    Hey Chadi what were the rules of catch wrestling back then?! Since, based on what I know, catch wrestling didn't have submission UNTIL the japanese came to the west. Although the irony is that Lancashire up and down fighting ( one of it ancestor) DID have submission. But it was removed originally from catch wrestling due to $EATH from Lancashire up and down fighting.

    I feel like a lot of guys back in the day counted sparring matches in their “win” records lol. 2000 “real” fights would take a crazy toll on anyone’s body. Saenchai has 360 Fights in 32 Years and that’s ALOOOOOOT of fights. That’s with minimal grappling and MT / kickboxing rules. 2000 fights with full on grappling, little rules and no time limit...... yyyeah......... 🧐

      To be fair Muay Thai is waaay more brutal on the body than grappling. Speaking as a guy who have stepped in to the ring and has grappled for over 20 years, give me 1000 grappling matches any day over 10 Muay Thai bouts. If you tap often, you live to fight another day. There's no tapping when the perfect knee is coming to your face. Anyway, this 2000 matches record is BS for sure.

    • @devriestown
      @devriestown 2 года назад

      Yeah but that's be because in muay thai they start out so young.
      Reason being poverty work 13 hours i the rice farm or fight where you can make more money and be famous if your good.
      Rickson Gracie was a joke .
      He said he had a record of 300-0
      Come on the Gracie's got best multiple times and covered it up.

    It was the great time for wrestling before WWII. Greatest wrestlers lived during this period. All we have today goes directly to their achievements. Especially Sweden + Finland + Russia+ Estonia for Greco and Great Britain + USA + Japan in Freestyle. They were very powerful and strong without using all these gym machines which we have today. All they had were barbells, plates, clubs, laces, dumbbells, kettlebells and stones. That is it. They were not running for many miles and no cross-fit of course.

      Agree. But some desion makers and high-caliber people in Inter Olympic Commetee don't think so. Several years ago they wanted to expell Greco from th Olympics but that did not happened. They still want to cut wrestling from the Olympics in some form. They refused to add Greco into Olympics into Youth Olympic Games, instead they push forward Beach wrestling. Fucking idiots. What if I live somewhere in land-locked area and I never saw sea and never saw beach? Beach wrestling it is just Freestyle but on the sand. They still attacking Greco: they are saying that Greco is not modern because women are not in the competition. Greco is not for women, Greco grips are dangerous for their breast. They really don't understand what they doing and really don't see the legacy behind wrestling.

      Maeda left at the turn of the century, judo was really established in Kyoto around that time, the Kyoto branch had masters like Isogai, Oda, Yaichiyohe who really crafted Ne Waza, and sophisticated it, Maeda never learned that, he had decent Ne waza but not the sophisticated one like Oda.

    He most definitely went up against catch wrestlers that is not in question and he won matches and also "lost" matches - I never thought otherwise and a *lot* of the matches he did compete in were setups, no two ways about it. And, tbh, I really don't have a problem with that you need to eat and you need money to do that. He even lost apparently at a military academy in the USA after a demonstration and the academy decided to go with Wrestling rather than Judo - now that was eye-opening.

      I think the story was that the wrestler pinned him, but Maeda, not knowing the wrestling rules, didn't know one can win by pinning. After being pinned, he put the wrestler in a joint lock and the wrestler tapped. Albeit, the wrestler probably let his guard down because he alreadly won by the pin.

    Americans and Europeans hate to see their wrestling style getting destroyed by Japanese Judo. Most of the matches won by Maeda apart from the very popular ones have been falsified or erased in history and some matches where americans won against Japanese are preserved and over celebrated in annals to assert their catch wrestling superiority. If that were the case, no one would have embraced Judo and Karate as it has been in the US.

      Ad Santel devastated the entire Kodokan, to the point where Kano banned his students from engaging in new confrontations with Santel, such was the superiority of catch over judo. Do better research, instead of just stating clichés.

    I am usually disappointed by revisionist history. I have a hard rule, you claim to revise history & then you must present irrefutable & rarefiable evidence at each claim. & I must be able to verify myself. So, I doubt much. I watch for things like ‘all the their evidence is wrong, or I can’t find it.’ then the bar is set high.
