  • This video gets back to some basics of working in Tekla Structures. Ever wonder about all the different cut types in Tekla and when to use them? What about modifying them after they are created? Watch to learn about the differences between, and when to use: Line cuts, Fittings, Polygon cuts, and Part cuts.

Users, you can't control how a line cut lands in your model (Tekla places the line-cut object in the model for you). This is important to understand because it's easy to lose cuts in a model. FITTINGS you CAN & SHOULD control in your model. Tekla sizes the fitting according to your snap, or input (dimensional input). I have two primary tips for placing fittings that make them harder to lose. 1) Make your 1st & 2nd snap to place the fitting far enough apart that it makes the fitting easier to see (e.g. 1'-0" long fitting is easier to see in your model than a fitting that's 1/16" long). 2) Input is an easy way to keep your fitting snaps farther apart (e.g. I like to simply hit "2" twice to input 22" when placing a fitting, making it 22" long and very easy to see).
Respect what David says about setting up your views before cutting. It's easy to lose cuts in your model when you model them in a plane that's far away from the part. Keeping the plane near your part as you add these "edit" objects is a big win for editing later (if needed).
    Happy modeling :)

Excellent explanation as usual. Especially helpful in regards to 'the fit part end' function

An interesting tidbit of information is that you can actually take a polygon cut OUT of another polygon cut, which puts material BACK into the part.
