True. Also, in the context of Rock and Roll in the 1970's, the Confederate Battle Flag had no racist connotation. During that period, it had been co-opted by the counterculture as a symbol of rebellion against the Establishment.
It might not be racist to YOU as a white person but it does represent that for black people. Jeez how freaking selfish can you be since it wasn’t white people that took the brunt of that so-called “heritage”.
The South is in my blood , Heritage not Hate ! I relate to your love for pure talent and lyrics . You can't pick one any better than Skynyrd . Keep em rolling . Thanks for your open minded candid comments about how we southerners see things . It was very refreshing for a change .
I remember buying lynyrd skynyrd 45rpm records with money I made cutting grass as a young teen back in the 70's . It was a different time and the "outlaw country" was growing in Nashville. MCA records started up a label named "sounds of the south" . Skynyrd was signed and the flag was part of what the label had them use for the brand. Lynyrd Skynyrd was a band for the common man. The music, the lyrics, the style was relateable and Ronnie was a genius at expressing what we all could understand. meaning
Texan 100% I been lovin Skynyrd since I was old enough to put a record on the turn table. Been a rebel my entire life I fly the Rebel flag ain't got a bullshit racist bone in my body I respect everybody and would help out any body in need . This is the southern way. Ronnie van zant was the same way.
Love Lynyrd Skynyrd! I'm went to a concerts 💯💮❗❗❗ after the plane crashed which took Ronnie, Stevie and Cassie. 1020 1977 was the end of Skynyrd as we know it. They started the band with appeal the original members. The new Skynyrd does not have Ronnie Allen Leon Collins or Powell. Always listens to Skynyrd songs, before the crash date. The Skynyrd now has one last number, Gary rossington. The guy that wrote that smells about. Ain't Life something else, I love their music, their vibe, and that they made it as high as they did. That's one song that you will, from now on, catch yourself singin' or hummin', just about anytime you are in a good mood and gettin' things done, cuttin' grass, workin' in the garage, drivin', whatever. I've been catching myself doing it since I first heard the song back when the Second Helping album first came out. My grandkids think I'm nuts sometimes because of it. That's cool. We have fun.
Dude, you really get it as it's all about the music. And the best way to discover music is to listen to as many varieties that you can find and appreciate what each song writer/band is trying to convey to us thru songs. Music is the great unifier of all humans!
Your reaction at 8:28-8:36- Haha. I couldn't help but think of Cab Calloway in the movie The Blues Brothers. Lol. In the scene at the concert where they're performing either Everybody Needs Somebody or Sweet Home Chicago, Calloway is on the side of the stage with his arms in the air and his sunglasses on and a big smile on his face from ear to ear, really into the music. That's what it reminded me of. Lol.
I'm also from the great state of Georgia. The flag represents to me the heritage of my ancestors who fought for the politic as in we are having today. I'm not prejudice. Nor am I racist. My family never owned slaves. We poor as hell. Too much is labeled. I'm a Christian and I love everyone. When we get to heaven the Lord is not going to call you by your skin color . He's simply going to say come here my child.
Really good documentary on Netflix if you’re interested. “If I leave here tomorrow”. They mentioned the flag and how most of it was the label pushing it almost as a gimmick. 🤷🏻♂️ really cool movie though. Love Skynyrd and love people being, and myself being, introduced to new music outside the realm of what we are accustomed to.

