As a trail runner who uses routes on my watch, it's not just the brightness but the resolution of the AMOLED screen. Even on the Fenix 7, Maps are kind of clunky and pixelated but with the Epix 2 they are so much clearer and easier to navigate.
I agree
@Ralph Reilly Not even close. They are a completely different user experience when it comes to maps. I have to zoom in two more times on my Fenix 7X to get the same trails I see on my Epix 2.
Thank you! This is possibly the most helpful review for me for a different reason than you’d think. All the things you mentioned you’re not using It for I do. Most of your negatives turn it into positives for me. Granted I need to try it on first as I’m a woman and I’m not sure if my wrist can handle it… I currently have fenix 5s plus and I love it to bits but the battery can’t even last a HM race with music on so I want an upgrade. Im also a hiker and go to VERY remote places so the gps is really a safety feature for me. Considering that you use it all day everyday I’m not sure if the price is that much of a stretch tho. Especially if it can actually save your life (my fenix 5s actually did help me a few times in a fog in the mountains). I think it all boils down to how you use it and what you need it for. Your review pushed me a bit more towards the Epix over Fenix. Fingers crossed my wrist can take it 😅
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. This is a great representation of how valuable the watch can be! Yes I would definitely see how it feels but I just started testing the 955 and holy cow it has a lot packed into it for a smaller watch. You could look at the 7S, but the screen is smaller than the 955. I would say go with that second (955). And the battery life is going to be much more extensive for a half marathon with music. I’m not quite sure what the calculations show for the Epix running music for a long race. But either way definitely upgrade! The new metrics are so so much better than the 5 series. By a large margin on the wellness side. And if you hike a lot you definitely should consider one of the watches with 1.3 inch screen and touchscreen because it makes the maps so truly functional
That is so true, because of my job I have to see time or other metrics instantly, no hands movement, and I feel weired when my AW is constantly illuminating on my wrist… trasflective or MIP screens are so much natural for me …
I think a lot of us are coming to this decision where we really look at what we need, and what we don’t need, and whether or not we can justify the purchase. I know Dave over at CTS just released a similar video on battery life, but he also touched on some of these topics. You guys are all putting out great content!
Thanks so much! That’s really great to hear you feel that way. Yes Dave is great. He’s loving the Epix though haha. Thanks again!
Thanks for this real life one month use review. I was so tempted in getting the Epix 2 when it first came out but the size was a major sticking point. Can't imagine sleeping in it and wearing it all day long. A bit too heavy for me. A venu 2 with training metrics will be a great watch but I don't think Garmin is going to go down that route anytime soon
I’m an IRONMAN athlete, do trail running, MTB, sailing, hiking….I was on the edge to upgrade my Fenix 5X plus for Fenix 7x or even a Epix 2 for his amazing AMOLED screen but the limited battery life and the missing flashlight makes me think twice. But with a tactix 7, I got a Fenix 7x with aviation capabilities like METAR (airport weather forecast) and TAF (predictions for weather forecast), moving map with radio navaids and airports, radio frequencies, everything I need as a student pilot. Great back up if the flying instruments shut down. peace of mind. I learned from my military background that « 2 is 1 and 1 is nothing ». For the SPO2, unless you are altitude acclimate to the Everest base camp, that’s pretty gimmicks so SPO2 off for me. Thanks for sharing great content on your channel.
YESSS - the Tactix 7 is honestly the watch I want, but can't afford - I honestly love the build design over the F7X personally. It, to me, is the best in class - bravo on the choice and thanks for commenting.
And so sorry for the delayed response - just catching up.
And question - any noticeable struggle w the weight for the long races like IRONMAN? That's impressive - not that you wore a F5X, because I wouldn't mind it myself - but that you've been completing them
Great review, as always. It’s good to hear a fair but critical review based on real world use. Thanks for doing this.
Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad you feel it helped.
I love my Epix. And love the navigation, I never get lost in the woods after I get the Epix
Yes totally. The mapping on the AMOLED screen is awesome too
Personally, it all depends on the individual's use. As for me, I'm not much of a hiker or an adventurer that's in the wild for weeks so using the Epix Gen 2 is way more than what I need as a fitness watch as well as a smartwatch. If I need an insane battery life, an Enduro would take the ultramarathon run, etc. So overall, Epix Gen 2 is a very good everyday fitness and smartwatch for most people.
Yes totally! I love the Epix screen, but at end of day I went for enduro 2 for larger!
Epix is a luxury watch.
I love the watch as a runner. Training status, load focus, exercise load, 7-day load, stamina, and beautiful maps when in long runs. It allows me to randomly take roads and then not worry about how to get back. Priceless.
Can I get the same results with a cheaper Garmin watch. Yes. Again, this is a luxury watch.
Multi-band has been great for me. Last 10k race was off by .02 miles. Important because it increases average pace accuracy on my races.
The AMOLED screen on gestures mode is a great combination for longer battery. Battery has never been an issue.
I love this watch and no way I can return to AW. Charging every night. Hard pass.
Yes totally get that - again, it's definitely the best of all worlds on the market today. To have all of the training, recovery, and wellness features mentioned and with a super brilliant screen and super long battery life (for this tech) is hitting on all points. Thanks for sharing!
