Not only was Bret arguably the greatest wrestler in the ring..But he deserves a lot of credit for helping birth the Attitude Era as well..Watch his heel turn manifest in 97 leading up to WrestleMania 13, it felt so real
It’s such a shame he left cause there were some great matches for him on the horizon. I still think Bret would have been the one to put Austin over at Mania
@@Bobbywoodhogan Right, if you actually look at 1997, they didn't have anyone for Bret to face outside of Shawn Austin and Taker...Fast forward to 2000 and you've got Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Benoit, The Rock, Kane, Triple H..The roster just got a lot deeper

Bret surely has to be the most authentic man in wrestling. I have heard him tell these stories so many times in different places, and never once does his story or any of the details change. You can tell that he always speaks the truth and somehow went through a career in thr wrestling business without a single blemish on his integrity as a human being. As well as being one of the very best technical wrestlers of all time, Bret truly is a hero. Thank you, Hitman!
I'm so annoyed that new fans listen to each other and peg him as a whiner and can't stop talking about Goldberg without knowing what Bret went through in his career and what he sacrificed for wrestling they would be lucky to lace his fucking boots 🤟🏽.
He guided Bulldog throughout the entire match, absolutely, but don't take anything away from what Bulldog contributed to the match. Considering the circumstances, it defied belief that they both delivered a wrestling masterpiece and, imo, the greatest match ever.
SS92 is one of my finest memories as a WWE kid fan from England I was 6 years old. To this day no Summerslam has been able to match that PPV it really still stands out to this day.
I’ve heard Bret tell these stories. Like you said, he doesn’t change them, he sticks with them. Having met him personally, Bret presents himself as an kind, authentic person who truly appreciates his fans. When I see him, he always has a warm smile for me. To me, the name Bret Hart is synonymous with the word legend.
They had another match at In Your House and that was just as good of a match as the first but this time blood was involved. Fast forward to Wrestlemania 13 with Stone Cold. I believe thats how he got the idea of drawing blood with Stone Cold because him & Bulldog’s 2nd match…they drew blood. Interesting to know that Bret was the architect of these classic matches.

I had the VHS tape of Shawn V Bret's ladder match - was also in the first issue of WWF magazine I bought. Bret V Davey Boy is still one of my favourite matches
Bret Hart was always about the business. He's amazing. When he lose, he wants to make sure that the other guy looks good, storyline wise. Got to respect the man.
Even with Montreal he was mostly pissed that they couldn’t put on the match he wanted, he had this great match that and the match we saw was only the very beginning of the real match. Same thing with Yokozuna at mania 9 he was pissed that Yoko got tired and cut like 5-7 minutes. So he gets screwed over by Vince, hogan, and HBK and he still mostly is pissed about the fact that he couldn’t put his real match on.

@Joe Runstedler for him to say that he was more popular in England than Davey he is full of shit on that one every wrestling fan in England at that time was behind Davey.
Shawn always said that he never thought that Bret respected him or saw him as good enough to wrestle. Something like that. Perhaps this Summer Slam was one of those times he felt Bret didn’t want to wrestle him. Maybe he took it personally.
You might be onto something there, HBK always seemed to everything personally and with Brets no nonsense approach, maybe that's what he couldn't get his head around
I think Shawn being eight years younger (27 years old in 1992) than Bret Hart was understanding of the situation and he seemed to handle it professionally. Despite Shawn's strong singles push in 1992, Bret vs British Bulldog in England was clearly the better draw as both those guys were more established. Plus, Bret was showing signs of amazing potential to finally be a main-event star and was very popular, so Shawn wasn't really in a position to complain and was likely happy to be getting any kind of push at all.
I'm not sure what you mean... Bret picked Shawn for the ladder match. It wasn't Bret's decision to do Wembley with Davey. I don't understand your point when Bret clearly respected Shawn as a wrestler & personally picked him for the ladder match.
SummerSlam 1992 was second pay-per-view I ever saw and it was awesome I got tape was awesome Couple years later I got to meet Bret Hart is SummerSlam 1995 super nice guy I need to make a dark side of the Ring episode on Stampede Wrestling
that summerslam match was just epic. when i first heard that davey wasn't right that day it was hard to believe but if you watch it you can see bret is doing the work to keep the pace, timing, and crispness ... this match alone earned him the excellence of execution because he was almost wrestling for two. although davey did seem to get it together about halfway through at least to the point where bret didn't have to carry it
To Brets point now that I think back on that match. Watching, there was that real feeling of who was gonna win!. Lol it tickles me thinking how intense we were into it as fans and even though, Davey was "at home" the hitman was just the kind of wrestler just thinking back who could go into someone's backyard and win. I'm reminiscing everybody what a great time to have been a fan!
That demo run of the ladder match with Shawn appeared on the WWF vhs tape Smack Em, Whack Em. It also has the house show match where Bret beat Flair for the world belt.
How many "greatest matches in WWF history" has Bret been in? Bret vs. Bulldog, submission match vs. Stone Cold, cage match vs. Owen, 60-minute match vs. Shawn, Bret vs. Hennig... how many more are there? How many "greatest" matches did Hogan have? I doubt he had one. WM3 he slammed Andre, but Andre couldn't even move at that point.
This was the only match that could rightfully claim THE greatest WWF WWE match of all time. Outdoing the great Macho Man vs Ricky The Dragon Steamboat match at WrestleMania 3. A TRUE classic we will never see again in WWE history.
The Shawn idea made sense. Brett and Shawn were doing great house show matches and even tested the ladder match concept that summer. It would have been interesting to see how Survivor Series would have played out that year after Brett won the title.
1992 was a weird year of burying the World Title on the midcard. They should have just kept the belt on Flair going to Summerslam and had Davey go over Ric in England.
I’ve heard this story before he said it it was the US he would be putting Shawn over in a ladder match but in the UK it was Davey. The ladder match he had with Shawn was decent, it’s a shame they didn’t go to that in for Survivor Series 92

