    This is a far better monitor than the shinobi ii. Great video though. I have had so many issues with Atomos products I just can’t go back to them haha.

    I like the wireless match with the LH5p monitor and the Sony Fx30 I can do all my setting on the monitor and its small to travel while still bright enough to see in the sun once more the tools for exposure are great and the power options plus the strong build. Its still rocking fa me in 2025.

      Heck yeah! Having gear you know you don't want to replace anytime soon is the best. I think I definitely would have stuck with the LH5P II if I didn't already own the LH7P. Both of those monitors are so similar it only makes sense for me to keep one of them.

    I usually run my FX3 on a DJI Ronin RS3 Pro with the USB-C port dedicated to connecting to the gimbal. In this case I wouldn't be able to connect the monitor (like Shinobi II) to the camera to get the benefits of touch to focus etc.
    I'm already used to not having that functionality with the Small HD 702 Bright I've been using with the FX3/Ronin combo, but in the market for a smaller monitor and can't yet decide between the Shinobi II vs the Portkeys LH5P II.
    The only thing I'd likely be making use of in terms of camera control on the monitor would be touch to focus. I should also add I'm frequently power cycling my whole setup as usually shooting for longer times.

    • @RossBarnett02
      @RossBarnett02  2 месяца назад +1

      @@mOo84 Looks like the LH5PII might be the best choice based on your setup & needs (touch to focus + wireless connection).
      I’m interested if the FX3 can do both (camera control via USB-C to the Ronin PLUS camera control via wifi to the LH5PII). For some reason, I don’t think the camera will allow both connections. I might be wrong with that one though. I can try and test this with my own setup.

    • @mOo84
      @mOo84 2 месяца назад +1

      @@RossBarnett02 That would be interesting because camera control via the Ronin is much more important to me than touch focus on the monitor. I don’t think I’d find a real need to use any of the on-monitor camera controls - it’d literally just be the ability to use touch to focus.

    • @mOo84
      @mOo84 2 месяца назад +1

      @@RossBarnett02 And TBH, the touch to focus isn’t all THAT critical based on how I shoot - just a useful tool to have in some instances. Probably more concerned with overall quality / UI / weight & dimensions of the monitor.

    Hello Ross, I have to slide into your comments again 😄 Currently you are the only one comparing the Shinobi II with the LH5P II. Is it really that bad to establish a connection to the camera's WiFi connection? It should take a few seconds at most, right? Using one less cable would be a benefit in principle, I thought 😄

    • @RossBarnett02
      @RossBarnett02  3 месяца назад +1

      @@Marvnz It’s not bad. And, even the fact I’m complaining about it is a little silly. However, with the way I typically shoot all day events, continuously connecting the monitor every time I start up the camera gets annoying. Plus, I’ve had a few weddings with full bands where the wireless connection isn’t stable due to so much wireless in the room. It’s little things like that that drive me to the shinobi II.

    • @RossBarnett02
      @RossBarnett02  3 месяца назад

      That would be a good comparison - using your phone as a monitor is definitely convenient. The only thing holding me back from utilizing the SeeMo or even Ninja Phone is just how much I use my phone when working. I'm always using it for notes, taking calls, texting other videographers - IDK if I could commit to having my phone as a dedicated monitor all the time.

    I am just simply confused I have researched everywhere and it seems like nobody wants to review a field monitor or external viewfinder if you will but basically I want an external monitor such as this mounted on the top of my camera where the hot shoe is.. I have a Sony a74 and all I want to use it for is simply so I have a bigger screen to look at while taking a photo or reviewing the photos. I would like to be able to control the ISO and aperture and what not I don't need a million controls I just want to control the main settings. I don't want to have any lag I would just like for it to display what is currently being shot and I only do photography I don't do videos. So I don't need a recorder. If it comes with it fine but I don't necessarily need it. I would like to screen to be bright as I do a lot of photography in the day and in the sun

      The Atomos Shinobi II will be your best option. With the recent software update - they've added photo controls to the monitor so you can see all your settings + physically take a photo from the monitor screen. The Tap to Focus is somewhat limiting in my opinion, but it's there. Check out my latest videos on the Shinobi II!

      @RossBarnett02  3 месяца назад +1

      Honestly it's a tough call. Spec wise - the LH5P II is better. User experience wise, I prefer the UI and camera control of the Shinobi II.. Honestly the only reason i'd recommend the LH5P II over Shinobi II is if you need loop HDMI out often, or would need wireless camera control (say, for controlling a camera on a car rig). But, my everyday use case for this monitor is handheld on a camera rig, so the Shinobi II wins mainly off of user experience and not needing the HDMI out. But still, tough call.

    You are so wrong about the shinobi 2 I purchased it. It gets hot very quickly. The touch screen response is very slow. You made a bad review. I'm recommending the snowbie too. I. Returned it based on it, overheating quickly.

      @@588ta I’ve heard a lot about the monitor getting hot, but that only matters if you’re holding the monitor. Not sure of an application where an on camera monitor being hot matters. Heat doesn’t affect the performance, especially when mounted to a camera. In my opinion, the touch responsiveness is faster and more accurate than the comparable Portkeys monitors.