It not luxury watch lol Rolex or patek Philip are luxury
The basic metrics that Garmin measures 24/7 is worth it to me. I’ve been in remission from AML leukemia for about a year and a half. Those basic metrics along with the fitness data are useful to me beyond basic fitness. I haven’t had a watch that comes close to Garmin. I sold my Apple Watch 8. These watches really are useful to me even though I’m not an athlete like you guys. I got a brand new epix titanium for $750. I couldn’t pass that up. Apple is so good at integrating their products. I wish that they would have better health and wellness data. Like 24/7 heart rate, stress, you know basic recovery metrics. Anyways sorry for the babble lol. Us southerners talk to much sometimes 😅. Love your real honest reviews. I trust you. Cheers from upstate SC
Ha! Greetings from NC! Apple does a lot of things really well, but really falls short on the wellness, recovery, workout analysis, and training analysis data! Regarding this video at the end of the day I think I just really wanted the larger screen of the 7X/Enduro two, and was just more used to the other screen technology, but the amoled screen of the Epix is awesome, and you got it for a huge deal - good call! Hope it serves you well.
Cheers. I have Ph+ ALL whic is a rare subtype of ALL. Sucks.
@@AlexanderMason1 Gosh I hate to hear that. I hope you will be in remission soon!
Thank you, I think you have helped me decide that I don't need this watch, everything you mentioned I won't use either and the price of it is just crazy, I can't justify paying that much for a watch. What would you recommend? I have the Samsung galaxy watch 4 classic and I like it but want to upgrade for something that can track my CrossFit workouts, considering just the standard fenix 7 🤷🏻♂️, the flashlight is tempting but I can just use my phone too.
I’m torn. I’ve just bought the epix and love the features since I only had a Fitbit before so it’s like going from a go-kart to a Ferrari. I wanted to get the best watch out there as an investment. However, I am also a CrossFitter mainly and feel I’m not making best use of the features since I don’t the use maps and didn’t realise that my CrossFit workouts wouldn’t feed into my VO2 max score. That said, i can see your POV, if you already owner a fenix 6, the extra price isn’t worth the upgrade. I don’t know whether to get something else instead of the epix with same features but better vaulue
Good review and all good points, I sent my all black Epix back too. Here are a couple more reasons :
- it's bulky and still fairly heavy for a runner or to wear under a shirt/sweater in everyday life.
- the GPS, even in multi-band, is NOT that accurate when it comes to pace. Sure the tracks look nice in dense urban areas, especially compared to the F6 that was really poor there, however I found in side by side comparisons that on a track the lowly Venu 2 did better for distance and therefore pace. Don't ask me why, but I verified it on several runs.
- For runners the weight and bulk means that the wrist HR will not work as well as the HR on the Venu
So as you've probably figured out by now I swapped it for the 1/3+ priced Venu 2 as I wanted to keep the beautiful OLED screen. Sure the metrics are lacking (assuming they're valuable in the first place but that's another story, Stamina for instance, not actionable in my experience) but it has VO2Max, HR obviously and Body Battery which has to be the best FB metric so far as you point out in another video. Also Runalyze shows the recovery after each upload.
I need to point out that I own a 200€ Edge 530 for my bike rides, outdoors and indoors and it computes all the training effect/load from runs with the Venu 2 so I'm covered there...but again, assuming these metrics are "actionable".
Great summary of your experience! And great solution to make the Venu2 functionally work for the training aspects! That’s really great information, thank you so much for sharing it all. Yes on the Venu2 the screen truly just fits!
@@fitgearhunter Yeah for 500€ I get two devices for half the price of the Epix ;-)
Oh and I didn't mention it above but in my eyes the Venu 2 strikes the best balance between size, thickness and design, it's just a good looking watch that can take any 22mm strap, including the 20€ AE band Ti band (similar design to the 200€ Garmin Ti band) I'd gotten for the Epix.
@@Peakabike yes yes yes. Totally agree. If the V2 had training aspects it would be top dog for me. Hoping for a forerunner variant with AMOLED but thinking they won’t release one until next year to enhance sales of Epix before introducing the technology to other lines - they’ve clearly figured that part out
thank god am still holding on my 945lte after your recommendation and am getting more than a week on battery life, this watch never leave my wrist
That’s awesome! The screen on the Epix is truly incredible, and that with the good battery life is just freakishly awesome. Just didn’t feel like it could be justified by the large price!
Just upgraded from the Fenix 6 sapphire to the Porsche Design Epix 2. I’m getting used to the Epix 2 but I really did like my Fenix 6.
Yes I hear you - it was a harder adjustment for me as well to the AMOLED screen - was just so used to the muted MIP tech on the older watches. But otherwise - it's a whole different experience to have the brilliant display!
I'm tented to buy a Garmin Venu 2, but is much expensive on Brazil, otherwise the Huawei GT3 I can get for a "affordable" price. I'm focued on calisthenics. Do you think GT3 or GT Runner are good options? Also, I agree with yoy about Amazfit sensors, they're crap.
Yup! They have definitely increased the quality of their offering all around. I am retesting the GT3 heart rate accuracy after a larger update and it has, so far, been super accurate even for strenuous activities like CrossFit or high intensity interval training. Their metrics for Running are also pretty good, and pretty interesting. I don’t run primarily so I did not test them extensively but I would say they are a solid offering all around at a much better price. And they offer considerably more training features than Venu2 would offer as well
Have epix 2 sapphire titanium black. Love every bit of it. Would prefer a bit bigger size like fenix 7x but still love the clock.
I know - I sold my Epix to a friend and still have watch envy - it's so awesome to look at. Was just too much for my current budget. Glad you're enjoying it!
I just got this second hand for 650$ after I could not get my Huawei gtr 3 to connect to Strava! Your videos have been a deciding factor. Thanks 🙏
You got one for $650?! How in the world did you do that? Is it the $900 version or the thousand dollar version with Sapphire glass and titanium bezel? I am so jealous that is a freaking steal! You are winning. It is a bazillion times better than the GT3, a bazillion
@@fitgearhunter titanium version. Bought it in mint condition with the charger no box off of swappa 🤟🏼
@@bigmo21y that is a total score. Good job.
