Not sure who played this but it sounds like either Frank Milne, Victor Arden or Adam Carroll, very snappy and bold playing!

This piano sounds very nice! Very thick and beefy tone! The piano that has the Playola sounds very different, it has a much more clear and glassy tone!

Both pianos are Yamaha U-1s. This one is a 2008, the one in my shop with the Playola is a 1980, over 40 years old. Also, the acoustics in the shop are very bright, and I recorded it from much farther back. That probably accounts for some of of the sound. I would imagine the hammers are a bit hard as well. I have noticed that the newer (Japanese) Yamahas are less bright, more along the lines of the Steinway, or the European pianos. My 1984 C-3 that I had the old Pianocorder Vorsetzer playing on is a little less bright, than most, but still not as thick as a Steinway.

The iPad I used seems to have made a significant difference in the sound as well. This video was recorded with an iPad Pro 11”, and the videos of the piano in the shop were recorded with an iPad Pro 10.5”. I made another recording using the old iPad that I used for the shop recordings, and it does sound different. ruclips.net/video/g1hUh3FgZEQ/видео.html

@@Art_Thompson As the models get newer the sound gets better usually, Samsung did make a few models that for a change had terrible mics but the Galaxy series is great. iPhones in general have never had unacceptable sound quality.

@@Art_Thompson I've noticed that, I am getting pretty tired of the dull and mushy hammers of new pianos. That's why I delight in restored pianos that are really bright and clear sounding as opposed to thick and boring like every other piano on the market.
I also love the acoustics in your shop, the Silver Swan Rag video has by far my favorite audio when it comes to general tone balance :)
