Maybe you could find the time to explain the term "Cratch".
Many narrowboats have a cratch cover (sometimes with a cratch board) at the front of the boat but what it covers is called the well deck. Why isn't it called a well deck cover?
What is the purpose or function of a cratch?

brave to walk round the boat using the gunwales - something I'd rather avoid. unfortunately my boat is currently tied on the outside of two others so it's my only access. people often watch from the bridge hoping I have a Laurel & Hardy type accident and fall in.

Easy way to remember Port and starboard..... Port has four letters the same as Left .

Useless piece of information,as you have a squared off stern it is actually more fuel efficient as it moves through the water strange as it seems.told you it was useless.