Lynyrd Skynyrd were crazy drinking, crazy rebels so the flag per Ronnie VanZant I'm a drinking crazy rebel and I don't care what anyone thinks of me, these are words from the band. Like I said at the age of 4 music has always meant alot to me so when I like a song or a band I watch interviews and the meaning of songs so I can know everything about them, people always ask me how I remember everything about as far as the 60s and I always say when I learn things about music is sticks in my head like super glue but I can't tell you what I had for breakfast. Love your reactions
I’m age 65 , done a little hobo’ing in my younger days. Catching a freight train, riding in a empty box car, sometimes you would run up on somebody doing the same thing. It gave you someone to talk to, swap stories about your life with. And with another person, more eyes to look out for the railroad agents. You rode the train to as close to your destination as possible. Anyway the verse in call me the breeze that goes, I got that green light babe, I got to keep moving on, there not talking about a traffic light. When this song first came out only people like myself and others that had been around trains knew the meaning of it. Back in the day the southern east coast railroad operated trains all through the south, on the side of the boxcars in big letters it had a slogan that read “SOUTHERN RAILROAD GIVES A GREEN LIGHT TO Innovation’ So when you told someone in your circle you were catching the green light they knew what you meant. A lot of songs about trains, and having the blues, I can relate and I loved those guys for it
Indeed! My favorite ABB's song (today anyway) Both LS and ABB were influenced by the Southern culture in which they were raised. White man's country, black man's blues and both gospels.
You the Man BizMatik! Thank you for reacting to Lynyrd Skynyrd. 'Skynyrd was inspired by a lot of the musicians who recorded at Muscle Shoals Studio, that includes the Black R&B/Soul artists. Btw, gotta love the piano solo by Billy Powell. 😊✌
Several Skynyrd songs were recorded at Muscle Shoals and with the Swampers playing. The late Jimmy Johnson, Stampers guitarist has talked about it. Of course EVERYBODY recorded there at one time or another it seems like. Seger, Paul Simon, Aretha, Sledge, Stones, Leon Russell and on and on.
Sir u absolutely cannot miss out on the song Gimme 3 Steps. One of the great story songs in that "every man" genre you appreciate so much. Skynnyrd is a deep well, and the deeper u go, the more u love them
Interesting note, Ronnie Van Zant didn't write the lyrics down when he wrote a song. He said that if he couldn't remember the words, then it couldn't be a good song. How cool is that? Lynryd Skynyrd was a great southern rock band. And I love this song. Check out Gimme Three Steps, and Saturday Night Special, too.
Actually he said if it wasn't worth remembering it wasn't worth singing. "There is no such thing as southern rock. That's like saying rock rock. It's all rock and it was born in the south." Dwayne Almon said that in an interview.
Already enjoyed your reactions and now I have more respect because you get it.Skynyrd has so many great songs! It would be cool if you to do The Needle and Spoon,Searching, On The Hunt, and Mississippi Kid! Thanks for your videos
Just happened to catch your video. Second Helping was the soundtrack to my high school days. I always wanted a vanity license tag that says TH Breeze for my car. There are 2'original members still alive - Artemis Pyle and Gary Rossington. These boys were proud to be from the South. It didn't have anything to do race or hate or division.
"Needle and the spoon" and "give me three steps", note the current social commentary that were concerns for everyone in the 70's.. Skynard recognized their musical roots were from the delta blues.
You are so right about that flag-some people see it as a love for the southern lifestyle, some about hate. Can't speak anything good about people that wanna hate. I dig that you are giving this stuff a listen, and that's what is real. We all need to listen to other than what we are told to hear. A good response to the whole flag thing. Living in Georgia, I suspect you are better aware of what it does and does not represent to different people than most...not all who fly it are racist, but some who do are extremely racist, sad to say. Anyway, total respect for your opening comments regarding it...now...ON TO THE MUSIC!!! P.S. Lynyrd Skynyrd is GOOD-TIME, PARTY music. Another band that is good-time party music is the early version of The Doobie Brothers...before Michael MacDonald joined them...songs like, "Listen to the Music," "Rockin' Down the Highway," or "Long Train Running," are great party songs.

I'm 55 years old. I grew up in the same small town they used to practice playing there music. One of the album overs is in our little town. I'm happy to see others enjoying it too.
I saw these guys do this song in May 1976 and just to bring you up to 1970s speed, this is what they used to call a "performance song." Performance songs were meant mainly for the stage and couldn't be captured well in the studio environment, hence they rarely got any radio time. Don't know if it was because the band fed off the energy of the audience and sounded better or what, but performance songs just did better live. Even though "Call Me The Breeze" was captured well in the studio, it was mainly composed to show off the musicianship of the triple-attack guitars, showcase Alan Collins incendiary guitar solo & Billy Powell's piano work. So... you REALLY had to hear this performed live and feel your spleen rattling to the vibes to truly enjoy this tune. Nevertheless, the studio track sounds pretty great.

