He's scared of it. And he hates kineticism, so really he's not a good choice for filming action. The best cinematographers for this materials would be French DoP Darius Khondji (Se7en) or Polish DoP Dariusz Wolski (The Crow, Dark City). That's basically who Grieg Fraser wishes he were. Dan Mindel does some of the best anamorphic work, and on actual 35mm film negative, so he'd make sense if they needed to replace Fraser for some reason. Michael Seresin shot Reeves' POTA entrees. He'd have been great, but he's semi retired at 83 years old. Amir Mokri, Slawomir Idziak, Eduardo Serra, John Mathieson, Bojan Bazelli, Dion Beebe, Jeff Cronenweth, Philippe Rousselot, Adam Arkapaw and James Hawkinson would all be great options too. Deakins wouldn't be ideal.
It’s quite incredible to think about how much more we as an audience are going to feel towards Oz/Penguin when we see him in Batman Part 2. What they’ve been able to do by positioning the Penguin series between the two films is such incredible layering. I feel wayyyy more connected to the Oz character now compared to anyone from the first film, simply because we’ve been able to spend more time with him. So excited to see how this all plays out. THIS is how you use comic book IP.

For me The Batman stands above TDK Trilogy already. Look, tone, feeling, atmo. I love Nolans movies, of course, but Reeves takes it further. Batman always in the center is amazing and I wish for an amazing trilogy.

Why do directors always want to make triologys? What’s so special about the number 3? Why limit yourself? This franchise could last many years if done right.
Many movies are made without sequels in mind, but then an idea for a sequel is developed after the success of the first one. Some movies are made with a multi-movie arc already in mind. These are the two distinct approaches being described.
I still think it’s a huge missed opportunity to not explore the ‘fantastical’ characters for Reeves’ ‘Bat-Verse’ coz they truly could turn it into something unique and special. I know he said theyll get really close to it. Take ‘ManBat’ for example, I’d love to see Doug Jones cast as MsnBat in his universe… get that man in a full -creature prosthetic and they can turn that transformation into the Bat-Verse’s ‘American werewolf in London’ level of practical transformation effects and have it be the more adult versions of these characters that have powers etc… and I’m not expecting poison ivy to show up and control building sized plants etc or clayface to be a gigantic clay monster 100% etc but they could do it all in such a more horror based and like “eww” kind of way
None of that fits into the universe established by the first Batman. We have the DCU for all that. The “Reevesverse” has its own flavor and it should commit to that.

Reeves Batman won’t be a part of the DCU. Gunn has his own Batman movie planned called Brave and The Bold about Batman and Robin.

@@LegendsLiterature “Gritty realism” like Christopher Nolan didn’t do it already. How old are you? 12? It’s not that hard to admit that you’re a casual who likes commercial movies. As a Batman fan, I want comic accurate castings, comic accurate stories and definitely introducing the larger Batfamily at some point. More than 3 decades of this character being in the movies and not one of them has been comic accurate… Michael Keaton was a horrible Bruce Wayne, Christian Bale’s batsuit sucked, Ben Affleck never got his solo movie and Robert Pattinson got a terrible script (I don’t even count Val Kilmer and George Clooney, they’re not Batman movies). I definitely don’t trust James Gunn because of his cheap “toilet humor” scripts and his weird tweets about kids.
What your precious Matt Reeves is doing is making The Penguin into some knock off Goodfellas drama, just like he ripped off Se7en for The Batman Part I… just like Todd Phillips stole from Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy to make Joker (2019). Trust me bro, your “Gritty realistic” movies are just cheap knock offs of better movies… just accept the truth.
Matt, Batman has already had realistic take, look at Christopher Nolan. It's okay to add some fantastical elements to your Batman trilogy.

Really hope they’re able to repair Selina Kyle in part 2. Her whole white privilege motif really damages her character. Great tension and chemistry between her and Batman until that line. Complete buzz kill.
