While Hush is a solid BATMAN comic, The Long Halloween is undoubtedly among the best comics ever written. The fact this video doesn’t talk about that surprises me.
K-DOGG it’s tough to fit all the best conics into one video but I definitely want to dissect the long Halloween too. I talked to Tim Sale about it a lot at last year’s ECCC but just off camera stuff. That story is amazing
I’m no Batman comic expert, but I always assumed Death In the Family, Killing Joke, Year One, and The Dark Knight Returns were among the best Bat storylines ever told. Always, always wanted to read The Long Halloween! Either I keep forgetting to hunt for it or can’t find it in the shops.
MR.DC COMICS that’s why I bought Batman and Robin All Star. Well I didn’t know what an atrocity the story was (no disrespect to Frank Miller, thank you for the DKR) it was still worth it to get it for Jims Art
It's been said that the story of Batman: Hush is a bit confusing, but I would like to think that the success of that storyline came from the artwork. I would like to meet Jim Lee someday and ask him a few questions about Batman: Hush.
Hush was my first ever Batman comic I bought with my own salary, it was so special to me that it led me to buy more Batman books especially Scott Snyder's run.
He stole half his kids from one of his “friends”. He stole his wife too. Why get a wife and kid of your own when you can take your “friend’s” wife and kids?
Once DC gets their act together after all the slated solo films (WW84, Shazam, etc.) Batman: Hush would be the perfect Batman film - one having pre-established characters and stories. I’ve always wanted DC Films to do this story.
Hush needs the credit for producing the best and most iconic Batman images of all time. When people who have never read a comic think of Batman they think of the Hush design.
True, His art etches into your brain. I remember his Superman cover art from 5-6 years ago the level of detail in the background was mesmerizing. But I like artwork that flows, better nowadays.
I got Hush for Christmas as a 12 year old Batman geek and devoured it. I was surprised by the twist ending, but an even bigger surprise came when my 17 year old brother who never reads comics read the book and loved it. Definitely a high quality Batman story with very broad appeal.
Yes, I agree with most of the people in here. It's not the best Batman story of all time but definitely it's on top 10 and maybe top 5 (personally it's on my top 5). Like Lee said in the interview, that story reinvented Batman, catched new readers and made the oldest readers came back to the business. This was the first story of Batman that I really loved, mainly for the art. Here's my top 5: Year One The Long Halloween Court of Owls Hush The Dark Knight Returns
I think it was predictable and not too challenging (except for joker chapter, that was great). Loeb always does somebody fakes something and they are person for all his books. Alberto with his death for long holloween, Sofia and what she is in dark victory, and now Tommy in hush. Also going from Tim sale to Jim Lee is a big step down
This was the first trade paperback I ever bought, I loved this story when I first read it, now I think it’s supremely overrated. The mystery may have stumped Batman till the end, but it sure didn’t stump the reader.
To me,hands down,Batman:Hush is the greatest Batman detective story ever. Someone from Bruce Wayne's past figures out his secret and returns to destroy his life. The villain's identity is hard to nail down until the end so it keeps you guessing. This was officially the beginning of the post-Crisis Bruce and Selina relationship. The dynamic between them changed with this story because Bruce Wayne decided to share his secret with her and let her into his life. Jim Lee's art is phenomenal. It's like watching a movie play out right in front of you and Jeph Loeb's writing is top-notch. To me,this story is similar to another Batman story he wrote-The Long Halloween. The mystery unfolds over 12-13 issues. The big difference between them besides the art is the fact that The Long Halloween is set at the beginning of Batman's career and Hush is set like in the middle of his career. So The Long Halloween is what forms him but Hush is what defines him. To me,that is why Hush is a superior story. Oh,and also if you read the story Heart Of Hush, you find out that he wasn't working alone the 1st time he came to Gotham. That,in fact,he had a mentor, who just happened to be one of Batman's greatest foes. Hush is just such a fantastic story and a great beginning for a villain with a personal score to settle against Batman.
Which is of course an opinion you might have, I enjoyed the long Halloween as a story but the artwork in it is a bid letdown for me, from this perspective Hush is a much better comic.
Batman: Animated Series made Batman my favourite charecter but HUSH made me fall love in the charecters and it's world. Love HUSH all time. Read in College days, still today my most favourite comics ever!!!!
The dude who introduced it called Hush accessible. It's my favorite Batman story of all time, but I lent my copy to my brother-in-law who occasionally reads Marvel graphic novels and he was completely lost.
Well that's disappointing. I think it's really accessible but not every story can be accessible to everyone i guess. Thanks for watching this! i appreciate hearing this side. It's been a while since I've lent my copy out to someone
Trying to have a original type to bring new fans in while showing the some of the classic villains and having so many twists are always a good thing but hard to not hurt the characters at the same time
I absolutely hate the new 52-verse animated movies. The Batman movies and everything else have been trash. Utter trash. And I can’t believe they took out Tim Drake for Damian. Disgraceful indeed. I 100% agree
Yeah man, so many great story lines ruined by it; Batman and Son, Judas Contract, Death of Superman, and now Hush. Even their movies based on new 52 comics are garbage like Justice League:War and Batman vs. Robin, which was some awful hybrid between Court of Owls and Grant Morrison's Batman and Robin. It even crept its way into Young Justice: Outsiders, changing the design of Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and more. You'd think that the animated team would finally move on after the new 52 has been dead since 2016. Rant over.
Sentinel04 depends on what you mean by best. It’s definitely the best for being accessible to potential new comic readers. A lot of Batman stories (even ones I LOVE) come with a lot backstory you need to know before reading it
@@jberwin I've been reading Batman, Detective Comics, and Brave and the Bold since 1969. It is worth the read. It's in Gotham Knights #32 & can be found in Batman: The Greatest Stories Ever Told, Vol. 1. It is truly an underrated story. Your mileage my vary, but it is one of my favorites.
I wouldn’t say it’s the best Batman story. Far from it. But it’s the Batman story that has EVERYTHING in it. Loeb’s great at writing these sprawling detective stories that take Batman all over Gotham. Hush is the perfect read for anyone coming fresh from the Arkham games as it shares that dark yet colorful aesthetic. Also great if you already read The Long Halloween and Dark Victory and wanted a similar story with a shinier coat of paint.
Hush isn't that good for it's story. It's decent. The draw is the characters and the art. It's basically a "best of" complication of Batman's history up to that point referencing every big thing that had happened to Batman with some small exceptions. Hush himself isn't that good a villain in his debut story and the mystery is obvious. The best bit is Catwoman's involvement and interaction with the Bat family and all the guest appearances from Batman rogues to Superman and Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. It's a great story for a new Batman fan but not much more than that. Calling it one of the greatest stories and implying it's better than Court of Owls is wrong.
Love Batman: Hush by Jim Lee. I have multiple versions of this awesome graphic novel. Jim Lee if you read this please do one more Epic Run on the X-men Please!!!