Great tune great band. I will speak on it as an outsider. As a white man from Canada i have no emotional ties too the flag. Its represents different things for different people as i understand. As a symbol of hate if you continue too let it offend you it keeps its power. If you dismiss it as a symbol of hate it loses it power. I am not saying forget your opinion on it that you cant do. What i am saying is show you dont care about it as a symbol and its irrelevant. Cant change history but you can move on or away from it. Just dont forget. Personally i see some thing that offends me i shake my head and keep moving. Dont give it any more thought. Easy for me too say since i dont live in the south and have not suffered at the hands of the symbol that represents hate for some. Pay it no attention it goes away in my opinion. Peace and love from Ottawa Canada
Ronnie Van Zant once addressed the use of the Confederate Flag and he said it was a symbol of their (the bands) Southern heritage and not hate. While they never got involved in politics they were very progressive and liberal in their beliefs. They supported the Civil Rights movement and integration of the schools and equal rights. They even dissed Alabama Governor George Wallace in their song Sweet Home Alabama over his anti-integration policies for the Alabama school and university systems as well had talked out against him and his policies on integration at times. (from the song Sweet Home Alabama: "In Birmingham, they love the Governor, Boo, Boo, Boo, we did all we could do." Ronnie Van Zant explained the line -"A lot of people believed in segregation and all that. We didn't. We put the 'boo, boo, boo' there saying, 'We don't like Wallace," we did all we could do was a reference to the people who voted against Wallace and that the band did a few fundraising concerts to raise money for the person running against Wallace.) They even dissed President Nixon lol In 2012 I think it was the band (now lead by Ronnie Van Zant's younger brother Steve Van Zant since they reformed the band after the plane crash that killed Ronnie) stopped using the confederate flag due to its use as a hate symbol by white supremacist groups and stated that was never their intention on its use.

But Skynyrd Made A Better Beat To It
And One Hell Of a piano solo to it
They have a song, Georgia Peaches, which refers to those fine Georgia ladies.
Love them Georgia Peaches!
My favorite LS song of all time! ♥
I know that this was a long time ago that you dropped this, but I gotta say..... this song just makes me want to fucking Dance!!! ❤️❤️✌️
About the Flag......Heritage not Hate....that's all it is
FACTS brother!!!!
@@lindalawson7600 Says the white girl!

The music, the lyrics, the style was relateable and Ronnie was a genius at expressing what we all could understand. meaning
My hat's off to you bismatic. you see the music for what it is instead of what the preconceived notions are because of a flag.
Thank you for your comments about the flag. I appreciate your open-mindedness in recognizing it means different things to different people.
Another southern rock band called Blackfoot- Train Train... you won't be disappointed
No one...no one like Skynyrd!!! They were well on their way to Superstardom when tragedy struck....but super stars they will always be to me
Texan 100% I been lovin Skynyrd since I was old enough to put a record on the turn table.
America's answer to The Rolling Stones. Kinder, more insightful, and unique then any other southern rock group. ....💃✌💪😂😍🚬🎹🎼
"Call me the Breeze" was written by the late, great, J.J. Cale..... he also wrote the great song,
"Cocaine" which is recorded also, by Eric Clapton......J.J. Cale has written so, so many wonderful songs, dozens and dozens..... You might Check him out sometime....if not on here, then on the side...J.J. Cale
Just think you’re listening to half a century old music and it’s still rockin people
REALLY glad you did this song,,,,,,it's just FANTASTIC,,,,isn't it !?!?!? 🔥🔥🔥👍😎
Music is NOT racist,,,,👍👍👍
Bad ass song right there!! Now check out ‘Don’t Ask Me No Questions’ or ‘The Needle And The Spoon’.
Lol.
This is my favorite song by them, they don't get much better than this!
I was dig in this way down in the swamps of fla, way back when. ,
I'm still listening to it. In 2021,
Southern born southern bread,,
And I'm just breezimg on by,,,, down the road,,,
I knew you were going to love that line about them Georgia peaches😂 subscribed
I like the swing, too, and the horns. Was always one of my faves after a few drinks.
the line that just says it all "i ain't hidin' from nobody, nobody's hiding from me..ah that's the way it's supposed to be"
my grandparents were in Virginia considered the south of course.
Grandma sweet as could be, all those southern expressions.
She was raised not knowing or believing black peoples were equal.
I straight up asked her one time, she could not answer.
That junk didn’t rub off on me.
I had thought once that generation died off, racism would end, but no.
Government is happy to keep it current & alive with operation CHAOS
Lynyrd Skynyrd was truly one of the greatest American rock bands. I think you would enjoy “Mr Banker” and “Was I right or wrong.”
You are absolutely right. One of the greatest American rock bands of all time. I feel blessed to have the original band in concert.
Was I right or wrong is such an amazing song and I feel like NOBODY knows about it!
Was I right or wrong one of my all-time favorites
@@gibsonrocks13579 I know all about it one of my favorite songs of all time so eerie and haunting but relatable to the whole I'm going to go away from here and show you all I am worth something I will be someone someday and then you get back and everyone's dead..
Makes you want to go back into the garage and kick start the Harley
The Flag repersents sweet tea, respecting yer momma, holding hands with a sweet belle, moonshine on Friday, and repenting on Sunday. It's a southern thing!
Thank you , why don’t we just all love each other , I’m from Tennessee and I grew up listening to them, you know I didn’t realize that some people use the flag for hate , I just thought it was a southern thing , wish we could all just get on with life and care for each other ❤️
Grew up in the 60's and Skynyrd has been my favorite for a long time. Give swamp music a listen, it's a real good jam.
This is one of my favorite Skynyrd songs.
Love this band, was lucky enough to see them live, put the flag aside,if they don't put you in good mood 😉,your dead...
Back in the day the southern east coast railroad operated trains all through the south, on the side of the boxcars in big letters it had a slogan that read
“SOUTHERN RAILROAD GIVES A GREEN LIGHT TO Innovation’
So when you told someone in your circle you were catching the green light they knew what you meant.
A lot of songs about trains, and having the blues, I can relate and I loved those guys for it
Well said man if more ppl looked at it like u the world would be better place. U got to judge ppl off how they interact with u
That piano solo just ratchets up from no where. Love it!
Play it BP
I sure would like you to have some Allman Brothers “Soulshine” in your library of music. 🙏🏽
That’s a good one.
EXCELLENT SUGGESTION‼🔥
Give me a T for Texas,t for Tennessee,is another classic.

