I thought the last time I saw them in 2008. Some how the music is more “mellow” but more intense. I saw them for the first time in 1993ish. They’re like the velvet underground of heavy music.
this is absolutely that ! They are all strong personnalities, complementary also in the sound, there is a dark mysticism about that. A faith without the need of a god.
Every time I see Steve Von Till playing the drums during the song’s intro, he always looks possessed and it seems like he transports himself to another plane of existence.
I feel like there is some saying out there about the 5 D's of shamanism (or something like that), and drumming is definitely one of them. Basically a list of methods for entering a sort of trance state.
This song exists to punish you sonically. Once it has rebuilt your understanding of what music is and can be, then you will be able to enjoy it without wincing.
Crushing. "Good headphones" don't have to be $200US+, but if you can listen to this with decent headphones, Do It! They captured the bass (guitar, drum, tones, etc.) really well here. Fuck yeah. People who call this "boring" just don't want to give it the effort. This sounds great with my cheap studio speakers, but it's only "HUGE" with my headphones. There's no way to experience this with laptop speakers or a god damn phone speaker. I don't have a subwoofer with my speakers. Anyway god damn good shit aye?
I think it was a better experience when they had the backdrop visuals going. I’ve seen them live twice, first when they were opening for GWAR in 96, 97, and I s my pants after seeing them open. 20+ years later still digging on them
Loved this album since it came out- top 3 metal albums of all time for me- and this is best live version of TSIB I've heard (I need to see them while I can); cheers Kenneth!
@@scourgetv Pantera AND Clutch were watching Neurosis IN the crowd? Wow. I assume that was the tour line up or did they happen to be playing in the San Jose area the same night? I bet that was awesome! Were you able to talk with any of them?
Don't understand how I spent so much of life unaware of these guys.. plenty of music I love clearly influenced by these guys, and they are clearly influenced by bands I love too.. this feels like a foolish position to be In hahaha I love amebix, I tolerate Swans... is there a little king crimson and crass in here too??? This fucking gold
I find it interesting how ive been into metal since i was basically able to understand how to hear music. So birth. I never got into neurosis till now. Not sure if its a good thing i am able to enjoy it now or if i heard it younger. Tbh i feel my younger self would have turned away from it cause its not "fast enough" but the anger and darkenss is there so who kkows. Anywayx i love this song now.
Same here... I was 26 when I started listening which was more than 10 yrs after I started listening to metal. The tempos and their voices were off to me. It was too nuanced, there was too much subtlety for me. I'm over 40 now, I don't think there is a more moving band in metal. Or a more interesting band. Neurosis is in my top 3 favorite bands for sure. And if they are on, they can't be beat live.
Best live band in heavy music ever!! This video quality is damn amazing! Im going to see them in Aug @ Paradise Boston for the 1st time and I couldn't be more excited!!
Through silver in blood we stand Judged not by eyes of flesh When transit times cross Prey vision consumed Bleeding one Bleed alone Breeding love Windstorm promised the teeth Strained eyes see glory Rings end in slow death Wash out your wound Rings end in slow death Don't crawl Seek his burn of war When the fallout comes He is fire
I tend not to like live versions/performances of songs I listen to. What really struck me about this is not only did I love it, but it was one of the only times I’ve watch one and literally thought “holy shit dude fuck yeah” (only other performances I can think of atm is one of Helpless Child - Swans, in fact I kept thinking about that as I watched this). Not to mention how gripping the whole thing was, I never even checked out. I love this shit man
bro I love you, your vids inspired my a lot when I was just a little drummer boy. thank you for your work. still listening to draw you from the sun to this day.
Was lucky enough to catch them in Dallas, easily the best show I've seen. Not only was the playing on point, but they created this dark atmosphere that almost glued you in place. Really intense show overall.
I saw them in Austin. It was amazing too. The heavy moments was like having your souls crushed while the atmospheric moments entranced you. When I heard the beginning to “Through The Silver And Blood” I wanted to get down on all fours and revert back to the primal beings we once were.
Saw this tour nyc, cbgb's, just before that place changed. Was visiting family and friends, just happened to coincide. Was still a fairly rough area, which added to the night. I recall the place being packed, no room to move, and punker dogs worming their way between everyone's legs. Thought I'd get bit for sure. Loud. Guess the dogs were used to it Edit - yes, of course people were screaming "pain of mind ". Derrrrp
Going thru my Neurosis fix again & just found this gem. Thx for posting. This is the friends & family show right? If so, I was there & it was amazing. 🤘
yeah. the last part of the song is long as hell for a reason. after getting into that mood i mean i could just murder someone for nothing. so it's good to have that part dropping gently and giving some space to band members to chill out.
@@gradynelson It has the opposite effect on me. It calms me. I start to smile as a euphoric feeling comes over me. My god I want to see them live again.
This is not my music, I have "a sun that never sets" which I never listen, to boring, I m more into hc, crust or grind. But here I face the mountain, and at the end there is a tko of mine ! Intensity has never been so intense. At the end you can't clap, you fall down, shut the f___up and cry !
Let me rephrase a posting I made yesterday on Banger about this. Neurosis is "better" musically, or maybe just more sober here, but Crash Worship still puts on a better show, especially the off-grid ones, with a very similar style here, hypnotic. Similarly, a recent Mr. Bungle youtube show, noone is moving or dancing, and I can't blame Dave Lombardo or anyone in the band, but what is wrong here? How could this be better? I guess it depends on the person, I am not on heroin, I don't want to take a nap at a show. I partied with Neurosis a few times in SF, they are friends with my friend Ben, from Bitchcraft, that scene in the 90's is a fond memory now I guess. Where is the fun factor? All of Crash Worship recordings, to me, like Gwar, I don't care about the albums, but live holy pickle juice!!! total freakshow.
Right now I am crying because I just found out what happened. This used to be one of my favourite bands on this earth. I curse this day.
The best band on this Earth.
That vibrating drum cam is the best thing ever.
Yeah. He’s a beast
I noticed that too. It adds to the feel of the song if that makes sense?
This is absolutely ridiculous. I don't understand *how* they're as intense as they are. You don't watch Neurosis, you experience them.
Yep
Fuck, I think they just get more intense the older they get.
Yes
I thought the last time I saw them in 2008. Some how the music is more “mellow” but more intense. I saw them for the first time in 1993ish. They’re like the velvet underground of heavy music.

Steve, Scott, and Dave are fkin vocal powerhouses
Every time I see Steve Von Till playing the drums during the song’s intro, he always looks possessed and it seems like he transports himself to another plane of existence.
He does
And probably is!

I was lucky to see this debut release night in Portland 1996 bought the album there...
I saw them open for biohazard and pantera in corpus in 96.
I saw them in Dallas opening for Gwar in 1996 or 1997. We went for neurosis and they owned the nigh.
holy fuck they sound phenominal live
This is the closest performance of this song as it was was performed in 97. Best one I've seen in a long time. Amazing

incredible performance/band/album/long live the mighty Neurosis
This is like having your eyes pulled out through the back of your head. Brutal.
Jody Creel yeah, totally! Those sounds they get, especially in the last few minutes, totally come from another level.
This is the neurosis I love

that drum jam in the end of the song!! always gets me
power of the song is bursting out of screen. it's an experience. thank you.
I've never seen a bassist slide as much as Dave. Every song he's just sliding all over the place.

Not unusual for them to throw their drumsticks after this song. Wasn't actually throwing them at Jason.
