that quote in the beginning gets me too man, if I'm not actively working on any of my novelettes something in me is just screaming for me to write lol, good for you I hope you find someone to publish your novel
Thank you, I appreciate that. Yes that quote captures perfectly what it's like to be a true creative. Good luck on all your novelettes and other creative endeavors!
As a 15-year-old currently struggling to find motivation to write, this was so helpful. I want to finish a novel and possibly get it published while I'm still a teenager (unlikely, but still), and you're so right about just needing to keep trying. Thank you!! :)
You got it! I hope to hear about your novel and I hope you can get it published too. Remember, age is just a number and nothing is stopping us from doing what others do, thanks for your support!
Holy heck, congrats! Ive been writing since i was about twelve, so by now ive got quite a backlog of potential ideas and WIPS, but its so exciting to see a kid fully committing and actually finishing the book! Makes a guy really want to get back into consistent writing.
Bro congrats on just making the thing exist! I’m 35 and see myself back at your age only I didn’t have the gusto to finish anything. This is inspiring. Thank you.
I really appreciate the support! It's helpful for me to hear that there are others like me who benefit from what I share. I wish you the best of luck in all of your endeavors, and it's never too late to start/finish something!
I have two feedbacks for you: On my first viewing I didn’t even realize that you were looking down reading a script. Your speaking feels so natural and authentic. Apparently this is how you write. I hope so. Read some from your book so we can get a feel for your prose, how it flows invisibly. My suggestion: With a bit of practice you will be able to say what you want to say without looking down to read a script or a sheet of notes. Keeping eye contact with a camera would be really awkward for me. You’re good at imagining, pretend your talking to a friend, a really close friend. You would be excellent. Second suggestion: Do something no other writing web site does. Take us on a day by day journey of writing a book. The struggles, the fun of creating something out of nothing. Starting with just the first vague idea for a story. Show us you living with an idea, an outline, first words. As you proceed, commenters will want to make suggestions, but I would with respect, resist . It’s gotta be your story. I have never seen this done. Writer/help sites only give summaries of what they have already done, not real-time experiences.
Thank you so much for your support and feedback, I've been working on different methods to get my points across in my video and agree that I probably need to move away from the scrip reading. And your second suggestion! Man I actually really like that idea, I've been gearing up recently for my next book and might just take your advice on documenting that process. I think it could be entertaining but more importantly helpful to other writers. It's a great idea and definitely something to consider! Thank you so much for your valuable feedback, I really appreciate you! Have a fantastic day!
Man you have no idea how much this video inspired me, I've been wanting to write forever, I can't stop thinking about it, I constantly wake up in the middle of the night and I take notes of another details or plot points I think of. I've been too afraid of getting to it and starting, and being okay with failing. I just have this constant need to write, and it's been the constant, strongest desire I've ever felt. So thank you for this!
Congrats, you're one of us. Those born to create. I'm really glad I could help inspire you, I'm excited to hear about the things you write, have a good day my friend! And thank you so much for your support I really appreciate you.
Charming authenticity. Congratulations on manifesting your words into existance. It was indeed an inpiring video. I hope you get to keep on shining by being yourself, and motivate others to do the same. I know you motivated me, at the very least. Thank you, Sam. Wishing you the best. :)
I’m working on a horror novel, so thank you very much for this video. To see that someone around my age has already gotten a book published sort of just pushes me to write, and I think you describe that urge to create something perfectly. Thanks!
congrats on finishing a book (first draft or otherwise), and great job!! i've been writing since i was 8 years old, and it was always my dream to write and publish a novel. i've started many projects over the years, but sadly other than a handful of short stories and a novella or two, have never actually finished a whole novel. now i'm reaching my thirties, and i've finally got a novel series i've been working on for the past couple years that i really feel like i'll be able to complete. i've slowed down a bit recently due to some unfortunate personal circumstances, but seeing this video was a strong reminder to keep going. thanks for the encouragement, and good luck on your writing journey! i hope you find great success and satisfaction in your work!
Yes definitely keep going! I'm rooting for your success in your creative pursuits and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm glad I could help, and thank you so much for your support, I really appreciate it. Have a fantastic day!
Great work! I totally relate to the feeling of discovering the story as you write it, and I think it's an underappreciated aspect of the process. It's like the action of writing is literally going out and "finding" the story, like collecting sticks to make a fire or something. Congrats on the story, and looking forward to what you do next!
Awesome video! Writing a book at your age is such a flex. What you said about not actually inventing the story but serving as its gateway to the real world was SO relatable, and a lot of famous authors have said the same thing. I’ve subbed and enabled all notifications so if/when your book gets published I can hopefully be one of your first customers! Keep up the great work!
