The restaurant of ten years that I worked at had an owner like Julie and her daughter except was the owners family. The food quality was not as bad as Mangia-Mangia but the work ethic and morale in the kitchen was super bad back there. There would be so many nights that i'd be alone during the middle of rush because everybody was outside smoking (or doing drugs). The owner would be in his office playing on his computer and the servers would be yelling at me while i'm grilling, frying, and plate-loading all at the same time. The owner would flip-flop between telling me that i'm the best employee to calling me a filthy ingrate for even daring to look for another job (I still do not know how he knew I was looking when I stopped putting him as a reference)
One of gordon's advice is to never have family member or friends in your business and i agree with that. It is hard to "correct" a family member in a professional setting.

The most successful places use his menu for a few month then begin adding in stuff that gives them a personality. 30:00 Exactly, when I don't like the food at a restaurant I just don't go back. I pretty much only complain if there's a real problem with what I ordered or something similar (like getting a dirty glass or the time we found a shelf bracket in a salad, both times well handled by the restaurant).
I have not, and I don't even plan to leave the USA. I have 50 different states I can visit and so much history in the land to learn that I have no need too. On top of that every state is the size of many countries themselves. We're still finding things, recently found a giant ancient wall in Montana that was just hidden by woods. So many artifacts from the native tribes from 1000+ year old buildings all over the place plus tools to be found.
Looking at Yelp, the restaurant has closed now. It seems to have been closed after a few more months. The Prices were too high, the food was now fresh, but the quality was still not amazing. Also the staff was not very nice.

I love and hate kitchen nightmares. When I worked in my restaurants, we cooked and prepped everything daily. Mashed potatoes weren't kept for more than 2 hours. Produce was bought every 4 days. This is insane.
This is what happens when someone with no knowledge of the industry opens a restaurant. She chose to fill a gap in the market by making a restaurant that serves a type of food nowhere else nearby was serving. Fine, that works so long you know the basics of how to run a restaurant, and what people would expect walking in to a Italian restaurant. She clearly didn't. If I go to a Italian restaurant I expect handmade pasta, handmade meatballs, etc. I will be unhappy if it's clearly frozen food, that I could have bought at the store and made myself.
There was a channel that I follow called Mermaid Grove, the guy covers the aftermath of these visits, like if the restaurants are still open today. Might be worth checking out for a react.

30:00 Exactly, when I don't like the food at a restaurant I just don't go back. I pretty much only complain if there's a real problem with what I ordered or something similar (like getting a dirty glass or the time we found a shelf bracket in a salad, both times well handled by the restaurant).

I have not, and I don't even plan to leave the USA. I have 50 different states I can visit and so much history in the land to learn that I have no need too. On top of that every state is the size of many countries themselves. We're still finding things, recently found a giant ancient wall in Montana that was just hidden by woods. So many artifacts from the native tribes from 1000+ year old buildings all over the place plus tools to be found.

God dude literally the only good person is the waitress that kept going to Gordon, she could easily work at any other restaurant and do fine.

Looking at Yelp, the restaurant has closed now. It seems to have been closed after a few more months.
The Prices were too high, the food was now fresh, but the quality was still not amazing. Also the staff was not very nice.

I love and hate kitchen nightmares. When I worked in my restaurants, we cooked and prepped everything daily. Mashed potatoes weren't kept for more than 2 hours. Produce was bought every 4 days. This is insane.

its crazy bc they know Gordon is coming, so this is the restaurant at its very best.
This is what happens when someone with no knowledge of the industry opens a restaurant. She chose to fill a gap in the market by making a restaurant that serves a type of food nowhere else nearby was serving. Fine, that works so long you know the basics of how to run a restaurant, and what people would expect walking in to a Italian restaurant. She clearly didn't. If I go to a Italian restaurant I expect handmade pasta, handmade meatballs, etc. I will be unhappy if it's clearly frozen food, that I could have bought at the store and made myself.
For those wondering, mangia mangia (the restaurant in this video) is permanently closed.