Just wanted to clarify for anyone reading who wasn’t a UK wrestling fan in the ‘90s, the claim that he was more popular here than Bulldog is just not true. Heard him make this claim a few times now (more popular than Hogan here etc) and it just comes across as a bit delusional. There is one interview where he says he begged Vince to send a film crew to Germany to follow him because it was so crazy and then complains it was the wrong part of Germany when the reaction was underwhelming. UK fans were always grateful to see the big names so no doubt he did feel more popular here but I can’t even work out which tour gave him this idea that he was the main man: he lost to Dino Bravo in ‘89 and wasn’t even on the card at UK Rampage ‘91. Bulldog won the Battle Royal later that year and headlined in ‘92.
I don't think anyone can argue that Bret is in the top 5 all time, what I don't like about him is he take himself waaay too seriously. You watch these videos and Edge, Jericho and Foley are hilarious, he speaks like he's in court.
Hulk did the same with Warrior, he made himself look good when he lost, although the two men dislike each other, both were very cunning and clever individuals, both knew how to get the best deal for themselves
Hulk somewhat lifted the shoulder in the "3" during the count, he obviously was declared the loser, as per the plans, and you can see him sort of arguing with the referee in keyfabe, and then accepting the loss and lifting Warrior's hand in the afterwards. Knowing him now, it's obvious he tried to be a crybaby and have his character look as if somewhat he didn't really lost
KurtAngle89 I don’t know, I think the shoulder lifting was ok, to beat a champion in anything is never going to be easy, it can’t be easy for any athlete to be told they have to lose, I personally would want to make it hard for me to get beat, at the time Hulk maybe was happy to drop the title, but as time has passed he seems happy to twist stories a little bit, all about making himself money long after his in ring days passed
On the old show, Prime Time wrestling i think. It was during 1992. It wasnt on any PPV as far as i remember. He was one of the hosts when Perfect turned Face aswell. Vince, Heenan, Perfect, Hillbilly Jim and Duggan were on the panel.
Prime Time, the panel based show where Vince sat at a table with Perfect, Hennan and a combo of Hacksaw, Slick and Hillbilly Jim... bar Wrestlemania 7 do not recall Duggan on commentary that often
Gotta love Bret - “I was this huge star.” You don’t often hear anyone confess to that, or even say that. He was a big star, of course, but he was never afraid to tell you. He may be his own biggest fan, as well.
And you can’t argue with him. There’s a difference between confidence and arrogance. Bret is the former. If you were as good as him, you’d behave exactly the same. His confident words more than warrant his accomplishments.
@@rhanon5305 Don't be ridiculous Bret dominated Shawn in the 60 Man Iron Man match Bret had most of the attack and MADE Shawn the Superstar that he was in that match. Bret did NOT lose to Shawn in 97 so you need to get your facts right.

I bet that "British Bulldogs gonna win, whether he wants too or not!" kid forced Davey and Jim to do all that coke. Probably at gunpoint. She looks the type to do something like that.
In Dec 1993 i went to my first house show at Rosemont Horizon in chicago.. saw Shawn vs Bret in a steel cage match as the main event. Still remember it to this day and i was only 7 yrs old then.
Thank God he said he was popular in the UK........AND Ireland. Yes, he knows his stuff. Ireland is not part of the UK. Annoys me that people still don't get it. 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
WrestleMania X = a Ladder Match with "The Heartbreak Kid" (HBK) vs. Razor Ramon (Scott Hall)... MSG / The Garden (or the Mecca) (March 20, 1994) in NYC.
I’m surprised nobody mentioned Bret’s error, he said he knew he was gonna lose the IC belt 4 or 5 months after winning the belt from Mr Perfect, he won the IC belt from Roddy Pipper that reign, Perfect was a year earlier and his first reign, Bret doesn’t make many mistakes, kinda surprising.
The fact that Bret made Summerslam match with Bulldog great considering the how off his face Davey was shows he is the best there is was and ever will.
Bret would make a great manager for The Varsity Blonds in AEW. Julia can still be there (hell, she’s related to Bret, isn’t she?), but having The Hitman as the “manager” would be a major push for those guys. The crowds would pop big time for him.
The wrestling of now I cant really enjoy because i grew up with great wrestlers like bret, shawn, perfect, rude. Nowadays it's just high spots...these guys today wont last long..they are hurting there bodies and not thinking of the future. Back then was about building characters Nd building rivalries so that it will result on epic matches...nowadays all that is gone.
Aye, so Vince let his main event roam about for 2/3 months doin coke and not check in. After the venue being booked out for almost 9 months before it! On the hope that he comes to his senses and wins the title that night! Lol ok, sure 👌🏼 😂😂😂🙈🙈🙈

