Opening monologue reminded me go what Kierkegaard said...'life can only be understood looking backward, but has to be lived going forward.' Happy trails to you and your family. One day your kids will tell you how much they admire this life choice.
Absolutely. I sometimes struggle in the present so panicking about the future and regretting the past does me no good whatsoever. I have learnt from the past though and that is when things get to be too much then stop, cut back on everything but essentials and get through the minute, or hour, or day until you can cope with a little bit more. As they said, winter can be a hard time for some, me included. I feel as if I’m in hibernation and only come alive from springtime onwards. Be kind to yourself and you will get through it and be able to look back and say that the method you used to do that worked and you can use it again.
Nice one Brook and Rebecca. Without getting all existential on you, we have to come to terms with the fact that this is it. There's no playback, there's no rehearsal, this is all we get. Time has a currency that seems low in value when you're young but which grows in value as you get older. I'm stunned that I'm 60 this year. I'm doing my best to make the most of each and every day. Looking forward to seeing you guys soon. 👍🏼
Wow! Looking good for almost 60. Seeing the kids grow so quick in what feels like a blink is a big indicator, to savour every moment. Will be good to catch up, see you soon.

(PS...your skit on the world soccer games was hilarious. You have great wit and good timing!) Till next time, cheers! from south Florida.
I happened to see one of your videos with a twitch streamer who was on a break. Thank you so much for sharing a piece of your life. And thank you for being so honest of mental health. You both are brave and you are bringing your children up in a wonderful world.
How wonderful to see the children with (what I can only assume are) their grandparents! Grannie willing to get down on her knees with them in the sand, the Grandpa laughing with them as heartily as a child himself. Joy.
Superb , professional ,beautiful music and absolutely engrossing to watch . Please keep on doing the funny stuff as well though when you feel like it - I love it ❤
Happy New Year to you all! The funny stuff keeps a lot of us motivated in the DIY world. Honestly, when I saw you marching out in your bathrobe I assumed something was leaking. I can be seen by my neighbors in a bathrobe when the well pump quits, or the water springs a leak from solar pipes on roof. If not for me swearing funny things at those moments the neighbors would have no reason to get up in the morning. Keep the humor and be yourselves.

Please more videos. No Need to chat just Do. Love it thanks for filling the little spare time I have with this content. I am a prolific veg grower in rural Cornwall every year I loose at least half the glass in my greenhouse. Keep at it x
Thanks Marcia. Sorry to hear about your greenhouse! The seeds don't seem to mind being on a table by the window so hopefully we'll still have a good crop come summer.
Am with you on the winter feelings. I took out some new pepper seeds and put them by the side of the sofa to look at them every day to keep me going. The daily task of chopping wood becomes a task I really enjoy. Spring will soon be here and we'll all be moaning about the heat. Keep on keeping on.
The chickens have found my favourite winter sunshine spot (warm and sheltered) and have taken to sunbathing there whenever the sun is out. The way they lie on their sides exposing their tummies to the warmth of the sun makes me smile. We're all the same.
@@LivingintheLoire We've got 3 feral kittens and a feral cat which we are feeding through the winter and they really are bringing me so much joy. Such a beautiful and loving environment in which to nurture children, but it is more hard work than I could have anticipated. Inspiring to see such daily creativity. 🌻

What a wonderful video, love it love it love it, so cleverly put together, the editing and the mixture of content. It is hard this time of year but we are nearly through the winter and as the tips of the bulbs we planted in the autumn or if you are like me the winter start to appear out of the soil we know Spring is on the way... You lovely trip back home was so enjoyable to watch with the ice cream faces of your little ones and your family enjoying the children at Christmas such special memories you have made, looking forward to staying with which I have from the beginning and watch all your hard work in the garden but please do put in the funny bits as we all love to watch that too. Wishing you luck with a car, poly tunnel and your renovations. Take care of yourselves and your beautiful children. Is it to late to wish you a very very Happy New Year!!!! x
Thank you Angela. Happy New Year to you too. Yes, there are lots of bulbs starting to come up and I even spotted a daffodil in flower today! Spring is around the corner.

