2023 CACSS Mega Silent Auction | Amazing rare cactus & succulents!

- I am so happy to be able to share the annual CACSS Mega Silent Auction event with you all. It is the biggest fundraiser event for the Central Arizona Cactus and Succulent Society. Members and their guests are invited to participate and it is unbelievably fun. All the plants are donated by members and auctioned to members with all of the money going right back to the CACSS to fund club activities. This event alone is worth the price of entry (in the form of club membership).
This event includes both a silent auction and live auction. I explain in the video how it works - it's a very simple process where all you need is a pen or pencil (and your wallet lol) to participate. You can get amazing plants way below market prices. This year's live auction featured the most incredible caudiciforms, including the largest Cyphostemma juttae that I have ever seen with my own eyes.
If you're anywhere near the Phoenix area and you love cactus and succulents I highly recommend joining CACSS. They hold monthly meetings where there is always a guest speaker, including well-known and well-respected growers, researchers, and nursery owners in the plant community. I completely fan-girled out on Steven Brack, the founder of Mesa Garden, when he was a guest speaker at a past meeting. Each meeting includes a mini-silent auction that works in exactly the same way as shown in this video - it's always full of excitement as folks have a chance to take home a special plant or plant-related item for a smashing price.

I love these videos. We have nothing like that where I live. I’m lucky if I can find a small shelf of sad looking etiolated succulents. Seeing all those amazing healthy plants in one place is mind blowing.

Omg I need to learn to keep my excitement down to keep very special plants under the radar 😂 This has happened one other time which caused me to lose the chance to buy an amazing plant at an amazing price.
Would have liked to see what you brought home. But I would lose my mind there. I live in Georgia and buy online like 90% of the time and spend a fortune because of it. Even the pottery is a steal there. Wish they did something like that here in Atlanta. 🌵 ❤
Come visit Arizona and bring a van! Is there a cactus society in Atlanta? I'll be combining everything I picked up since the fall sale in one massive haul video, which I need to work on recording. Let's just say I lost my mind buying stuff over the past few weeks...

OMG!!!!!! What a great way to add to your collection. The plant selection is spectacular. I have never seen anything like this. If I lived in the area I would be there every year. (I live in Florida). I love seeing the variety and sizes of plants and pots. Let us know what you were able to win. Do you know what the large plant is at 15:42 on your video. Is that an aloe? I have to watch this video over again. Thank you for posting it.
I think your excitement to participate every year if you were here is exactly how the members feel too! Everyone gets super excited for this auction. Now I'm always on the lookout for potential donation plants when I'm out shopping no matter what time of the year it is!

It's so nice and sunny there. Joining a cactus club to learn about them would be so interesting. I live in Alberta, Canada, the weather doesn't get like that here. But there sure are a lot of interesting cactus at that sale/auction. Sure lots with HUGE thorns, lol. Not for me, but everybody loves something different. I don't want to get stabbed, Ha! Thanks so much for taking us along. Don't know how you remember the names though.
Hopefully you were able to feel some of the sun through the video Kathy! Does Alberta have a cactus club? I've been surprised by how many cactus clubs there are all over the country and world - it's so beyond amazing. The wonderful thing about cactus and succulents is that they come in so many shapes, forms, and sizes that there's something for everybody. I'm so glad you enjoyed this auction video! I'm only okay with the genera names, not so great with the species lol!
Am I crazy for not caring about the pots my/others' plants are in? I'd rather have a plastic pot with beatuftul plant. But that what makes the hobby so fun. everyone has their own styles
Not at all! Everyone has their own preferences. Actually I'd prefer not being so drawn to pottery because then I'd have more money for plants 😝

we have these but peopple who bring the plants keep most of the money and only a portion of it gets sent to the group
Interesting, where is this? Sounds like the structure there is that people bringing the plants are selling them and then donating a portion of the sales to the club.
@@cookiescacti yea thats how it works basically they take 10% but the members here def dont have amazing stuff like in video. (In eastern canada, ontario) like a crucigera or even some of the cool little copiapoas, or that massive jute.
Do you know how much the 2 crucigeras sold for? And the jute live auction? Im very curious.

i was finally able to pick up some Copiapoa cinerea seeds off of Mesa Garden website yesterday! they usually sell out before i get to them. the Copiapoa seedlings i started earlier this year are doing well and had another randomly pop up yesterday so that was nice to see. maybe i started them when it was too hot and now that it's cooling down it was like "okay i'll wake up!" lol