Ya, I did a lot of research on various channels including this one, and got the Fenix 7S Saphire Solar. Still paid a lot but I moved from my OLED Samsung Active 2 and don't miss it (that much). Love the Garmin ecosystem (although the app needs work), size, battery life, maps, and the display is more than fine. Still haven't tapped into all the features. I am actually kind of getting into its understated display and I imagine outdoors in the summer will be great. Even with the smaller watch, I don't always feel like sleeping with it on and thought the bigger Epix would be too big and clunky for me.
Great summary! Yes I totally agree that the 7S is a great solution for a smaller watch, really one of the best. You will definitely appreciate it outdoors, that’s for sure. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and thoughts, these are some great comments!
I am looking for a great all around garmin watch would u recommend the fenix 6 pro or venu 2 plus
Great question - the Fenix 6 Pro but only if you can pick up a heart rate chest strap for workouts alongside it - the heart rate sensor on the watch is fine for daily life but for intense workouts it can't keep up. The Venu 2 has the newer HR sensor but lacks a million aspects of training and mapping, so is not as good IMO. Sorry for delayed response - hope this helps.
Probably one of the most honest reviews online. I get tired of fan boys. Thanks! I don't even want all the fitness stuff that much. People have forgotten that listening to you body works pretty good too. If you are not trying to break any records or something like that, you don't need all that jazz. Sometimes less is more.
Thanks so much! I do value the fitness things, but the price difference is just too steep
Watching this video reminded me of the saying "be careful what you ask for because you just might get it."
I know! It was an odd experience. Thanks for commenting
I have venu2 plus now looking to get this for morning report. Is this worth the price . Use mine to track workouts , sleep .
This is a far superior watch when it comes to workout tracking and analysis, and you also get a large list of additional features - might be worth the upgrade
Had the Epix 2 but decided that Fenix 7 sapphire is the watch for me because of battery and I want to see the display everytime without lighting up and if I need to I touch the screen and thats it
Yep - totally get that. Thanks for commenting!
Oh man, I am so happy I went with the Epix2 over Fenix, you basically nailed it at end of your video why it is the absolute best option out there. I love it.
Yes totally! There is honestly not another like it - it does it all - I just wanted the largest model screen, but the brillance of the Epix screen is amazing!
I'm a long time Fenix Series owner and I own the 7x SS and Epix 2. I'm keeping both because I like variety. Though if I had to choose between the two watches, I would choose the 7x. The Epix 2 AMOLED display is bright, colorful and has pleasing contrast; however, it's too bright in many indoor environments even on the low brightness setting. It would be nice to be able to dial down the brightness even more in the Epix 2. With all of this said, I still prefer the subtle and natural looking transflective MIP displays of the Fenix Series. I've heard some say that all Garmin watches will have AMOLED displays in the future once battery life is improved. I don't believe that. Transflective MIP displays will always be an option from Garmin.
Yes totally. I agree as well - MIP will stick around for sure I think. And the 7X would be what I would want too. Want the flashlight! Thanks so much for commenting
@@fitgearhunter currently using the Garmin Fénix 6 Pro for about two years. It even saved me when I got lost in the Colorado mountains at night. But now I’m stuck between the Fénix 7X or the Epix 2. Been looking at the Enduro 2 and read it’s flashlight 🔦 is even better than the 7X. Not sure if I should go for the the Epix2 amoled or the 🔦 capabilities of the Fenix7X and Eduro2.
@@gustavogo2915 wellllllll - I prefer the Enduro 2 over the Epix at the end of the day. I love the larger screen and the flashlight for sure. Either are awesome and you will be blown away by the Epix screen, but for functionality I prefer the Enduro 2
@@gustavogo2915 Let me know what you decide!
@@fitgearhunter thank you. I ended up getting the 7XSS mostly for the 🔦, bigger screen and better battery. Got it for 700 brand new after discounts
Thanks, this is so funny!! But I have been thinking about all of these aspects of Garmin watches against the expense and coming to the same conclusions. I can't believe it took me 1 year to see this - hilarious!! Thank you!!
My Fenix 6 was barely readable when I had lights on in my house. I returned it and went back to an Apple Watch. I am going back and forth between an Epix and a 955.
If you’re coming from the Apple Watch, you will love the Epix, it has a super bright and brilliant screen. The 955 is awesome, and is definitely the most value for the cost, but the Epix with the amoled screen and titanium casing is definitely superior. Both are going to be better than the Apple Watch from a training load, tracking and wellness tracking perspective
Most things you get this day have to many things you don´t need in them, been fenix Fan from day one and Tactix is my go to daily. So right now i should say the Tactix 7 Pro SOlar and Epix 2 Sapphire is the two to go for. Have never use all things they can do but still the ones i use they do great and battery/build is what never fails. :)
Yes good point! I have always felt like I did not use all the features built-in, but this just ended up feeling like too much cost relative to what I do use consistently. And despite having said all that I am really loving the tactix 7 luck!
I'm between the Venu 2 Plus and the Epix 2. There is a huge money amount in between. I like to run (i need stats like body power), I do EMS Training and go to the Gym. Has the Epix the same smart stuff except the calling feature? Which one would better fit for me? Would be really happy about a response :)
Hey! Have to look outside of the Venu unfortunately. It's a beautiful screen but lacks the advanced training analytics completely! Plus it lacks mapping and a few other features. Venu would fit a smaller wrist for sure. Honestly I would look at the 955 or Fenix 7S for full featured watches- but they're displays are not as brilliant.
