  • Well, you love your realistic Planet Coaster parks, so let's do another one. Welcome to ChachoLandia: A cross between Cedar Point, Thorpe Park, Dorney Park, Carowinds and Energylandia. Opened by Cedar Fair in the UK in 2015, we are building with a bigger budget!
    This week, we add in the winner of last week's community poll: B&M Flyer... In this one we also talk technicals of the B&M flyer too... how do they actually work and just how complex they are...
    Using realism I’ve learnt from my experience of working for a real-life theme park company and over 4000 hours of Planet Coaster play time. Using true-to-life principles, we walk through each stage of the build reasons why things are built in a certain way- as well as some top tips on how these were achieved too by pulling them apart for you to see. As the project progresses, I’ll release the park for you to enjoy, so please make sure you Subscribe to stay in touch!
    What if Cedar Fair opened a park in the UK? Would it look like Alton Towers? Thorpe Park? Or would it take on the form of more American parks like Cedar Point? Canada's Wonderland? Or would it be more themed like DollyWood, Legoland, Busch Gardens or SeaWorld? Oh, and don't forget Six Flags too! What about China? I hear Flying Kiss theme park in China is a good one too! Well, one thing is for sure, realistic Planet Coaster parks don't come much more realistic than this and let's be honest, other Planet Coaster Let's Play or Planet Coaster gameplay videos won't give you the real reasons why things are as they are. Where do you place rides, rollercoasters, shops, paths, plazas, car parks, entrance areas, tickets, turnstiles, maintenance sheds and so on? I'll tell you where as we up the Planet Coaster Realism game! This is more than just a Planet Coaster Tutorial; this is a Planet Coaster best park ever!' Just so you know, my realistic series uses Planet Coaster Sandbox. It's time to get Planet Coaster real! Episodes with rollercoasters also have rollercoaster povs too. Don't worry if you're stuck for Planet Coaster Entrance Ideas - this episode will sort you out. This is how to start a park. AND if you like the build styles of Themepark worldwide, bro nation, silvarret, maskedbandit, mike sheet, deladysigner and rudi rudikmental then you might just like this! We have very similar planet coaster building style. I wish I'd get noticed by Mr Beast haha

      It's a really important part of it all though.. it stops you making decisions that force you into a lack of realism... Yeah, it backs you into a corner, but "reality" is a corner when you think of all of the legislation etc. This is that "sub level" realism I always talk about :)

But I am loving this series, keep it up :)

    Omg, so great! I really liked the detailed insight in some of the flying coaster specifics. Such information is almost never mentioned anywhere, so it's nice to have you to educate me :-)
    If there is one thing I would question is the size of some trees in the area. I mean the park is new and the construction of the area would have probably cost most trees. If we would be 100% realistic the trees in the area would have been planted after building the coaster. At least the trees within the supports I guess. But you know better than me. That's how I would imagine.
    Concerning the water ride, I would imagine that a regular log flume would not suit this modern and new park since log flumes are mostly from the 70s/80s if I remember correctly (at least for german parks). So either it would be a highly themed rapids ride or one of the newer water splash coasters, I forgot how they are called. I was thinking about the atlantis ride in Europa Park. Nevertheless, thanks for this awesome episode. Cheers and see you next Sunday :-)

    • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  3 года назад +1

      You raise a very good point and yes, most of the trees would have probably been landscaped in when the park was built - so you're talking around 2014ish ready for a 2015 opening. But, the game doesn't have many baby trees sadly (and the ones on the workshop are too costly on piece count; plus the in-game ones are.. just... ugh), so it just felt like the natural thing to do was to include adult trees. The plot of land would have HAD trees on it (look at LegoLand New York for example), it wouldn't have been a field, but yes there would certainly be some baby nature there somewhere.
      I'm also inclined to agree that the log flume would probably be more a shoot-the-chute style flume than a traditional log flume - but that said, new log flumes or ones reconditioned from old parks do still exist. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that not everything in the park is factory-new...

  • @ImmelmanLoop

    Absolutely incredible, I've never been able to get good results with the flying coaster, but air/galactica at alton towers has a precedent for the brake on the pretzel loop as air has tis random trim at the top of the hill before the final helix. Also, maybe a full flying coaster tutorial in the top tips series?

    • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  3 года назад +2

      Yes!!! Those trims are the passive block-breaks that would never be used as evacuation blocks, but tells the computer systems that the train has passed the point of no return so it is safe to enter. It's a dead clever system!
      I'm going to do an element of build in the "extra" ep this week. I'll be showing the "fly dive" and the pretzel loop builds :)

      I'm inclined to agree actually. It was a bit tough for that space and I wish it was a little tamer towards the end, but.. if it was any slower it would struggle on the slow zero-g which needs that height. At least the winding bits do something to kill the speed a little, but yeah, I agree that the first of the break-runs is hit too harshly..

      The upward zero-G is built using the specifications of Flying Dino and Starry Sky Ripper, so it looks weird in game, but is correct from an engineering perspective. The first turn is also based on the same dimensions as Starry Sky Ripper's first turn, so the length and angles etc. It might look wonky because it isn't a "u" shape as it closes in on itself to come back, where-as the other turnarounds are usually just the 180, this is more like a 270.. That might be what is doing it... :)

      Depends on how safety conscious you are being.. I left it off here because the netting would ruin the sightline if it were there.. "Internally we call it the fly dive, but I believe B&M have a different term for it".
    Out of curiosity, does your company call it "Fly dive" or "Flying Snake Dive". Based on your answer, I'm pretty sure I know which coaster/ride manufacturer you work for.
    Edit: Later in the video you talk about # of lines of code to achieve something. I'm an actual Software Engineer and honestly, that indicates bad engineering. Realistically, a system like this should have minimal considerations and going from 180 degrees to 0 back to 180 should be maybe 10 lines of code. I'd recommend getting better software engineers because that smells like non-software engineers self teaching themself how to code and being proud of quantity instead of quality.

    • @Nerdchacho
      @Nerdchacho  3 года назад

      I don't work for a manufacturer, I work for a Park Operator :)
      There's far more involved with the coding than that, this is a fairly simplistic view of how the coding works. I'm not a coder to know how efficient the code actually is, but what I DO know is that there are many checks that the sensors have to perform and moving the trains from sitting to prone is done in 6 stages, including physical ones you can physically see: Sitting, 45 degrees, prone. There are also checks that happen throughout the transition as well as mid-points. The code then also continues until the train has exited the station and has to also control the "eye", watch for any unusual movement etc. It isn't just a case of "seat down, set up, launch (dispatch)".

    • @Couponuser16
      @Couponuser16 3 года назад

      @@Nerdchacho Ahhhh ha ha a curve ball. I definitely don't know as much about that side of things, particularly not European park operators. I was going to say either Intamin or Vekoma, though. B&M and S&S use the "fly-to-lie" naming I know for sure. That leaves only Intamin and Vekoma with flying models.
      And you're right, I over simplified. However, a common theme with engineers writing software instead of specifically software engineers is that they have a tendency to rebuilt the wheel which results in way too much code to realistically maintain. There is a reason software engineers joke about how much code they delete from a codebase instead of how much they write. Imagine it's a suspension bridge and someone suggests to use 300% more suspension wires than are necessary. It gets the job done, but it is still bad engineering.
      Similarly, by evaluating job postings for software development by coaster manufactures I've noticed that they are often working on large legacy monoliths that are by their nature currently outdated.
      I'm not saying demand an uproar, but don't be surprised if there are large scale software changes over the next couple years because while their Hardware is often state of the art, the software is lagging behind based off of what I have been introduced to.

    • @Nerdchacho

      Not entirely true. Every b&m we have in our portfolio use some sort of friction wheels as propulsion at least in the break run section. Look, for example, at the first bend of rapor at gardaland... friction wheels.. or the end of swarm.. friction wheels.. the break runs of nemesis inferno or nemesis, you guessed it... The game doesn't give us the correct tools to use for this purpose, so you have to trade off what is "real" and what the game lows you to do.
      Also, all of the maintenance sheds of ours I've visited.. most recently the week before this episode was filmed do use standard track in the sheds.

      @@Nerdchacho Yeah, of course. B&M coasters use friction wheels on a straight track. There are no friction wheels in the curved sections.
      Believe me, I know what I am talking about. For the maintenance sheds, B&M trains sit on wheels that are attached to the maintenance sheds. The train weels are free from the rails so it is easier to check them.

      @@LewisRiverman I expect we do and we would interpret our things differently in game too.. i try my best with the resource I have access to, but of course if anyone can provide any alternative resources I'm happy to see them