Your skits are funny! They give an insight to you guys. Looking forward to watching your progress. We remodeled our 1961 home three years ago that was in terrible disrepair. We dealt with demolition, water damage, black mold, leaking plumbing, bad electrical wiring and the most hideous wall paper ever created! But, one problem at a time kept us focused. Plus you have each other as partners. One thing that did keep us sane was at least one room as a retreat that was totally done to escape the mess and construction at night. Oh… and lots of advil and beer😮
Sounds like you had a lot of problems too! I think having a room completely done to retreat to is key (and something we're lacking but we'll get there).
Hey guys, just wanted to say that I find you and your journey very inspiring, and that I appreciate the honest and straight-forward way in which you convey your stories. Thank you. I wish you and your lovely family all the blessings!
Your video put me in mind of a quote that I found recently. I quite like it, and I want to actualize it in my own life. That's the hard part really - it's one thing to read something that resonates and quite another to make it part of oneself. It reads; "Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense." - Ralph Waldo Emerson. I hope that you and your family embrace each new day. Cheers!
It was so lovely getting to see your family. I have been wondering how you all were and was happy to see this video was out. I so enjoy your video content, please keep it up.
If you want to relocate the kitchen please do it. Whether you move it or not, redoing it is a big job. We spend so much time in the kitchen it's worth making it just how you want it.
Yes we are in two minds. If we move it we must take out a supporting wall and dig up floors for waste pipes etc. Having a kitchen part of a large open living space would be so good for the family in the long term.
Happy New Year Brook, Rebecca and boys! I'm glad you got to go to the UK for a break, the boys looked to be having a great time! But that water looked freezing at the beach, and ice creams???? Brrrr! Anyway, your potager is going to be amazing, I can't believe that you can get manure so cheap! Bit of a pain with the polytunnel, they are flimsy and rip in not much wind. But you've had good use out of it haven't you? I'm sure you'll come up with a solution. Brook, don't you dare stop doing your hilarious skits, they have me in stitches, and you're so good at them! It's finally decided to be summer here, at last, so making the best of the sun and doing bits outside before and after the heat of the day. Just acquired a little caravan to do up a bit, as a spare room for guests, so that's going to keep me busy for a while! Much love and huge big hugs all round xxx 😄❤🤗
You can't go to the beach and not have an ice-cream! We're Brits, if we let inclement weather put us off we'd only eat ice cream about once a year 😂 Your caravan project sounds exciting!
I know! We're trying to work out if it's salvageable. We were considering a better one anyway as this one had no vents so was basically unusable in the summer as it got too hot.
hmmm, ya we should all hibernate a bit in winter, not the entire time... but i feel i just want to sleep... lovelly to see you guys again, and PLEASE KEEP THE CRAZY BEHAVIOUR UPPPPP THERRRRREEEE Stay strong. Happy new year
Hello from Eden Prairie! Good work you are doing. A couple of things to look at: Retired mailman Russ Finch grows oranges in his backyard greenhouse without paying for heat. Instead, he draws on the earth's stable temperature (around 52 degrees in his region) to grow warm weather and produce citrus, figs, and pomegranates - in the snow (temps down to -25 F). I suggest you look into pallet racking uprights instead of buying box section steel. See RUclips 'Nebraska retiree uses earths's heat to grow oranges in snow' Also the Johnson-Su (really Su-Johnson) bioreactor. They work out of Chico State - an Ag school in California. Essentially, beneficial fungus is required to grow plants. They have developed a dirt-cheap bioreactor that aerobically digests plant material (no smell) creating an extremely diverse localized fungal community. There is no turning ever. Don't let 'bio-reactor' get you down. Their original design required a pallet, some concrete reenforcement mesh, weed block fabric, PVC pipe (reusable), drip/spray irrigation tubing and a timer-water valve. Some people use IBC totes (which is a wonderfull invention). Then you do nothing. It does take a year to work, but the results of incorporating the material (seed coating, diluted spray) are impressive. Good luck with the homestead!
Check out Keder Greenhouse….. Good on allotment! Love your family and ethics. I KNOW you are not trying to be completely self sufficient but have you investigated wormcast compost production….. extremely nutritious! Manure! A happy sight for a gardener ❤
Thanks will look it up! We do make our own compost but we won't have enough this year for the area we want to cover. I have considered vermiculture as a way to speed up our food waste compost. It's tempting.
Hello beautiful people! !!Hello english people!!! Happy New Year!!! I missed you .I'm glad to see you again . You live in a very beautiful fairy tale. You create beauty all around you.🌻🐝🌸 We also have a very strong wind like never before and also overthrew many things in various towns and villagesYour greenhouse is very nice, but the construction is very light,if you make him 4 anchors at the ends I think it will be ok.Something heavy. Don't be mad about the car ,everything in this life is written in advance and sits and waits . I wish you happiness and luck, success, peace, health,💰😉 and the most important thing is Love 💖 P.p.everything is alive here and now , past present and future , everything is here and now, but as the little prince said ,, the best is invisible to the eyes,,🌹🦊🌌🌍👱
Happy New Year to you too! It's not that we're mad about the car - it was always going to happen - it's more that we now have to find another one. And we hate buying cars 😂. Secondhand cars in France are so much more expensive than the UK as well so it's just a painful process. There are so many other things we'd rather be spending the money on! Such is life. 😊
Did the drought affect you badly? I'm reading up on it because we're considering retiring in the valley, we've found a few houses we could handle financially but don't want to move someplace that's running out of water...
No we weren't nearly as badly affected as some areas. Don't think we ever went beyond an 'amber' level which is, for example, go to a car wash (rather than washing your car at home) and water veg gardens in the evening. The summer before was pretty rainy.
I like the Make Do Grow couple. What's your beef with them? Or, are you friends and just wanted to wind them up in a good natured way? EDIT: I also like you!

