    As someone who grew up with a drug-addicted mother, this was heart-wrenching, especially because this was the kind of moment I wished I could have had with my mother, who is incapable of experiencing guilt or self-awareness of her actions. But I forgave her for myself and not for her.

      You have to forgive them for yourself because they don't know how to acknowledge that they actually did anything wrong to you no matter how obvious it is. They couldn't put themselves in your shoes to see how painful the things they've done really are. Some will never apologize, but many make disingenuous apologies that aren't sincere just to get back in to somehow use you for their own purpose. Forgive them but never allow them close enough to continue hurting you. I found out the hard way that being the bigger person and doing for them what they would never do for you, doesn't make you the bigger person, but a gullible fool..

  • @notthefather3919

    I was balling when his mother apologized. She didn't just do a general apology to appease him.
    She said..."God knows I didn't have love for you when you needed it..I know that.."
    That's a mother who is horrified at what she put him through. So this was for her to forgive herself as much as it was to forgive her.

      the best part is, it was completely improvised!
      It says in the script that Naomie Harris was supposed to light up the cigarette for herself, but when they turned the scene, Trevante Rhodes took it

    The part where she tried to light the cigarette was improvised. She was supposed to have lighted it. She couldn't and so Trevante took it and lit it. The director just let the cameras keep rolling.
    Also, according to Naomie Harris, she and Trevante met for the first time right before they shot this scene. The director, Barry Jenkins, wanted to keep the acting as fresh as possible.

    The best revenge would have been to not forgive her. He owed her nothing. He could've of told her no one will miss her and no one would go to her funeral, and that would've given just as much closure

    • @myckalaross8973
      @myckalaross8973 6 лет назад +7

      No That's wrong cause she's still his mother no matter what & always will be. Yes she was horrible to him & made plenty of bad choices. But she's admitting that she was wrong & she genuinely apologized. Better late than never

    • @prt9250
      @prt9250 2 года назад +7

      @@myckalaross8973 sometimes it is too late lmao. It may be “wrong” but people don’t owe you a second chance just because you apologized, family or not. You can cut anyone out your life that is toxic, it just depends on how much compassion you have for them.

    • @myckalaross8973

      I see what you mean and yes that’s true too. Sadly I’ve learned that from experience

    • @birdiewolf3497
      @birdiewolf3497 3 месяца назад

      Lol that is a power fantasy and I’m not sure how much closure that would given anyone. Because at the end of the day, all Chiron really ever wanted was not to overpower his mother, but for her to love him and provide him with the tenderness he was craving. She was finally in a place to give it to him. He is gonna be healed through that more than anything. The parent child dynamic is just different from other relationships. That parent child bond is literally the first attachment you experience and that shit bleeds into everything else.
      So if your parent can come to you like this, then it is usually more useful to work on repairing the relationship. Because that can be so critical to healing the cracks in your foundation.

      You should wonder about how rare it is for children to even have these moments with their parents where they apologize for the harm they caused them. Because children being unable to forgive their parents after they come to them like THIS, is less of a problem than you think. I mean kids still regularly offer forgiveness in the absence of an apology.