@@fitgearhunter Thank you! So the Venu is actually just a "lifestyle" watch
@@AngelGagaMonster Yep! Exactly. Thanks!
For your needs instinct 2 would do well. Instinct is a great watch for most training and trackjng needs. IMO only those who need color topo maps would need to look into the fenix series.
Yes I reviewed it but I use 1.25 reading glasses and could not easily read the screen data!
I am replacing my F7XSS with an Epix today. Reason being that I really struggle seeing the screen when I swim (no prescription glasses, goggles, water, reflection from sapphire glass, etc...). Hoping that the Epix will fix that.
Yes do it! I struggle with visibility as well. The Epix is super bright and brilliant. Let me know what you think when you get it!
@@fitgearhunter In a few words: it feels like I bought a new pair of eyes. Insane difference.
@@RunnerRemRem ha! I know! So brilliant all around. Glad it's that much better for you!
I don't use the sunroof on my car, but to get the other features, it comes with one. Since I want the amoled and mapping with GPS, I'm not complaining that it also has golfing features that I don't use, so I'm upgrading from the Instinct to the 47mm Epix sapphire black titanium (now that it's 35% off on Amazon, a year later than your video), instead of a forerunner 965 that will get the screen scratched. But this is why we have so many choices
This is a very good video.
I have been going over again and again in my mind deciding which watch to go for between the Fenix, the e pichen 2 and the Apple Watch ultra. I have a small wrist and have been using the Fenix 5s (yes from 2017) and it’s been brilliant without any problems. But now I feel it’s time to change as I am planning a climb up the Kilimanjaro in June 2023.
Still debating between the epix2 and AWU.
You have made me wonder whether I should stick in to my old Fenix which still gives me 2-3 days worth of battery life with activities .
Any suggestions would be really helpful
Hey! Thank you! Yes yes yes it's fine for an upgrade! I would absolutely look at the Fenix 7 or 7S, or the Epix. The Fenix would just give more battery life for a multi-day climb if that's what you do. Let me know what you decide!
@@fitgearhunter Hello again! I succumbed to the super bright screen of Epix gen2 and went for it. Enjoying every moment with it!! Thank you 😊
@@Barryoor great to hear! So glad you're liking it!
Hey are you reading my mind? I totally agree with all your points. Great video thanks.
Thanks so much! Yes I thought and thought about all of it over the last month - just had to summarize and share it! Again, it's def the best watch on all sides in the industry right now, just out of range on price vs feature-use for me unfortunately.
All valid points. But love my Epix 😊
My fenix 6x plus in cardio mode does a pretty good job in crossfit workouts. Doesn't drop off and gets pretty high. I just got a quatix 7x solar and testing it out now. When I used the fenix 6x plus in a gps mode workout for crossfit the heartrate was way low. I looked at the epix because of the display but I just like the larger 51mm. If they come out with that in an epix I'll probably buy that.
Hey! Just catching up on comments - sorry! And yes - many want the larger screen Epix. I unf think it may be a long while until it does get there though. and the Q7X is def the way to go for now. Keep it?
@@fitgearhunter Oh yeah, definitely keeping it. I like the added feature set and it's something different than your regular fenix black. Can dress it up a little too with the titanium band as well. I really like it.
@@ckkevin9620 yes totally - I've honestly looked at it - its a super cool look - good call.
I like your review, I currently own a 955 . I bought it instead of the epic & fenix 7 as a upgrade to my old first generation instinct tactical that died , I am still interested in the fenix and epic the epic but I felt the 955 solor was a good choice for me learning to use the same features and giving me what I wanted to at that time and I got it on sale to. I am still looking at the other two models and maybe looking at one as my last one as a active senior citizen who puts in five to seven ands half miles on different elevations living above a mile high in Colorado to start with 16:28
Dude!! This was spot on. I feel exactly the same way! You get all hyped up for the next new thing and then you spend the crap ton of money on it only to realize that you don’t use 3/4 of the features. I don’t do CrossFit but I run and lift and get all the necessary information out of my training from my 6x sapphire. I was debating on getting the Epix but agree the amoled screen seems out of place on such a rugged watch. Transflective just makes for sense in my brain lol. These reviews are why I follow you, honest and you think very similar to me. Thanks for the hard work.
Thanks so much! Yes - totally agree - just couldn’t get past it all, or justify it I guess. Like I said - it is the best in the business of its kind - just not exactly right for me. So appreciate the thoughts and feedback.
The only comment he made that I just don't get is that the amoled screen seems out of place. Yes, it's not as 'natural' looking as a transflexive display. But out of place? For me, it makes the watch screen usable 24/7 in a way the transflexive (I have a F6S Pro) never does.
@@briandriscoll1480 i think the AMOLED display fits right in. I sold off my Fenix 5X because its display is just too dull for me. After owning the galaxy watch and huawei watch 3 pro , finally i ordered the Epix 2
Ii was the unlucky one that got the washed out blush screen for my 6s so I went for the Venu2 plus . The screen gets scratched and no training stats. I'm looking for the fenix 7 but I don't want the bluish screen again 😕 I was going to get the Epix 2 🤷♀️
Lord you've had a rough go! I think you will be finnnnnnne w the F7 - no reports of blueish screens there! I d had 4 in testing and none yet. But the Epix is brilliant if you can afford it!
@@fitgearhunter thank you!
I have the 6x and have been trying to decide if I should upgrade to the Epix. After your review, I think I can wait 18 more months for the next Fenix series/Epix to release which hopefully the tech and metrics are even more improved by then!
