    My preferred settings for Normal:
Max speeds - leave at max
Max Angular Velocity: 35-40 ‘ /s (more for Sport; less for Cine)
    Yaw Smoothness: 60
Brake Sensitivity: Set to max (highest)
    Gimbal Max Control Speed - 20 ‘/s
    Tilt Smoothness 25

I was once a student at Wittenberg, along with Horatio and Hamlet. I do believe you were a professor there who taught the three of us about the flights of Daedalus and Icarus. You warned of the perils of flying too high or too low and the necessity of smooth flying. Ever since those days at university, I have followed your smooth-flying advice. Thank you, my professor.

    • @IaninLondon

Forsooth! For I am indeed Daedalus preaching to my army of Icaruses (Icarusi?); fly smooth, fly good; not too low; not too high.... You have been warned :)

I really am enjoying playing with my Mini 4. I haven't had a drone for a few years and I found that the sticks are very small with not a lot of room to wiggle them about on the Controller to get precise gentle filming movements.
To help me alleviate this predicament I changed the Expo settings so that when I start to move the sticks the drone moves slowly and cautiously and when I'm happy to "Give it the Beans" then I move the sticks further away from their central/neutral resting position. And when I want to move from "Full Beans" to more precise controlled movements, then I have more room to play and control what I'm doing when moving the sticks inwards.
I shall experiment with Nifty though as I was uncertain what the mode did.
BTW loving filming my drone at night. I haven't experimented with Night Time mode because the Dlog does such an excellent job with its 10bit colour profile.

Excellent tutorial. Movie and TV camera operators avoid jitter by panning no faster than 7 seconds for a fixed object at one side of the frame to arrive at the other - so the angular pan/turn rate will differ when zoomed in. I'd set that rate for the wide angle shots unless having to do critical shots in zoom.
The other thing which overcomes jitter is motion blur - achievable with ND filters - and the 180° Shutter Rule BUT I've never seen a good article which takes zoom, slo-mo and media frame-rates into account. And if you are videoing for TV in Europe, it's different to filming for publishing on RUclips... Your next video, Ian?

    Hi Ian,
Thanks for this great information, been watching it over and over again. I am a professional photographer for 25 years, owned a Phantom 4, recently got the M4P. As far the Yaw Smoothness and Speed are concerned, I was thinking to set them to least smooth and the speed about moderate under the N mode. The reason for me to do that is simply to compose the image fast, especially composition with leading lines, such as road, railway tracks, rivers or any other geomatricaly shape subjects. I find that if the smoothness is too high, or even moderate, it will be difficult to fine tune the camera. I found I spent lots of time positioning the camera. Now, If I set the smoothness low, say "1", it will be easier to do the fine tuning. Maybe I am a photographer, use to control and fine tune the angle on the tripod.
As soon as I have composed the scene, I would switch to C mode and begin filming.
The other thing to note that the default mode for the RC2 is N, thus that will make it easier for me to compose the image. However, I would have to remember to switch to C mode before I start recording.
    Appreciate your thoughts.

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  5 месяцев назад +1

Hi Steve; what you say makes sense from a photographer's perspective. Set up fast and shoot. These are all aimed at video filming, where camera movement needs to be far slower and measured. If you film video as well, then as you say, have fast movements for N or S mode, and slow movement settings for C mode.

👍👍 Great tips Ian! I just received my new Mini 4 Pro this week and was really shocked at how rowdy the default settings for both _Cine_ and _Normal_ modes are, especially _Cine,_ as compared to my old Mini 1. And _Max Descent Speed_ set at 5 m/s is plummeting! It sounds like a doomed helicopter falling out of the sky caught in irrecoverable Vortex Ring State. But I'm definitely going to try _Nifty Bypass Mode_ as _Normal_ mode feels very restrictive when trying to slowly fly FPV around our fenced in yard with trees and shrubs scattered about.
    Thanks again & Merry Christmas!😁

Those are all very important settings, but still yet, not so easy to understand. I'm a professional pilot, but I know from talking to hobbyists, that it really confuses them, and I can understand why. So I wish DJI would add in "templates", which will set the drone behaviour to simply match a descriptive name; "Easy, Jumpy, Naughty, Stealth" etc.