Oh hey, nice video. I pray you well, especially on your upcoming projects. Personally, I'm at 56k words with my novel. It's fantasy, about fighting against corruption. I have indeed learnt that it is not easy, but I view it like work. So what if I get a writer's block? What am I going to do, not do my work? I view the block as part of my work, and I have to get over it, and I've gotten over many of them. And each time I have overcome an obstacle, it has filled me with great excitement. Personally, I'm going to commit hard. I have 12 book ideas. I didn't have as long of an outline as you, but it was a helpful one. I used the 7-point system, and it gave me about the length of a page. It was extremely helpful for me-anyone reading this will probably find it helpful, too. Stories excite me, and I'm definitely excited to be working towards my dream, although lack of motivation sometimes knocks on the door. But yet again, I get many times reminded how fun I actually find writing. I write 1000 words a day, and I encourage everyone to do the same, and go even beyond. I try not to have any free days.
A lot of wisdom in this comment. Sounds like you've got a lot of story ideas and are dedicated to the creative journey, it's great to see! Good luck my friend!
I really hope you go on with publishing your book! I am looking forward to reading it, and from another young aspiring writer, you inspire me to keep going!
I can’t outline, it just sucks the air out of me. I write what I see. In my head, or at least I think it’s my head. Maybe the vivid scenes I see come from outside me. I don’t know. I just live them and write them. On yellow paper, wide lines, black broad ink, the fast flowing kind. The feeling of happiness when it’s on paper! It is so great. Well, I’m sure you know the feeling. For the longest time I didn’t even know what the story was about. Now I do, and can’t understand why I didn’t know before. I’m just glad I got it on paper even if I didn’t know exactly what I was doing. Now I have direction, mainly because my main character showed me, Not 4:56 because I finally figured it out.
Outlining is certainly not for everyone, sounds like you came across the focus and meaning of your story just by writing it out! It's another valid way to figure it all out, I hope you find success in all your creative pursuits! Have a fantastic day!
Hey man, I love the passion and motivation I can see in your video! This is great, and I promise to get on with that novella I've been struggling to stop planning and start writing! Thank you for your words!
Your video was just on time! I am writing a book now (I have been creative, making up stories since I learned how to speak 😂) but than, in high school I got health issues (even if it wasn’t an excuse for me not to write). Real problem was that since then I have been constantly told by people surrounding me, that I’m not creative enough, not talented, I am acting like a child, I am not doing something “serious”… So I gave up on writing, until start of 2024. Ideas are rushing now like a wild stream (I did some self healing and removed some big blocks)! Thank you 🙏🏻
I've heard those exact same things about myself. Don't let others bring you down, let their doubtful words give you motivation to prove them wrong! Can't wait to hear more about your creative pursuits, have a fantastic day!
Good for you kid. I wrote a novel-lenght story when I was around sixteen. Don't let yourself stagnate. I would highly, highly, highly recommend that you do everything in your power to get enough sleep. Stay healthy. That's where the bulk of my problems started.
Wow, that's something I haven't really heard a lot before and something I should definitely watch out for, thanks. And I wish you luck in any writing/creative pursuits!
Great job my guy!!! Finishing a book is something 99% of people who WANT to write a book, won't ever do. My suggestions on next steps for you would be to join a beta reading group. Basically, you'd beta read for some other authors and they'd beta read for you. It's free and could be super useful! :)
Yes!! I've actually been part of a writers group for the past year or so, you're right it's been a huge help and I was actually thinking about doing a video about that. Thanks for your support!
Nice video! I was thinking about writing a book in these days and this video feels like the sign. So thanks for your video and you achieved your goal with It, at least for me😊
That's so so good to hear. I appreciate you. Yes! Write a book! You won't regret it. And I'd love to hear about how it goes, I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors!
Great message, and congrats on writing your first book! I've been considering giving it a try myself, so this is encouraging and inspiring! If I could also give you a tip, maybe try bullet points for your notes so you don't have to keep looking down, and it will still help keep you on track. It will also help grow more connection with your viewers. New sub here!
It’s so wonderful that you wrote a book! As a teenager myself, it is so refreshing to hear another individual my age who always keeps themselves occupied with a menagerie of differing projects. Also, if you can answer this, where did you print your book? I have a manuscript that I would love to hold within my hands, but I really don’t want to publish it as of yet.
Yes! We're not alone. And I can certainly answer your question, I used a website called Blurb. They traditionally do things like self publishing but you can easily use them to just print off a few copies, it isn't the cheapest, I think my single copy set me back about $35 but they're definitely worth checking out! Let me know if you have any other questions or anything about it, having a physical manuscript is a really cool achievement for writers like us.
I really like your message! If I could give you one piece of feedback it would be to stay facing the camera (or move the camera so it’s always directed at your face.) This will help you get your message through to the viewer.
Feedback! While the script was good, you constantly looking down to read it was weirdly distracting, I would suggest that you learn short sections of it by heart for every background cut, the magic of editing is that you can do how many takes you want until you feel satisfied haha :)
Thanks for your support! Yeah absolutely, I can't remember exactly how much it cost me but I think it was around $20-30. I used a website called Blurb, and I did have to do all the formatting and cover design outside of that program. Hope this helps!
