an effort to have kids clubs or activities, and it helps. Yes, I think the sport could do more to get kids, but I think I see these 3 places already stealing some of the kids (and adults) away from the woke stick and ball sports. That's a good thing.
BOO
Its all a big hobby
Looking like Pa. rain week
When I raced in the 90's you raced knowing you were losing money. Sponsorship and prize money made me about $15k a year, spent way more than that. Luckily I ran my racing as a business and had huge tax write offs, just had to show winnings and sponsorship money.
Justin, ever checked into selling your merch on the big website that's also a river in Brazil? Cant type it or comnent gets deleted. Let me know if you want more info, I've been doing it about 4 years. You'll probably make more money with hardly any work and never any cost out of pocket.
Yes but on the merch deal like a lot of the light model people Brian Shirley kkm mola Keith kunz Motorsports people like that you can't buy shirts from them and have them sign you have to order them. I don't want to buy a shirt if I can't buy it from the person and have them sign it that's part of my getting shirt. That is why my seven-year-old daughter loves to look for shirts that they have at their trailers.
larson has the king of cheating and nascar footing his bills you know hendrick payus for babyboy larsons outfit