I don't think anyone can argue that Bret is in the top 5 all time, what I don't like about him is he take himself waaay too seriously. You watch these videos and Edge, Jericho and Foley are hilarious, he speaks like he's in court.
I agree, but he did grow up with a dungeon in his basement lol
@Liam Quinn pff, ok chief. You can be a "complex thinker" and still talk about stuff that happened about 25 years ago on a lighter mood.
Story goes the reason Bret had to carry bulldog. He was smoking crack til the morning of the match when Bret found him.
I thought that Bret said that he was supposed to wrestle a heel Jake Roberts? That would have been great as well.
The SummerSlam match was a fun chapter to read. Also Diana Hart 92 is the birth of the modern day Karen look
Bret: "I know when it's important to lose."
97 Vince and Shawn: "No, you dont!"
When was Duggan doing commentary with perfect and mcmahon?
On the old show, Prime Time wrestling i think. It was during 1992. It wasnt on any PPV as far as i remember. He was one of the hosts when Perfect turned Face aswell. Vince, Heenan, Perfect, Hillbilly Jim and Duggan were on the panel.
Prime Time, the panel based show where Vince sat at a table with Perfect, Hennan and a combo of Hacksaw, Slick and Hillbilly Jim... bar Wrestlemania 7 do not recall Duggan on commentary that often
Oh yeah the boardroom looking set on prime time 👍👍
Please always do this show the footage while The Wrestlers Talk about it
The G.0.A.T of wrestling
Some original plans on events would have turned out much. better but not this one. This event was perfect as it was.
Bret hart is my handsome Canadian wrestler of all time and I love him. He is my hero. Xxxxxxx
The British Bulldog was going to win at Wembley whether he wanted to or not.
His confident words more than warrant his accomplishments.
iTubeYourDadsMinge yeah, I love Bret. I like his confidence, but do get a chuckle out of it too.
Hbk owned bret in
95 96 97
@@rhanon5305 Don't be ridiculous Bret dominated Shawn in the 60 Man Iron Man match Bret had most of the attack and MADE Shawn the Superstar that he was in that match. Bret did NOT lose to Shawn in 97 so you need to get your facts right.
It’s not showing off if you. can back it up..And Bret definitely backed it up wouldn’t you say ?
Everyone says Bret whines and complains but could you have lasted in that business being an honest person around all that deception and politicking? Why don’t you come back and let us know how that goes.
I bet that "British Bulldogs gonna win, whether he wants too or not!" kid forced Davey and Jim to do all that coke. Probably at gunpoint. She looks the type to do something like that.
I lost brain cells reading your comment.
@@BernardMarx95 Sorry mate. I just dont trust that kid. Never have
I remember that kid from the SummerSlam ppv
"Hey Bulldog and Jim. You're gonna snort all that coke, whether you want too or not!" Like that i bet.
I don't think Bulldog could have made it up to the second rung.
bret would've figured out a way to push bulldog up the ladder but make it look right.
Every time I hear the “I’m fooked” Davey Boy story, I laugh my ass off, as sad as it is, because I can totally picture that moment when he said that.
Is this clip from Manchester comedy store ?
Cyprus Avenue in Cork!
olyosso I was there that night one of the best nights I ever had!
Bret Hart is a genius...
Boy, Bret Hart really loves some Bret Hart.
If you don't love yourself and have confidence like Bret you wouldn't be a professional. Bret has proved it over and over.
The Best!
Bret needs to be a producer/agent for WWE and/or NXT.
God i wanna watch that ladder match
Love the Hitman growing up but some things need to be left unsaid
Even tho Shawn is from my hometown Bret is #1 in my book
Is he a trainer now? What does he do?
I would like to see him more in AEW
🐐 in the ring
i always hate that Bulldog never got a legendary run with the IC belt after that
The wrestling of now I cant really enjoy because i grew up with great wrestlers like bret, shawn, perfect, rude.
Just the walkouts alone were worth the price of the ppv.
Steamboat and Hart match! That would have tore the house down!
Bret Hart made wearing pink fucking cool and only he did it for me as a kid
