  • I don't know if this counts as field work, but we are back in the field. I introduce scrapenstein, a trench closer, to the channel and how I built it. We end up hooking it to a rare John Deere 4440 to close up some tile trenches from last falls project.

It's super gratifying when you build something and it works how you want it to. I built a v-plow for my tractor, not much for looks but it works like it should.

That old 4440 is a solid tractor! Simple, easy to work on. Before all the electronic BS on the newer models. I've spent many hours in a 4450 with a 20' bush hog mowing corn and cotton stalks. That 4 wheel drive saved me several times!

I think you will be able to adjust it to how you need it and it will be a great piece of equipment that you have designed and built all yourself. Keep making the great videos and have a blessed rest of the week. God bless you all this season.

here in Colorado we irrigate things like alfalfa. if we flood irrigate. we build little hills like that in the field. we use some thing like the back gang of a tammon disc. we also use them to close our ditches we use to irrigate out of. that looks like it works well.

    2 ideas.
    1. Have one blade shorter and set to push towards the longer. Which levels.
    2. What if you mount in front.
With a pivot point at 1/3 hydraulic forward of that. pressure against blade go towards closed versus open
Then behind tractor you could roll barrel or tire onto the 3 point to compact and level it.

Great videos man. Had an idea for your scrapper. If you wanted to you could swap your hydraulic cylinders out for some cat 1 or 2 top links so you still got some adjustability but also don’t have to worry about it moving when you don’t want it to. Then use your cylinders to fix you hydraulic lift drag coming off your front beam to behind your grader blades so you could drag a little extra dirt to your larger holes when you needed to. Wouldn’t take much scrap tubing and either a piece of c-channel or angle iron and a 2x12 board on top to make a good drag. Those cylinders look to have plenty of travel to pick up and lower a drag too. Just a thought.

The best way to keep the older deere starting go get the 50 series cables from deere and put 12 volt batteries in it i found it will start much better hold on when you price the cables they are high

    • @thehansons3043

If I remember correct....the 40 series just uses 2 6 volts in series to make 12 so all you need to do is make some cables to hook up to 12v in parallel. Assume way cheaper than Deere. Just a thought

Here's you a quick thought Ben four your scraper blade. How's about taking two pieces of angle iron and weld each piece to the outside of each blade straight up and down. Then take you either another piece of angle iron or flat bar. Whichever you have lying around and make sure that it is longer then the peace you have welded on now. Drill you two holes on the top of the angle iron that you welded on the blades. Then drill you several holes on the piece that you put on top of the angle iron or flat bar. Make sure the holes are big enough to put you a pen through them. Then that way you can spread the blades out or bring them in closer. Also I think I heard you say that you wanted to put weight back there. Take you a couple of suitcase weights like is on the front of the tractor and hang them off of that. So another words you'll have to use angle iron for the top so that way you can lift the weights off and adjust your blades how wide or how narrow you want them. That's just kind of an ideal that come into my head. Let me know what you think about it and see if you understand what I was saying. Thanks for the wonderful videos you're doing a great job you and the whole family