Hey! I would consider the pro series a next level offering. Especially the Epix pro 51 mm. The battery life is insane, and the screen is visually awesome, plus, and maybe more importantly, includes the new heart rate sensor which is two levels above the current one you have on the 6X. I would consider an upgrade to that now!
I bought fenix 6 pro and wandering if I made a mistake not buying epixs. This was the best review ever. I think that I made the right choice. Great video btw.
Thank you! Very much. Just get a chest strap for workouts - the F6 HR sensor can't keep up with harder workouts
Hey, what watch do you use now? A Fenix 6?
Enduro 2 is my favorite! When testing I have to use others, but that is the preferred watch all around!
also I need a watch with good golf stats....narrowed it down to the EPIX 2 or the Approach s70.....your thoughts ?...cheers from Canada
Hey! I would go Epix 2 bc it should have same golf capabilities but much more, but I haven't researched and golfing nuances that may be included in the s70!
@@fitgearhunter I ended up ordering the EPIX PRO GEN 2 in 47mm sapphire today...it has all the same golf stats as the Approach s70 i found out...hope i made the right choice...lol....thx again for your review
@@GOLFADDICT65 heck yes! Good call - that is an awesome watch. Hope you enjoy it!
Yes. My personal limit for a fitness watch would be $400...and that's Canadian.
Yep! And I feel like that’s my realistic range too. Totally agree.
I love my epix 2 for everything except sleep, it’s just too big. Luckily I got a venu 2 plus music practically free with the purchase of my epix sapphire at kohls during the Black Friday sale, so I use that for sleep and dress.
Awesome! Yes that's a great alternative. Good call.
So this was a year ago. Did you find the next replacement?
Maybe a Garmin forerunner 265 or 965?
Great question! I think the 965 is definitely the best, most feature Rich watch for the price on the market today. I am drawn, however, to the new Epix pro series because of the flashlight, new heart rate sensor, and 51 mm design.
@@fitgearhunter after wearing a coros for a little bit and going to the 955, I can understand why people are moving on to the AMOLED screens. The colors are very washed out on Garmin forerunner 955's. Coros screen colors definitely beat Garmin in daylight visible screens.
Maybe my next upgrade in the future will be a AMOLED display. They look nice and bright. Maybe they will add a flashlight to the next forerunner release in the future. 🤞.
So true, 1000,- !!! I also don´t understand that only silver versions are "cheap". I am Happy now with my Fenix 7 Solar, got it for around 650.- and sold my Fenix 6 Pro. Overall for 400,- it is ok for me. Next Watch, maybe could be an Amoled Watch. But next 2 Years i am happy with the F7. Thanks for your Video!
Buttons: I also use mostly buttons. But choosing a widget, working with the map and choosing an Activity on my big list works well with touch. So i am happy with touch, it is only a nice little enhancement for me.
Hi please which is better Fenix 6s pro or epix gen2?
Hey! The Epix gen2 by a million miles is better!
You just convinced me that I should buy it. You know, it is very tiring to be rational all the time about what we buy… just get the best and … the rest.
Luciano - you need this watch. It is calling for you. It beckons to be your daily companion - up trails, fast runs, heavy weightlifting - it wants to analyze it all and provide you with a wealth of wellness information. Let me know when ordered.
i had the epix 2 and i sort of agree with you ... the screen looks to pretty and bright... i know that sounds odd but i prefer the fenix 7 mip display...especially outdoors...
I sent my Epix Gen 2 back after 2 days. It's a beautiful screen, but it just didn't feel/look right to me. Especially if you keep the always on display, which is a must (for me, since it's a watch). Anyway, much happier with the Fenix 7SS
I hear you! I still (after 2 testings) haven't gotten used to it - I just feel like the screen should be Transflective for a rugged watch!
I absolutely love mine. You can’t have a insanely bright screen with longevity and battery life.. the fenix 7 was too outdated looking for a smart watch. People complain it’s too bright it’s just what a preference.
Yes yes yes. Totally agree. The screen is so damn brilliant. Glad you like yours!
I've never expected one'd say that 👏👏👏
some watches are OVERLOADED with features. That's why I will stay with my 745. That's enough(4me).
The Epix 2 was supposed to be your holy grail watch🤓. I just returned my titanium Epix 2 after a week for a refund. I agree with you on the price fully. At $1k or over, I would prefer to buy a mechanical watch. Those are amazing to look at and last for years. But, the main reason why I returned it was that it was painful to wear for my wrist. I am used to wearing smaller watches for fitness tracking. The Fenix/Epix lines are thick watches with a lot of metal parts. If I get back into a Garmin I might look for a deeply discounted Forerunner 745 or something like that in the future.
Yes totally, I have thankfully gotten used to the extra weight, because it does take an adjustment process. I think at some point they will make a forerunner series watch with an AMOLED screen. I don’t know that it will happen this year, but they are bound to do it, and that would be a much more comfortable feel.
@@fitgearhunter I would definitely have to look for a Forerunner if I go back to Garmin. I tried on a 6S at one point and still felt it was a bit much for me. Nice video you made!
I kept having a weird burning sensation… I couldn’t figure it out and finally returned it.
Which is best for indoor pool?
Hey! I would say all of Garmin's recent watches are good for it - namely the 955 and Fenix 7 series
Im more than happy with my Enduro 2. Amoled just doesn't speak to me at all. E2 with the uk talkytoaster maps works a charm and I'm getting 1% per hour with full navigation as well.
Yes completely. That is my watch of choice within the whole Garmin lineup as well
@@fitgearhunter I can see in future
Forerunners all being AMOLED save perhaps the 955/965 surviving as dual
Epix and Fenix staying as the same watch for those who want AMOLED or MIP with the same features
Enduro staying MIP for endurance and solar..