👍👍👍😎
😊✌
Thankd fam
Which also included Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin
Muscle Soals didn't have color
Several Skynyrd songs were recorded at Muscle Shoals and with the Swampers playing. The late Jimmy Johnson, Stampers guitarist has talked about it. Of course EVERYBODY recorded there at one time or another it seems like. Seger, Paul Simon, Aretha, Sledge, Stones, Leon Russell and on and on.

Excellent commentary.👍🏻
Sir u absolutely cannot miss out on the song Gimme 3 Steps. One of the great story songs in that "every man" genre you appreciate so much. Skynnyrd is a deep well, and the deeper u go, the more u love them
Thanks for your open mind ! And you’re right . To most it’s “heritage not hate”. GOD bless. 🙏🏻✝️.
JJ Cale wrote this song.
Actually he said if it wasn't worth remembering it wasn't worth singing. "There is no such thing as southern rock. That's like saying rock rock. It's all rock and it was born in the south." Dwayne Almon said that in an interview.
@@jasonsellers9595 thanks. I love Duane Allman. My favorite guitarist to this day.

Already enjoyed your reactions and now I have more respect because you get it.Skynyrd has so many great songs! It would be cool if you to do The Needle and Spoon,Searching, On The Hunt, and Mississippi Kid! Thanks for your videos
how can you be in a bad mood and hear this song...even in the worst mood by the end i will be bopping along with the beat
Next time you see someone with that flag flying, introduce yourself. I bet you will meet a lifetime friend that will have your back in any battle.
Try listening to one another, and maybe we can learn some peace and tolerance. Grew up in Motown, listening to Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and Ted Nugent and Bob Seger...been living in the south (right below you in Ocala FL)
for decades now, and I love me some southern rock! JUST SUBSCRIBED!!!Hey Biz-try some fellow Georgians....BLACKBERRY SMOKE!!!!
One of the best driving songs ever recorded! They have dropped the Confederate flag from their identity! Peace and love to all children of God! Greetings from New Orleans!
Yep. This song makes me smile everytime too. My favorite LS song.
When I was long haul trucking this is #2 song on my 2 am play list. Radar love was #1. Also my cb handle was The Breeze.4-4 Roger looking cool on the stool and neat in the seat of my big grey pete. Walking the dog and kicking the cat big truck driving is where it's at. MEMORIES
Thank you for appreciating the strength of the music and the powerful lyrics by the late Ronnie Van Zant of the Lynyard Skynyard band. Their music is some if the best ever assembled. Thank you for understanding that.
I love to see you havin so much fun!!!! This song kicks ass!

BizMatik, you're one cool dude, man!
I freakin love this channel!
He’s the best.
Nevertheless, the studio track sounds pretty great.
great pick from Skynyrd, they amongst many other southern Rock bands have been rocking my world for years.
imagine if you can my old ass walking around everyday with a soundtrack like this fine tune playing on a loop that'll be there till i'm on the wrong side of the dirt!

Feel good party music when I was youngster. Lynyrd Skynyrd's music will live forever because it's that good. TIMELESS
