Skaldak should feel honored, very few people scare the Doctor as much as he did in this clip. Of course, it doesn't help that the officer who tried to fry Skaldak gave the Doctor a reason to be afraid.
What I like about it is that Skaldak didn’t show an ounce of smiley arrogance unlike other villains, which is always an effective way of irritating me. Skaldak on the other hand showed no chuckle, no smile, he’d insult his opponents often in the episode but he’d never look down on them. He would consider himself and them on equal levels, never overconfident. It’s what I love about this episode really
He was one of the few enemies of the Dr that ACTUALLY threatened violence and you'd believe it. I really want to see the Doctor meet a being like the Doomslayer. This was a good episode, but Vincent and the Doctor was easily one of show's finest episodes ever. I'm ready for this weekend though - Empress of Mars!
Funny you should say that. There is a bit of discussion over whether or not the Ice Warriors were responsible for the trapping of the parasitic organism encountered on Bowie Base One. Considering it was trapped in an Ice Glacier on Mars, You can easily make the connection.
I don't care what anyone says, this beast of a baddie is what I call an Ice Warrior! Especially compared to the old ones, which were admittedly a bit too fat and hairy for me to be able to take them seriously.
This is in my all-time Who Top Ten. I had issues with Moffat, but he did the return of the Ice Warriors absolutely brilliantly. Superb episode. "It's not a mammoth!"
I rewatched this episode yesterday. It's a perfect presentation of British actor community and famous TV shows. It has three actors from the Crown, two actors from GOT, plus actors from Victoria and War and Peace...
This episode was a little bit disapointing. It had the chance to be really good but it was cut too short, only if it was a two-parter could it have improved, don't get me wrong it was quite a good episode but if it was longer it could've been better. It had a great senario to have a really tense atmosphere- an Ice Warrior running around on an almost sunken submarine, it's intentions unknown and it's whereabouts unknown, the submarine is badly damaged and in dire need of repair, it's a race against time. Plus we could have had a lot more character development, I know there just secondary characters and it wasn't likely we'd see them again but it would be good to feel scared for them. Plus, the Ice Warrior could've been put to it's full potential as it was a savage that had nothing to loose, after it came out its armour, and the crew would constantly need to check their backs in case they suddenly felt a large hand press against their shoulder.
That criticism can be applied to every episode in 2012-2013. All the stories in the series In that period of time felt rushed and could have been better if they had more time In the episode to include more scenes, lines or another episode to make the story feel complete. It's because of this is why I feel series 7 is the weakest series of Nuwho, because there isn't an episode which I thought was outright amazing (day of the Doctor being the exeption, but that one isn't in the series boxset) Cold War and dinosaurs on a spaceship, I feel are the best episodes in the series. I wouldn't call them classics but they were the most entertaining and the ones I had the least amount of problems with.

What's wrong with Skaldak's rough voice? If you watch any Ice Warrior episode on OldWho and Big Finish, their voice should sound like...like...like Harry speaking Parseltongue. Oh, you get the picture.
He also did just wake up after a 5000 year long nap in the ice. You try singing soprano with your vocal chords iced like that. Probably like trying to speak after a night of drinking nothing but gold glitter vodka shots.
It's funny actually, a few years before this episode, I had imagined Doctor Who doing an episode set on a submarine (even though the Third Doctor had already been on a submarine in "The Sea Devils"). And now here it is. It just shows that Doctor Who can do ANYTHING, another reason why I love the show so much.
I wonder how old the Ice Warriors are as a species, because if they are younger than the Silurians, then we have a VERY interesting possibility on our hands, suppose if they are younger, when the moon was coming into orbit suppose a few tribes of Silurians used their new technology to make an exodus from their "doomed" home-world and start a new colony on Ares (or Mars if you prefer the standard version)
