Bill Finger / Bob Kane co created Batman to be a dark, serious and emotionally driven. Denny O Neil and Neal Adams made the best Batman comic books that inspired Batman Begins , The Dark Knight even Batman 1989.
Give his writing partner Denny O'Neill some credit too. He came up with Ra's Al Ghul, Arkham Asylum and Bane, among many other staples of the Batman mythos.
My fondest memories of Neal are in the 70's his Batman stuff. Then as a collector hunting X-Men, green lantern, Deadman, and the masses of cover artwork he did. Long live Neal Adams!
Batman #251 is the only comic that I have signed and CGC certified and graded. 9.0...going to make a great heirloom. Neal signed it for me at Powers Comics in Green Bay, WI in early 2015. What a thrill to meet a true legend.
I remember being 10 when The Dark Knight came out. I was amazed, they actually managed to do Joker again. I was in love with Nicholson’s portrayal from when I was very young and the character was very close to me, so I was expecting a lot from Ledger & he delivered. Kids nowadays won’t ever know that feeling of awe with Joker & Batman anymore. Instead of being a mythic figure that speaks to your heart, it’s just a corporate product (I know it always has been but at least they did it artfully.) Leto was an embarrassment & Pheonix looks brilliant but it’s far too many in such a short time
I'm used to seeing Mike in these interviews and he is one of my favorites. You can tell he really loves what he is doing and has a great wealth of knowledge. Morgan, however, gives a pretty fresh perspective considering she is a new reader and discovering this world for the first time. I hope to see a "regular" interview where we get both of them in frame and a back and forth. I wanna see how she rocks the mic. I've only started reading around 2008-ish so I guess I'm pretty new myself.
Chandasouk 1) agree 100% that Morgan brings a wonderful PoV that is much different than mine since I’m a geek from the Mesozoic Era. And that’s a great thing! I thought this video turned out fantastic. 2) thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated!
The Neal Adams Joker really looks the most like Cesar Romero's Joker but he kills using the deadly Smylex that contracts victims cheek muscles of Jack Nicholson's Joker, not really Heathcliff Ledger's Joker.
Batman and the Joker 🃏 is the greatest battle and vs in all of fiction. And no villain can top the Joker yes there are so many that are stronger and more powerful but the Joker being human but the perfect criminal makes his so special. It’s funny that Batman is the best hero and the Joker is the greatest villain and happen to be in the same universe and story’s.
Could Care less about the the Nolan Batman trilogy or Heath Ledger's Joker. They're fine. But the 70's Adams/O'Neill Batman and to some extent Marshall Rogers stuff on Batman ALWAYS got me stoked!
Since they are doing tons of animated movies, they really should focus on O'Neil/Adam's and Englehart stories, and not overrated stuff like Hush and The Long Halloween.
Every time Im about to pull the trigger and pick up Batman 251 I end up getting pulled away to another book. Happened just last night again.. picked up 227 instead. With a totally awesome Adams Homage cover too. $$$
At 6:16 that is not a true statement. They had seen the Joker in Batman The Animated Series. Even though it was animated Bruce Timm and Paul Dini with the voice of Mark Hamill did a remarkable job of creating the one and only Joker. which no one, AND I MEAN NO ONE has yet surpassed. As far as I'm concerned they set the bar that no one has matched.
larry potter while I too enjoyed the animated most people didn’t but a lot did see the dark knight and still to this day talk about ledgers joker . It will be interesting to see another take on the joker down the line though .
There's believe it or not, theres kids that haven't watched Batman TAS. I was having an argument on how the new video game Spider-Man was a fantastic interpretation of Spidey, and all of the people were referring to the movies. Not one person referred to the comics or any TV shows.
Interesting video, but the constant interruptions by the host wasn't a good choice. Theres interesting stuff being explained and she keeps butting in and sharing her perspective and disrupting the flow of the video. ALso, the Joker doesn't kill 5 people in the first 5 minutes of the Dark Knight. His men kill each-other for a larger share of the take, even if its Jokers orders He only kills the bus driver.
Admitting this is your first comic is admitting this channel didn't get someone genuinely knowledgeable on Neal Adams. The host does well, but I blame the higher-ups for this. The newbie approach takes the focus off Adams and ascribes too much of it to the host. Have the host do 14 hours of her own research, including reading more comics to get a better exploration of the subject.
the way he described the relationship between Batman and The Joker was perfect. Great interview

Neal is a legend. Period.
👌✌
Neal Adams is a national hero. Imagine pop-culture today without his influence on Batman.
Pretty sucky, right?

Neal is a. Legend , he made the standard batman, we all know, that classic look batman from the 70s and 80s
Grew up with Neal Adams' Batman & that is one of the best Joker stories of all time. Loved your video, first time viewer, instant subscriber!
Batman # 251 is my all time favorite single issue comic. By far THE BEST Joker incarnation.
Batman #251 is the only comic that I have signed and CGC certified and graded. 9.0...going to make a great heirloom. Neal signed it for me at Powers Comics in Green Bay, WI in early 2015. What a thrill to meet a true legend.
Neal Adams is a class act👍.
I became a huge Batman fan b/c of the art of Neal Adams.
Neal Adams made BATMAN great again!
Love Neal Adams, always sporting his neck ties.

The greatest artist of all time. I would give anything for the Neal Adams Omnibus to have been printed on newsprint WITHOUT the color retouching...
That color retouching is awful indeed!

Great video. I absolutely love Neal Adams and his Batman.
Great analysis by all involved. Very thoughtful piece.

Heath Ledger's joker only killed the bus driver I thought, the others killed each other at his behest.
Joker's Five Way Revenge is one of the best Joker stories ever. Probably better than any other besides the first appearance.
Awesome info!
All this talk about Bob Cane, what about Bill Finger?

Thank you. And THANK YOU.
Yeah but they killed each other because the joker instructed them to - so he at least indirectly killed them
The 60s Batman show is a great example of camp and if you get it you get it
' never picked up a comic book' what are you doing !?

Superhero fatigue is a complete myth my little sweet chocolate beauty.
Neal is great at Batman! The real Batman!!!
Neal Adams and Denny O'Neil ARE Batman.
Sorry Mark Hamill Joker was way more better than Ledgers Joker
She is cute!
It's called bad writing not super hero fatigue.

I have a bunch of books signed by neal adams
This girl is hella cute
Yeah but she had no right to do this interview over someone that has actually read a comic
More Neal Adams, less other person
1000%
manga is pretty big too.
One Piece especially
My hero academia is great
If you don't know Bill finger then you don't know Batman
Neal Adams and Denny O'Neil saved Batman, period.
Frank Miller is just a sad joke.
Are you kidding ? Year one and dark knight returns were both great.
He went downhill after that but regardless
@@Kiiieeechiii Year One was the only good thing with Batman by this raging moron. The Dark Knight Returns failed to stand the test of time.

Batman was actually the intellectual property of Bill Finger, who Kane drove into obscurity.
It's a sad sad story, really
Very true Greg. Bill Finger is the real creator of Batman.
They should re day redo Kane’s headstone to include Bill Finger.
cool

Neal Adams aging so well but can't stop thinking how Heath should've won dat Oscar. Nobody remembers who won it.
Uh, he did...
Heath Ledger won the Oscar posthumously. Director Christopher Nolan accepted the award on his behalf.

Agree with Neal 100% but Batman was created by Bill Finger - he knows that, probably just a slip ;)
He said "established" by Bob Kane which is a fexiable term at least
