Taiwanese world master Chien CHung-Wei came to Girona again last year to give a watercolor course and share his wisdom.
Here's one of his demos that he did in Calella de Palafrugell, beautiful place of the Costa Brava.

interesting he's basically using gouache for a lot of his brights, those are really opaque watercolors and high key..

Chien is one of the worlds finest painters who's work exhibits great compositional intellect - and wonderfully emotive aesthetic difference - His oeuvre offers the viewer a huge diversity in subject matter along with unique resolve in his use of shapes - edges - colours & plain changes. He is one of my favourite painters whom I admire with deep gratitude - passion and respect ! 🙏

The music is only trying to cover the background music that RUclips will block, that is the problem
Incredible preservation of lightness, every where. Beautiful pastel tones. Nice celadon chinese color on sea. High concentration and really mastering the moisture of paper and préservation focal point. Sky really beautiful . Great.

A true talent! Looks like he mixed white gouache with other colors to make it opaque so his painting has the effect of oil painting. I bet he practiced Chinese painting and calligraphy which enhance his maneuver of brushes - like dancing on the paper! That’s the part western painter can never catch up.
he does use white...holbein have a kit of his colours . He lays them out like a CMYK printer. There is a video on youtube of his palette.

His semi-transparent watercolor techniques are quite interesting, certainly give the watercolor more strength and depth. Seems he's using the Holbein Artist's Watercolor, Chien Chung-Wei Set of 24. The use of Jaune Brillant, Gray of Gray and Davy's Gray in Holbein watercolor to create many interesting grays.

Is it some kind of 'me-too' urge that needs to be fulfilled without question??
I do understand and you are probably right, silence would be more eloquent. But in this case, music was a must, to cover other copyright music. Still I admit it was maybe not the best choice, apologies

Absolutely wonderful to watch a Master Watercolorist in action! I loved the whole tutorial, music and all. Watercolor is a difficult medium, but now inspired to give it another try. I believe I heard him say "I use Saunders, very close to Arches" for paper. Amazing results! Bravo Chien Chung-Wei ! Thank you to "Enjoy Painting Catalonia" for a lovely tutorial. Very interesting me what paints Teacher uses? Maybe, who will prompt, I will be thankful))
I'm learning watercolor from his student in taiwan. We use Winsor & Newton student grade. Mr.Chien retired a few years ago. I really hope i can learn watercolor directly from him :)
He uses mainly Holbein colours, he even has his own set, but he uses other brands as well
