It does not void your warranty so don't worry :) your HDD would normally be divided into 2-3 local disks, whereby one of them contains all of the drivers. So just right click on other drives and click format.
Nice video, I have the same laptop with a 1TB HDD, can i also install the SSD as you have mentioned in the description? Are there some particular type of SSD's to look for. Thanks.
Yes of course it is. If you install it on the other hard drive, it will load from that hard drive and the speed would be the same and the SSD would be for nothing :D The point of having an SSD is to install progams and games on it so when you load those programs and games, it takes much less time :D
When the system is on SSD, the system boot and load faster. Same thing for games or programs. You install games on SDD, it will load ten times faster than on HDD. Smooth or not depends on your other specs of the laptop (processor, RAM, graphic card). SDD just increases the speed of reading and loading the file.
I'm in the same boat as you, but I think I'm going to go wit the 580 because its been out a little bit longer so you can get a better deal on it and you can get a better graphics card in it as well. Also a CD slot never really hurts to have even tho I rarely use it.
Yup, you can download the windows 7 iso and install it then use the code at the back to activate it. Yeah after installing you can plug the hdd back in. Remember to set it to boot from the ssd
hi buddy, just want to ask how to ask about the windows fresh install part, can we just use the windows 7 backup features to create the system image for the fresh install?or we can download the windows 7 sp 1 iso file from windows website and use the code at the back of our laptop to activate it? further, after we installed the windows, we can plug the hdd back in right?
hey man, can you personal message me on how to install the ssd on top of the hard drive? I just ordered a y580 and I was wondering how you make it work. Im assuming you have to remove the blu-ray drive and put the ssd there... but i need more clear instructions please.
What about the warranty, mate? Is there any chance to void my warranty if i install SSD? What do you mean by saying to make sure not to delete the drive with the Y580 drivers. Where this drive is? Is it HDD? I mean are these drivers' stored in HDD? If yes, how can you avoid deleting them whilst formatting HDD? Appreciated
When you know what you are doing, that would not be necessary. But when you install win 7 without removing the HDD, and the boot files are already in the HDD, it would not install it to the SDD. Thus when you format the HDD, u wont be able to boot later. This may not be true all the time but at least this is one of the problems that could happen.
I have not long ago installed the same mSATA. But does my games have to be installed on the mSATA? I had a little trouble installing mSATA but i made it my (C:) drive. It's only 128 gigs and that would be too small.
two questions... 1) the computer has a built in 60 GB SSD, can i use that to install windows? 2) if i can, then all i have to do is unscrew the HDD, remove it, install win7 on the SDD, and then put the HDD back in for storage?
I am about to receive mine in a couple weeks the 1TB 5400rpm :( . But i know you can install an SSD in all of them of the Y580's. Theres differences in screen size and things like that but as far as the Motherboard/GPU goes it's all the same. So any Y580 can handle SSD. Since he has installed a 128GB mSATA I guess a 256GB mSATA will work too.
Thanks for reply. I don't think that i will have some trouble with installation. But i will definitely have some trouble with setting up SSD (removing OS from HDD, OS installation, BIOS config, etc). I was surfing RUclips but i couldn't find good guidance. So if you can do that it will be really helpful.
It's very simple, Just remove the back and you will know what to do. If you still find it confusing, reply on this and I may take some time to post some pics on.
I took my lenovo y580 to service because windows didn't install properly. When u picked it up they said they had to remove my 16gb mSATA ssd because it failed. They went ahead and installed windows 10 on the regular hard drive? is the ssd very important? should o install a new one? thank you.
No, not at all :) Just install the SSD, set it up (new laps wil automatically change to AHCI, if urs doesnt then go to BIOS and change it), take out hdd, install fresh windows on it and set it to boot from SSD --> put back HDD in and do wtever u want with it :)
For me, I do think that Y500 gonna outclass Y580 in every aspect.. GT 650M Sli (almost on par GTX 670M), new cooling system.. specifically build for Windows 8 and much more .. although the price kinda bang on your wallet atleast it gonna last long.. much longer with Ultrabay feature.. :\
Yes but then you need to some how get the windows installed to the ssd. you just move the windows to example usb hard driver that haves space on it. then you just plug it on the another pc and move the windows to ssd or somethink i am not albert einstain. but thos sata/ serial-atas are backwords compaible. sorry for bad english hope you get it right.@leninhitlerjuanpablo
Haha I just don't believe in such things called "stupid questions", noone is born knowing everything right :D. yeah you just put the disk in and when the laptop starts, the bios will boot from the disk and there will be stuff to guide you through the installation. you could try this ebay.com/itm/IBM-Lenovo-3000-N100-Genuine-Screw-Screws-Set-/380525131812?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item589910b824 Or you could search for any IBM sets of screws,i guess :D