Does me fine.
Says a lot when Suutno and Polar are staying with both, and the Suunto Vertical is a nice touch that will hopefully give Garmin some extra competition
So what are you replacing the Epix 2 with?
If I had the money the 945 LTE. Newer sensor than the original and updated OS. But now just waiting for 955/255 to come out and will buy and test them. All rumors say next week.
@@fitgearhunter would you recommend the Fenix 6 Pro? I have the Instinct 2, but thinking about returning it.
@@young_of_the_mill9560 yes for sure. But only if pairing to an external HR monitor for workouts. It’s great otherwise. I’m using the instinct 2 myself because Garmin sent me one to test for a review but hasn’t asked for it back, but I can’t read the screen because I use low level reading glasses and the screen is just too small.
I like my 6 Pro, but my 60 year old eyes struggle with detail in the data, esp during workouts. Thinking the amoled screen might be the difference I need?
Yes yes yes - and double yes haha. And I completely agree w you. It is 1 million times brighter and has 1 million times the clarity. Just make sure you elect always on during workouts and you will see it clear as day, I’m telling you it’s a whole different experience
It makes total sense that the display doesn't look right. I thought the same thing. Garmin = MIP forever.
Thats exatly why I'm buying Epix. In every life ocation packed in standard watch form fator.
Yes totally. I got one again to compare to the AWU and it's still really impressive
Greatly appreciate this video. #1 was it for me. Although I can afford the watch, I couldn’t shake the fact that I was spending 1,000 on a device that sat on my wrist, so I also sent it back. Yes, I’m an AW user but it also does what I need it to and, like you’ve mentioned in previous videos, I can get by with added apps and it doesn’t bother me, nor does the everyday charging. Plus when a new AW comes out, I can trade it in and cut the cost in half, if not more if I like the features of the new one. Totally fine with this method!
Totally understand that! Thank you so much for sharing. It’s so helpful to be hearing from everyone regarding their response. Again - it is the best of its kind, but still def not a perfect fit for all!
@@fitgearhunter last question, do you think - having used the Epix now - it would be difficult to spend near the same amount of money on a regular 7? In other words, has the Epix spoiled it for you, or would you consider going to a 7X or 7?
@@ZeRo-22- Great question! No I definitely don’t think it has spoiled it for me, I just couldn’t quite justify the value. I definitely have been looking at the 7X, but, again, at the feature set that I want (titanium) it’s back up there in price.
Of course, you should get an AW if that is your preference. But, if an Epix 3 comes out next year, I guarantee that I can sell the Epix 2 for more than half price, so I'm not sure that's much of a "plus" that you've mentioned.
@@craigmeyer3123 Yes, true - the Garmins - esp speciality models that everyone wants like this - would likely sell for 60-70% 2 years later - but the E3 won't be for at least 2 years from release date!
Absolutely right..
Thanks so much for commenting - glad you feel like it was applicable.
Just got a standard Felix 7 for $520 direct from Garmin using 20% discount code. Spent $20 on a screen protector. That seems a somewhat reasonable deal
That's a great deal! And heck yes - what are you upgrading from?
Fully understand your thoughts. Thank you for sharing it. I am more amazed that some people buy traditional watches for even more than 1k and never complain that it can only show time and date, and only during daytime. For sure they are using all of these 2 features 😂. Very happy with my epix sapphire, enormous upgrade from my previous fenix 5 plus sapphire.
Totally Agreed. I also upgraded from my Fenix 5X and love Epix Gen 2.
They buy mechanical and solar watches that lasts decades even centuries.. these watches in 5-7-10-15 years they are gone.. the other ones add value too!
@@lefkiospapadopoulos7462 great remark, thank you. I hope I will live long enough to see proof you are right. And the probability will increase using a watch that not only shows the time but also supports my health and active lifestyle with training plans, feedback and guidance.
Purchase mine today with a price of 469€, Titanium version. I have a Coros Vertix too. But a watch with 23h gps is adequate to ultras (100k). Thanks for the video (the new 51mm Epix is too big)
Where did you get that price?? That's a steal!!
@@MrNachez Corte inglês...a big store in Portugal and Spain
The only HR sensor that works with activity workouts is the Apple Watch. It sucks that they don’t have any training features to make use of that data. Also the shitty battery life. Looking forward to the rugged version coming out next month.
Yes I am completely unconfident of it being worthwhile, but hope to be surprised. And yes - the Apple HR is the only one truly capable of keeping up, although the newer Garmin sensor can at about 90% - but with any significant wrist strain or intensity I tell everyone to connect to a chest strap - it's fundamental for CrossFit bc of the need for wrist wraps or hand wraps all the time
Im gonna buy this.. I hope I get a good Price Black friday. I Think its cheap if you compare to the prices of IPhones. I Will be able to keep this for years. This Will be my first fitness watch😊
Awesome!! So fired up for you then - it is just awesome. Currently it's $872 on Amazon, which I'm not sure it will go lower than!

