Shanniese Stewart yeah, her mind wasn’t able to file the emotion and shock she was feeling so she clung to the first solution someone gave her, which was the lie her dad told her it actually happens a lot in cases of people with PTSD, eventually Freddy’s mind broke down too and his mind decided the best way to deal with the situation was to cling to something that made sense because his dad murdering his mom didn’t make sense.

The whole world tells him that he should look to his father for moral guidance, and thus that his father is the superior being. When this is his premise, any contradictory information creates cognitive dissonance which must be explained away, even if it's a mountain of evidence, and the premise that he's an inferior being provides the explanation. It is rare for a child to successfully combat this, and it is realistic that he is able to do so momentarily but then relapses. This is why children so often retract accusations of their parents, which is music to the ears of child abusers. Common sense should tell the rest of us that if a child is ever, however fleetingly, willing to jeopardize his/her welfare by accusing a parent, something is very wrong.

Astonishing the effectiveness/and not, of brainwashing on children, of the power of the manipulative effect of adults over children. I'm reminded strongly of the misinformation in our time being wielded on vulnerable sectors by many so-called "journalists" and politicians of the right, and their extraordinary rate of success at convincing folks it's better to die than do minimal life-saving measures aimed at all our wellbeing. Wow. Those folks are sacrificing your lives to further their filthy political ambitions. Your lives are definitely worth more than their political ambitions. I wish more unvaccinated folks could get this. We want you to live. The right does not give a flying sh*t if you die. Their only aim is to get elected, and if that happens, just watch how it hurts you, b/c their only care is the bottom line of the wealthy. Please listen up folks. We're trying to save all of us, not just the 1%. Give it your best thought. Be well, I sincerely wish COVID spares your family and pray that you are vaccinated so that that can happen.

This struck a chord with me. My husband used to discourage me from using makeup. He would humiliate me infront of our family friends and call me names infront of his sisters. Later, he would apologize (sometimes) but never mend his ways. At that time, I thought it was okay and that he loved me regardless. It came to a point where I couldn't look at myself in the mirror. I got out of it only when he started hitting me. But now I realize that mental abuse is harder to recover from than physical abuse. And never believe when they apologize but don't mend their ways.

The little girl was praised for going along and Freddie recognized he would not get the love and attention until he went along too. But he rejected his son at the prison for not being convincing enough which leads me to believe maybe that maybe he wasn't his son. In any even it messed up Freddie for the rest of his life.

This movie is truly impactful and hits home
As a kid who grew up with an incredibly toxic mother and only parent I had .
She went into extremes of gaslighting me as a kid even up to my adult years that my whole “reality “ of what the truth was to certain events was so distorted that affected my trust in others a lot .
It’s always sadder when the one who’s doing the gaslighting is coming from your own parent .

This is one of those vids you watch and pause to reflect on your thoughts afterwards...excellently portraying how children can be manipulated. Shows also how people can stay in abusive relationships, things are made to seem different then they are in actuality, sometimes a lie is easier to live with and after so long of living with lies we choose to stay in that world, rather than come to terms with the reality of what our life actually is.
Sorry, I'm getting all "deep" but this vid got me in a weird way, it was very well acted, the music score on point, cinematography perfectly drab...everything lines up to a beautifully frightening "pause point"..Excellent work to all!

What a shortfilm! Hard to stand! On top of all what happened even when the father was executed they had to hold on to that story, what else would have left. Shock and trauma paralised and such an insane murder is so unbelievable, that you cannot cope else as believing into what the person you love and trust tells you.
Brilliantly set in scene, impressively acted. excellent atmosphere captured.
Wrenches my heart knowing there are similar stories out there, psychological abuse also a part of a part of my life.

Gaslighting is indeed just as insidious ... they will always have a skewered reality. Professional help is vital to work through these toxic childhood episodes! And making a film about it must be powerfully cathartic, kudos
