  • One song from the first of 2 farewell gigs the Young Marble Giants performed at Hurrah on November 21 and 22, 1980. I hope to release the 2 full concerts on DVD sometime this year. There will be a short apparition in the BBC TV series "Go West", an excellent music history series about the British music invasion. A timeless treasure, the Young Marble Giants are as relevant today as ever.

This enigmatic little band is getting coverage even today as they were an influence on so many bands and musicians!

I just discovered this band, and it really is like rediscovering all the music I've been influenced by from the "alt" era all over again. Finding out these guys were a huge influence on Kurt Cobain blew me away. I know a lot of people say "I'll bet we'd be good friends" but I did feel that when I found the interview where he talks these guys up major and I'm like trying to respond to him like "I know, RIGHT!?!?! High five!"

I was at this show. ( well, the 21st or 22nd)..... my girl friend passed out and we had to carry her down all those stairs. I would love to hear more of this show!!!! it really feels like and was a lifetime ago.

I can still remember the time and place, some 40 years ago, when I first heard Allison's diaphanous yet somehow intimate voice. The YMG's have been in my head ever since. They're helping me through difficult times even now.

The cheapest of instruments through the cheapest of amps with no sort of effects, I don't think they even turned the knobs very much. Not even a drum machine - they existed in 1980 - a 70s organ accompaniment box. And a woman singing softly and wonderfully in a deep Welsh accent. That is fucking punk rock.

The bands in the streaming catalog are in alphabetical order on the left. The other concept music documentaries are in the middle and pure documentaries non-musical are on the right.

Hole are doing a COVER. These are the folks who WROTE it. It was a great choice for Hole to cover this, very well suited to their strengths.