No offense brother, but I feel like I just listened to my bestfriend tell me all the many reasons why he broke up with his last 5 girlfriends....all to tell me that he's breaking up with his newest girlfriend because she's so perfect that he can't keep up with her...she offers wayyyy too much and she's way to overpriced because you don't need all of her functionality....when that's why you broke up with all 5 of your last girlfriends....no girl is going to be perfect and make you 100% happy....especially when you're always looking at the "grass on the other side of the fence" so to speak....sometimes you have to stop looking at what you don't like....and start thinking about what you DO like and be satisfied with what you have. I mean all of this with the utmost respect too....love your videos and your info is very helpful....but I love my Epix gen 2 and this is coming from a guy who used to run long distance and now I'm stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. She's a little pricey and offers way more that I use....but she sure is pretty to look at and all my friends comment on how cool she is and blown away that I'm wearing the most long lasting sexy looking overly priced watch that THEY'LL never be able to afford.....sometimes....the Epix gen 2 "clout" goes a lot farther in the gym than my wheelchair ever will 😉
Bahahahaha - wait one second, have you been talking to my therapist?! Ha ha I totally get it! Yes as a reviewer of devices that is constantly the struggle! At the end of the day I was hyper hyped about this release, and then through the process realized that I was more addicted to the MIP transflective screen technology and three weeks of battery life - and then the flashlight! Ended up feeling like the Enduro 2 was the "most perfect" for me. But I do totally appreciate the Epix! I bought one just for the sake of reviewing it against the Apple Watch Ultra so I have been wearing it for three weeks and it's really awesome, for all the reasons you list.
and good grief I am so sorry to hear about the horrific change in your life. That's really hard, and it means a lot that you are taking such a positive outlook and maintain such lightheartedness when approaching issues like me whining over Watch functions.
Thanks so much for sharing, across all fronts. Means a lot.
thumbs up for Reason no. 3.
Hey! Thanks so much for commenting. Yes I just couldn’t get used to it. So weird haha
Sadly Huawei gt3 outperform Garmin Fenix 7 and epix in HR reading and I'm quite sure it's because of their weight and size
Hey! Likely tech driven differences as well - the GT3 has performed better - but again, I always strongly suggest people connect to a chest strap or arm band for truly intense workouts as no opticals fully keep up. Thanks!
@@fitgearhunter Totally true. It's also worth pointing out that the GT3 is limited to ony 2 compatible chest straps at the moment.
@@craigmeyer3123 Hey! Just catching up on comments - sorry! Actually - that is not true - subscribers alerted me that it can connect to more, and I proved it to be true! I was able to connect it to a number of HR sensors.
OK, it's not for you. And at the price, either it should be or price shouldn't matter. For me, price simply doesn't matter. I'll pay for the best even if I don't make use of many of the funcitons. But I use the mapping and don't have/want a chest strap, so I need the WHR monitor. And I love the amoled display/touchscreen. Just wish it had a speaker/mike. And better sleep tracking. Thanks for the honest appraisal!
Thanks so much for the comments! Yes the mapping is fantastic, and the WHR is crucial if you don’t wear a chest strap, so that’s a real benefit there. And so agree about the speaker/mic!! Seriously. Wish they had added - I would’ve used the voice assistant. Thanks for commenting!
Agreed. I think the point of the Garmin Fenix/Epix line is that it offers everything (other than a mic/speaker. FWIW, I found the assistant on the Venu 2+ to be awfully slow). So, it isn't that one person will use everything the watch provides, rather it's that the watch can provide what you need, no matter who you are. There simply aren't any other watches out there that provide everything that Garmin Fenix/Epix does with the options it provides at the quality level that it delivers across the board. I've tried them all.
@@craigmeyer3123 yes good point - until the 955! I mean - it does basically everything the F7/Epic does for less cost. Wish it had the assistant but that's frustrating it has the lag - that's not effective.
I've never had a smartwatch let alone a fitness watch but I don't do Crossfit, I do hike a LOT. Every week I do at least 5 miles in the woods. The display on the Epix is why I want one, I'm kind of a topo map nerd so the level of detail you get wins me over. Thank God I don't have $1k laying around so I'm saving and seeing if something new comes out, if not then I'll get it or see if the price goes down when the Gen 3 comes out
Yes good call! The mapping is awesome on the AMOLED and the navigation so great w the touchscreen. Totally agree - you’d get a lot of use out of it.

I think you get it slightly wrong. Epix (gen 2) does not compete with Fenix 6x or 7, but rather with Apple Watch Ultra, and then it's a different story. I need an AMOLED smartwatch but with DAYS (ok 3 days) of battery. and that's it. If you add the need of payments, an accurate HR sensor, and my cold feelings towards Apple, Epix is the only one on the market, and I am very happy to ditch my voice assistant on the watch as I already have one with my buds..If you have money for Apple Ultra, you are in the range of Epix. but if you are a super ultra ironman runner, you will but Fenix with solar anyway. but with Epix I no longer need my mudmaster casio for swimming pool sessions and my Fossil 6 for daily usage. I just can have one watch.
the sleep part has been disappointing. Especially the deep sleep
Interesting! I have found it to be in line, regarding the amount assessed, with other wearables that do a good job. I think it’s been proven that the sleep stages don’t line up with medical devices, but even wearables that more line up with medical devices are showing similar results. I’m going to retest the Whoop strap so I will let you know what other feedback I have whenever it happens to arrive!
so why did you buy the watch..? all that stuff you dont like was on the garmin site . :)
Hey! Yes - I use all of the Garmin features but the specific cost and screen option turned out to be not as absolutely crucial as I thought it would be - ended up feeling like the Enduro 2 gave me absolutely everything I wanted. Thanks!
