A very cute, semi-puppet, even childish, but the best, in my humble opinion, performance of this opera.
We are mourning the death of Patricia Janečková, the excellent Slovak soprano who died of cancer at the age of 25 on October 1st, 2023 (the same day Karel Gott died in 2019). We love you!

I found out about her through this very performance of Acis and Galatea. What a shame she has passed away. I hope she is in a better place now singing carefree

My God, what an extraordinary performance, with the puppeteers conversing with the performers in moments of extreme sweetness! A special bravo to Patricia Janečková and to Jana Semerádová, invaluable as both conductor and flute performer!

Indeed 'Dutch Video Productions' has put up a very good 'In memory of Patricia Janečková' video. From winning Talentmania (CZ/SK eqivalent of BGT) in 2010 to her funeral in Ostrava yesterday (Saturday) pm. ruclips.net/video/icBJoBkvg70/видео.htmlsi=fyDaCHWOO-3kf1eL , but seems to have missed this.

Once I've seen Patricia with her wonderful performance the first time I fell in love with her voice. What a characteristic but natural timbre. It's hard to accept that she lost her life that young. It's so so sad😢
patricia was a sweet beautiful young woman who did not deserve to die so young!! although we are left with the videos of pj singing on you tube, i think a book, documentary, stage musical, film or a cd/dvd of all her best songs should be written, produced & released, subject to her family's permission!! patricia's name should not be allowed to fade away like a leaf in a storm!!

The most charming performance of this opera I have ever seen. The idea with the puppets is original, it evokes a real theater, while preserving the Baroque style. The freshness of young, yet excellent artists, accompanied by a great musical enesemble, makes the performance a truly unique gem. Suzy Bannion, many thanks for posting it!
How absolutely charming--with original instruments, clearly enunciated libretto, not to mention, clarity of tone! This production delights us precisely because it evokes the spirit of the original production.

Thanks for posting this. It is definitely my favorite performance. The world of music truly lost a treasure when Patricia died from cancer. We're lucky to have many of her performances on video to enjoy.

Thanks to the cruel vagaries of fate, all those who love Patricia Janeskova and her beautiful soprano voice now know what it means to feel bereft. What a painful tragedy for one so gifted and full of promise to die at 25.
It is also a valuable lesson for us all, to refrain from the expectation that we are going to live into ruinous old age.
A wise saying has been uppermost in my mind since 1st October 2023: 'It's always later than you think'. To take that to heart leads to making the most of the day, focussing on the present moment and totally appreciating those we love.

She was 20 when she sang this wonderful version of Acis and Galatea...why taking her and not this witch of Miss Nuland who has spread havoc in Ukraine since 2014 ??? Has Satan taken over Zeus's job ?

@@michaelhirst4191 Ah did I guess wrong? I am in Florida and we often get European places mistaken. Patricia was lovely and a great singer, from the comments, I know that she died far too young, very sad.

She has been honoured after her death both in Ostrava, where she lived, and now in Slovakia, where her ashes have been laid to rest in the historic st Andrew’s cemetery in the middle of Bratislava. Only those who have brought fame and honour to Slovakia can now be buried there.

The instruments were great. The singers were up to their usual warbling
The same set is staged in Luxembourg in February 2024...just in case one would be interested in attending ...of course some singers will be different and everyone will recall the passing of Patricia...😰
I wonder who Galatea will be. Of course, nobody can really replace Patricia, but it seems that the opera world is in a contest to see who will carry her legacy into the places she had the dreams of being but never made it and actually know that they are doing so. I say "know that they are doing so" because sopranos generally don't like being compared to one another, even being compared to dead predecessors unless said predecessor is being openly commemorated.
@@StuartSimonWent to Mersch (LU) on Feb. 18th, and the set was really good, and the whole spectacle was just great ! Only 2 of the initial singers were singing in this new performance in Luxemburg. The orchestra was a bit shrunk to fit essentially the size of a chamber orchestra, but overall it was still OK. The acoustics were a bit moist, absorbing, although pleasant...and the marionettes !!! very impressive. Identical to this youtube version...

patricia's name must not be allowed to be forgotten! a book, documentary, stage musical or film cannot be hard to write &/or produce! a best of cd/dvd of her best songs would very easy to be put together!!
