Interesting to see the "anachronic" option fort the scenary: a german and roman story displaced into the context of the wars between the French Revolution and the Ancien Régime, the Monarchies of Europe. The soldiers of the French Republic represent vulgarity, corruption (they stole the works of art) and terrorism and Arminius , as a symbol of personal power, seems to be more ethical! Important to remember that Handel wrote his opera sixty years before the revolutionary epoch: it creates a superposition of temporalities almost illegitimate. Marvellous Lauren Snouffer and Cencic, with so many Lamenti in the purest baroque line...

What a wonderful cast of singers, and a Handel work I was not familiar with. But where was this performed? The city, theater and orchestra deserves some recognition!
Pregevole signore, scusate, mi permetto umilmente di affermare ciò che segue: l opera barocca Arminio di georg Friedrich haendel è paragonabile all opera Rodelinda dello stesso haendel. Per diversi motivi. Saluti.

i dont understand why these modern stagings always need to change everything. they turn a german pagan tribe vs roman battle which hardly any operas take place during into this french revolutionary period which hundreds of operas take place in. you cant even use the excuse that its been done the same way to death since handels arminio is rarely done. people haven't even seen it the way it was intented but they still feel the need to subvert it. too bad the much superior biber's arminio isn't ever performed.
@@dizdirasamira Yes, I'm satisfied with that. At least the costume is relatively elegant. I swear some opera productions put the singers in burlap bags and rags.
Absolutely agree with you. They allow crazy directors to show off their lack of talent. They say it's to make them relevant. To what? A cage of baboons? I saw a production of Un Ballo in Maschera, which opened with a row of men seated on lavatories and included a male rape. Ridiculous and an insult to artists and audiences.
@@coreyhamilton53 Countertenors are not castrati, they don't sound like them whatsoever. Unlike countertenors, they made used a lot of chest voice. There's a reason why women voice young boys in animated shows. A man using falsetto would be laudable, that's why it's only used for humoristic purpose by real classical singers. 🤣 I'm truly thankful for french baroque opera, where they are not welcome.
@@athtarasterios9695 Cencic is performing the castrato alto part, which should be sung in a full chest voice. Head voice would be the castrato soprano part, of which Farinella and Senesino were famous for. If you want castrato soprano, listen to Scholl or Jaroussky.
@@coreyhamilton53 No a contertenor is not and never will be a good proxy for a castrati. Ever. Women in should sing these parts or male singers. Countertenors are a fad and a horrid travesti. There's nothing quite as revolting a manly character sang in falsetto. Just horrible and completely breaking verisimilitude.

A gorgeous staging and fabulous singer/actors. Thanks for bringing us this most beautiful Handel opera. Pure pleasure!
BRAVA Gaia Petrone as Ramise ! Excellent performance of this not-so-easy aria 00:38:06 - Sento il cor per ogni lato
By far the best recording of this aria anywhere on RUclips! All the embellishments are elegant and the clarity of her voice is extraordinary.
Handel was Late 17th Century & Early 18th Century? The hair styles encompass both worlds!
Fantastic.
Viva el gran Haendel❤❤❤

How encouraging that this has had many views in 2years for what to many is lesser known work of Handel.

Haendel is predictably good.... he's not creating puzzles like Bach, just entertainment of a high caliber.

Trovo assai indecenti le interruzioni pubblicitarie. Cercate di evitarle almeno nella musica classica. È vergognoso

Agree. At least this time the staging is more or less contemporary of Haendel's time.

I hate countertenors so much... They ruin every baroque opera they touch.
You can't be serious😂 Baroque opera is literally defined by the castrato alto & soprano voices.