@@fitgearhunter i ment all the stuff you said that maked you letting the epix 2 go you could read about it on garmin site so you don't have to buy it for 1000 dollars and try it. 😂 Epix 2 is the best garmin watch right now beside tge marq models. 😊

I have said this time and time again apple is by far the most accurate heart tracker it is on par with the ECG polar h10 chest strap and one step farther you can throw the ultra in an arm strap and boom even better I love I can make calls if I accidently left my phone at home or if I did it on purpose. and batter makes me no different I charge every morning while in the shower getting ready for work and its always on 100% before I head out to work EVERY MORNING!!!! I do three work outs every day 1 at 4 am 1 at 12 for lunch and 1 soon as I get home. They are all three gps tracked I have never had an issue ever. I owned the epix gen 2 also and sold it for the apple watch ultra its just more practical for me Im not crossing rivers or hiking up mountains I may do something like that 1 time every 4 years!! the only thing I see getting these big pricey watches is bragging rights that is simply it!
That's an awesome testimony on the battery life! I love hearing that. There's just not enough in-house wellness and training analytics from Apple for me right now, although I do love the look of the AWU! Even though I can use 15 different third-party applications I just find it to be a far less simplified and unified compilation of information than others are offering. So glad you are loving it!
@@fitgearhunter Thanks for the comment It's hard to believe this was a year ago! I still have my AWU g1 on my wrist every day. I am glad to say I finally broke down and bought another 2 watches, I am going to Alaska this summer with both of my brothers. So I got the new Garmin Forerunner 965 which I wish I hadn't, and the Garmin Epix g2 Pro 51mm !!! and I am glad to say I love the watch I wear it now every day on my right wrist and my AWU g1 on my left wrist and I connect both at the same time to my Polar h10 chest strap and the heart rate changes on both watches at the same time sometimes one lags behind the other but they both do it. I think I still prefer my AWU just because LTE and my apps I can't live without Athlytic, and work outdoors, foot path, and Gia. If Garmin could get their shit together and get LTE on the Fenix or Epix with a ton better sleep stage tracking, then all their metrics would be close. I say this because every night my sleep tracker on my new GE2Pro is dead wrong it will say I got long sleep but terrible sleep like wtf really??? I feel awesome but then when the sleep is off it throws everything else off!! I think if they could get the metrics and sleep right and get LTE or cellular on the Epix and Fenix these would be the Absolute best watches on the market but for now Athlytic has the closest to being right for sleep tracking and how I feel in the morning when I wake up. These are just some of my insights on the watches. For the Forerunner 965 I like it but it's just a cheap made feeling watch and the first day I had it I bumped it into the fridge and now it has a gash scratch from top to bottom and I'll never ever purchase another expensive watch unless it's Titanium or stainless and Sapphire glass!!!
I’m so disappointed in you. 😂😂😂😂😂 But seriously, I really, really, really wanted this watch but honestly #1 did it for me. It’s just too darn expensive. I decided instead to put that money into a fabulous island hiking adventure. Sure wish I had that swiping map function though. 😂🤷🏾♀️ *rolling my eyes at my 945*
OK I got it. The Epix is excessive! Too much! Too good!
Go to 6:40 for the start of the video.
geeez. 6:45 before you get to the topic of the video. That said. The Watch wasn't for you. Nobody uses all the feautres of the watch. You're also not paying more for touch screen. That comes on the 7 as well. You're paying for an amoled screen, sapphire and titanium. I Have had the 3, 5, 6 and this screen is unbelievably better than any previous Fenix. That's the attractive feature of the watch. The user interface is 1000% better than Fenix and it can be managed from the phone.
Yes sorry about the overly long intro - that is def something I am working on - but my initial and full review videos included a lot of content so I had to explain more in detail. And yes - I use all of the features but realized the AMOLED wasn't for me - I ended up with the Enduro 2 bc I realized that I preferred the classic transflective screen and the over 3 weeks of batter - plus the flashlight, nylon band, and color accents. Thanks!

Let me get this right... You bought a $1k watch. A month later you are "letting it go" because of the price. You already bought it. But your next point was well taken. I don't use all these features so I should probably buy a Casio or something like that.
Sounds like you need to just let me have that watch. I mean I turn the features off that I don’t use and keep on truckin. The Epix (Gen2) is basically a Fenix 7 with a screen made for today’s standards. I never could stand Garmin’s prices for watches with those awful screens they always had before. Anyway you would probably benefit best with one of the WHOOP bans from what I get out of this video…..
I went with the enduro 2 for the screen size and flashlight. Just liked the older screen tech as well. Thanks!
Yeah, I have the EPIX Pro Gen 2 and I feel like I was raped on the price but I'm stuck with it now. Had it for a month now. I still don't fully understand all the metrics and features and how to get the optimum use out of it. I don't use the mapping cause it's just too small for my eyes to see I think. I've used it for cycling along with a dedicated cycling computer and what upsets me is I get a double report of the same ride once I download into Garmin Connect. I end up having to delete one of the rides. Garmin should fix that. Hopefully I can learn and get more out of this watch or it will just leave me with a bad taste for Garmin products in the future.
Hey! I mostly wrestled w the price too, but ironically it was the screen tech for me since I was coming from a Fenix watch at the time - just couldn't get used to the amoled for some reason. Since then I've changed and really appreciate the screen since wearing the Pro series bc I am flashlight dependent. It really is an awesome watch, so give it time.
Price can’t be a reason to let a watch go one month after you bought it 😂. It could be reason before you buy it, but not a month after it 😅
Haha agree and disagree! Like if you pay a premium to get leather seats in a car then a month later you realize "damn I don't like leather seats" you could realize after the fact!
let it go mate ... just let it go
Reviews on the sleep tracking are dismal for this watch.
yes - on the sleep stage tracking - but I've found the other pysio metrics more valuable (body battery and sleep score)
Little disappointed in the review. All the things you mention are just personal preferences… nothing was about how the watch held up and performed.
I think only money that counts to u
Why did you buy ? 😂