WoW, dude thanks! This has really set things strait !
yes. possible, this requires the msata slot, not the 2,5" HDD slot.
When the system is on SSD, the system boot and load faster. Same thing for games or programs. You install games on SDD, it will load ten times faster than on HDD. Smooth or not depends on your other specs of the laptop (processor, RAM, graphic card). SDD just increases the speed of reading and loading the file.
Wow, its literally like night and day! Was it difficult to format the PC to use the SSD?
Also, how is the FPS on BF3 at 1920x1080?
I'm in the same boat as you, but I think I'm going to go wit the 580 because its been out a little bit longer so you can get a better deal on it and you can get a better graphics card in it as well. Also a CD slot never really hurts to have even tho I rarely use it.
Hey, mate! I will really appreciate if you can make a video of installing and setting up the SSD (step by step). Please please...
Yup, you can download the windows 7 iso and install it then use the code at the back to activate it. Yeah after installing you can plug the hdd back in. Remember to set it to boot from the ssd

Is it a folder that contains all the drivers? Could it be found in C:/disk where the OS installed?

Did you install BF3 on the ssd or the hdd on the ssd lenovo?

Hey nam. Can you add those instructions to this RUclips post?
is there a big difference if the game is installed on hdd, while the whole system is placed on ssd? will it run faster, more smooth?
I have not long ago installed the same mSATA. But does my games have to be installed on the mSATA? I had a little trouble installing mSATA but i made it my (C:) drive.
It's only 128 gigs and that would be too small.
If I have all my stuff on a 1 tb driver, how would I put my opperating system on the ssd?
two questions...

2) if i can, then all i have to do is unscrew the HDD, remove it, install win7 on the SDD, and then put the HDD back in for storage?
Yeah true :( but I think it's worth it to invest in a SSD, cuz the difference in performance is huge compared to the difference in price.
Do u have to have the game installed on the SSD for the game to launch fast?
I am about to receive mine in a couple weeks the 1TB 5400rpm :( . But i know you can install an SSD in all of them of the Y580's. why do you need to unscrew hdd ? you just install Win7 on SDD's physical drive and thats it.
My question is, how do I upgrade my current msata ssd with boot drive install on it?
Thanks for reply. I don't think that i will have some trouble with installation. But i will definitely have some trouble with setting up SSD (removing OS from HDD, OS installation, BIOS config, etc). I was surfing RUclips but i couldn't find good guidance. So if you can do that it will be really helpful.
Good one.. but SSD is still expensive though -_-
Hard to choose between Lenovo Y580 or Y500...
can i still install the ssd without format it to NTFS?
how did u get windows 7 on this
It's very simple, Just remove the back and you will know what to do. If you still find it confusing, reply on this and I may take some time to post some pics on.
Man can you give me link or send me a deskop pictures from the left computer please?

Hey man.Can you configure it for srt?Thx in advance..xD
the speed is real!!
I included it in the description :D
my god, look how long that hdd took time to open that bf3
Just defrag it, configure autostart, put some apps on autostart timer and you won't need a ssd.
Win7 has a bug in which it won't install on any computer with more than one hard drive/solid state drive :p
Yes you do!
Wow I will buy ssd. In 00:48 ssd - game ready, hdd - loading windows...
sent
Nah nevermind, I think don't care about it then :D just format the whole hdd and redownload your drivers from lenovo's site and it would be fine.

Its this one if Im not wrong
Haha I just don't believe in such things called "stupid questions", noone is born knowing everything right :D. yeah you just put the disk in and when the laptop starts, the bios will boot from the disk and there will be stuff to guide you through the installation.
