- A young boy accidentally shoots a stranger.
WELCOME TO IRON KNOB is used with permission from Dave Wade. Learn more at bluebirdproductions.com.au.
Iron Knob is a sleepy little town in South Australia where nothing much happens. But then two boys playing outside one day accidentally shoot a stranger with one of their father's guns.
They enlist their older sister and an aunt to help clean up the mess and salvage the situation, but as they try to address the situation, the town reveals itself to be odder than thought. The father is still grieving his wife, who has passed away, and everyone else is too preoccupied with their own affairs and schemes to care much.
But thanks to the persistence of the sister, the town is shaken up, especially the grief-struck father, whose action finally jolts the funny little town forward to come together in an equally eccentric way.
Writer-director Dave Wade's dry, deadpan short comedy is a collective portrait of small-town life, where mores and manners don't change, no matter what happens.
Its sense of humor comes not from gags, quips or antics, but from a mastery of sustained tone and wry observation. When the boys shoot the stranger -- who ends up to be in a lot of trouble himself -- it shakes this little town up, rattling loose a long-dormant eccentricity.
The writing takes a keen pleasure in observing the ways this small community deals with the event, and much of the humor is found is how nonchalantly Iron Knob's denizens greet the small spark of accidental violence in the midst. Its rhythms and pacing are as ambling and measured as a lizard sitting in the sun, and even when someone is shot and their life threatened, nothing will budge the town citizens from their routine and small affairs.
The collective portrait of the town that emerges as more and more Iron Knob denizens find out about the shooting is one almost of atrophy, as if addled from too much time in the sun. As fitting to a town in the middle of nowhere, the film has sun-soaked cinematography and a beautiful sense of naturalism and uses these visual tools to create a strong sense of place that adds to the richness of the story.
WELCOME TO IRON KNOB is much like the town that it evokes: distinctly Australian, offbeat, yet with its own peculiar charm. Viewers will enter a world that saunters along to its own internal rhythms, but it pays off in an ending that is satirically heartwarming and yet still strangely sweet. It's both a paean and a send-up to small towns, and how they can insulate its inhabitants from the rough currents of life -- for better or worse. Кино
Seems like this wasn’t the first time this town had to cover up a murder. Everyone was so calm and collected with the murder

Its a story. Kids raised around guns know how to hold guns, not to run holding them, where to point them...This is not real the actor has never held a gun before. City kids with glocks shoot people
After WW2 many American kids in rural area's would play "War" with real firearms/gear that their Fathers brought back from WW2. (Unloaded of course).

Isn't obvious???
I do but I don't "play" with them.

Meh. Metal detectors are only good a few inches down. He's not picking up any "gold tooth" signals. The only stuff he'll find is what was dropped by the living. It disturbed me too but for a different reason. He didn't know how to use it. You have to swing slow, level and close to the ground. Obvious noob. Not a detectorist. Source? I mean iron knob is a real town in Australia so they were probably actors from Australia
@Trevor Phillips Industries They are Aussie actors 🤷♀️ And many of those people would have been from the actual town since it was filmed on location. I’m confused that you seem to think they’re just pretending to be Australian 🤔
@Trevor Phillips Industries Well acting is usually pretending to be a character. It’s a lot harder to convincingly pull off an accent, culture & character (although the guy who plays Rick from TWD does it really well). And when they’ve got plenty of Aussie actors, why would they look elsewhere?
@Trevor Phillips Industries Fair enough. They are actually Aussie - like me 😊 🙋♀️

Why are they all so chill like this has happened before?
It's a comedy. The reason they're so chill is because it's suppose to be one of those small close knit backwards towns where everyone knows each other.
Serial killers in training? What's wrong with those boys?
Oh, they come from Iron Knob. That explains everything.

Absolutely loved this!!! I mean, it was about a murder, but at the same time, it was more about helping out a neighbour who is going thru grief and understanding that they might need some space and time to deal. And yes, what the Russian said is true, save your tears for someone good (which unless you are a child is no one), not for the guilty who in this case I believe was a serial murderer
Yeah all the black people that were hung and burned for people like this they took pictures with the bodies and they thought it was ok because of the color of my skin WOW 🤦♀️🤬

I highly recomend sticking with this short story and not bailing early. It is so odd and unique. Well done!
I thought he she put the stick in the whole in his head in stead of him moving
I got a feeling there are a few more bodies out there given how calm they were about it all. And also, how do we know that was the good twin that survived?? The spade that was on the floor next to him makes me question this.
I understand this is acting but there is a few people i know who would react like this...
The fact that the kids just sat there and poked him 🤣
This is hilarious. Netflix needs to adapt this into a full series.
Breaking Bad alternate universe, Todd episode
I applaud whoever made this short film. I fully believe that if you gave this a precursor episode to fully show how down and depressed the whole town was getting, especially the father of the two kids, you could turn this into a full series. The amount you filled out just a few of these characters in only 20 minutes really shows your talent.