I like it, thanks John!
It was so lovely getting to see your family. I have been wondering how you all were and was happy to see this video was out. I so enjoy your video content, please keep it up.
Thank you Mona.
Great video, keep the silly bits to. ❤
Aww Exmouth looks so pretty it must have been hard leaving🥲
Just discovered your vlogs. Look forward to following you. Best wishes from Cornwall
Thank you! You too!
Not the polytunnel!!! Oh no... I am so deeply sorry it was ruined.
Stay strong dear ones ❤❤
I know! We're trying to work out if it's salvageable. We were considering a better one anyway as this one had no vents so was basically unusable in the summer as it got too hot.
Great intro and beautifully put together
Thanks Greig
hmmm, ya we should all hibernate a bit in winter, not the entire time... but i feel i just want to sleep... lovelly to see you guys again, and PLEASE KEEP THE CRAZY BEHAVIOUR UPPPPP THERRRRREEEE Stay strong. Happy new year
I think the fact our children do not seem to be fans of sleep at the moment is definitely not helping our energy levels 😂
@@LivingintheLoire ohh sorry to hear about that, hope it gets better
Hello from Eden Prairie! Good work you are doing. A couple of things to look at:
Retired mailman Russ Finch grows oranges in his backyard greenhouse without paying for heat. Instead, he draws on the earth's stable temperature (around 52 degrees in his region) to grow warm weather and produce citrus, figs, and pomegranates - in the snow (temps down to -25 F). I suggest you look into pallet racking uprights instead of buying box section steel. See RUclips 'Nebraska retiree uses earths's heat to grow oranges in snow'
Also the Johnson-Su (really Su-Johnson) bioreactor.
Thanks for all the info Brad, will look into both of those.
Nice vlog, comme d'habitude. Mark has a story about an adjustable spanner (wrench) and a lawn mower. You can ask him on Monday.@+
I'm intrigued...
Lol, love it 😉🌟😉.
your polytunnel just needs polytunnel ground anchors. about £25 for 4 on amazon or the trampoline once if cheaper
Thanks Andrew
hello new friend from Brenilyn
You create beauty all around you.🌻🐝🌸
We also have a very strong wind like never before and also overthrew many things in various towns and villagesYour greenhouse is very nice, but the construction is very light,if you make him 4 anchors at the ends I think it will be ok.Something heavy. Don't be mad about the car ,everything in this life is written in advance and sits and waits . I wish you happiness and luck, success, peace, health,💰😉 and the most important thing is Love 💖
P.p.everything is alive here and now , past present and future , everything is here and now, but as the little prince said ,, the best is invisible to the eyes,,🌹🦊🌌🌍👱
@@LivingintheLoire 👋See you soon ,I hope 🥰
Oh go on. Be silly now and again...
🦋
New knickers? Nah! Good for another few kilometres! 😂
Time is a human invention
🌟👏👍🍀💐 15:27
hi how much did your farm cost?
Maybe we will explain in a future video.
By an OLD VW Bug, they are indestructible.
As we're looking for a second hand car in France are options are pretty much limited to Renault, Peugeot or Citroen 😂
Oh
Did the drought affect you badly? I'm reading up on it because we're considering retiring in the valley, we've found a few houses we could handle financially but don't want to move someplace that's running out of water...
No we weren't nearly as badly affected as some areas. Don't think we ever went beyond an 'amber' level which is, for example, go to a car wash (rather than washing your car at home) and water veg gardens in the evening. The summer before was pretty rainy.
I live next door to a poly tunnel maraîchère and they get stripped and battered by the wind. So I think it’s kind of to be expected..
Good to know we're not the only ones!
Ah holy undies, the simple joys of life 😂
Very well executed video, the cameraman seems to know what he’s doing and great cast 😉🤙
😂😂
A lesson in the very mundane.
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
I like the Make Do Grow couple. What's your beef with them? Or, are you friends and just wanted to wind them up in a good natured way? EDIT: I also like you!
No beef 😊
.....the Myth of Normal - mega book. Read it dude.
Thank you Chris. I don't own many books but I bought this for Kindle when it came out, I just haven't read it yet. Will start tonight.
@@LivingintheLoire sweet. very welcome. let me know how you get on. :)
Very interesting reminder its not about you anymore when you have kids
Too true!
I was so moved by the last scene in your video that I have had a tattoo on my bottom that says “ make love grow”. ( Very sorry about your polytunnel)
Is that going on the same cheek as your "life love laughter" tattoo or the other one? 🤔
